Russell Maroon/White game

I agree, the coaches did an excellent job of dividing up the roster. I thought the O-line did a nice job on both rosters. Wills and Gullett as always were good, but some others I thought played well also. Juniors Tobey Hicks and Adam Foster looked good at Tackle and Guard respectively. Cory Hall made a nice catch and run over the middle as the TE. I think the RB's will pick up where they left off with Jones, Lewis, Beekman and Clark making for a nice tandem of runners. Throw in a few play calls for Sizemore and we shouldn't be hurting for Offensive fire power this year.

Defensively, I think Lewis proved that he can replace Horn on the one corner this year. As for the other corner, I'm sure Coach Morris will have talent to choose from to man that spot. With Sizemore and Clark roaming the secondary as well, the backfield looks pretty good. The D-line and 'backers will round into shape as well.

I think overall it was a good first scrimmage for the fans. I;m sure the next 2 against S. Valley and C.Midland will provide a good test for the guys trying to win and keep spots for the upcoming season.

I am hearing Jones might eventually be the QB.

I was told he looked really good in the scrimmage.

Thats what i was talking about the Quarterback is in the backfield too

Good from last night ....

Offense

Line 62,55 .. rest where just big .. no one really fired out ...

Ends ..66 was impressive , let's throw him the ball ...

Backs .. obvious Beekman , Clark , Sizemore at QB ... Devils have to have some balance for playoffs ...

Defense ....

Safeties .... Clark and Sizemore

Corners ... ?

Linebackers .... didn't see anyone step up .. looks to me Wills and Jones will be inside backers...

Line .... deliver a blow ... 55 and 62 again ... rest just big ...

Overall , Devils looked good ... 74 and 75 have big potential upside , hit the weights and run .... 32 ,44 ,25, 5 , 60 , the Abrams( spelling) kids and others also have big upside.

Cabell Midland is always a good measuring stick .... I remember one year they just killed us and even stopped Josh Gross cold ...

The only one of the bold that are obvious is Kasey. Jones will more than likely be the starting QB when the season starts. Other than that, the backs will be the usual merry-go-round of capable runners. Look for David Bailey to come along as the season progresses if the sophomore keeps his head on straight...:thumb:

Jones cannot replace T Brown this year. Devils cannot win state again without a passing game. So look for alot of Sizemore in each game ... Ivan isn't stupid ... No chance to beat Belfry's red army without passing. Gross couldn't do it and neither will Kasey unless he gets some balls via the pass.

Beekman is very small but a player in the wing t ...

If they go power , better bring back Timberlake and Mell ... Did see some power but backfield was very small , except Kasey...

Think what you want but I'm telling you, the Devils' starting QB is Tyler Jones...:thumb:

Also, keep in mind that what you saw Tuesday night was a split squad scrimmage. It wasn't one's versus two's...the coaches kept the teams pretty equal. What you see on Friday nights will be much different from what you saw in the Maroon/White Game...

Dont remember the pass having much to do with beating Belfry last year. I believe the pass was the key in the win over Newport.

Also remember the 2004 Belfry team was far superior to the 2005 Belfry team.

I look for this year's team to be on the level with the recent Red Devil teams. It takes talent, coaching, and the right breaks to win it all. Hopefully lightning can strike two years in a row.

OBVIOUS!

The next scrimmage will be the eye opener or the slap in the mouth. All on the same side, still dont look for everyone to be in their positions. I can see Jacob, Kasey, Nick, Josh and Tyler in the back field. Who is playing where doesnt matter, they will all touch the ball. Russell is no frills when it comes to scrimmage, like I said- they will run the 6 basic plays and the 2 pass plays they have. I know what the first play is and everyone who played at Russell knows what the first play will be, BET YA.......Just try to stop it !!!

Apparently Cubster you were not watching the game closley at all... The red devils used passing plays to help set up all of their scoring drives... 8 sprint left was the call to be exact... Brown to Horn on the little dink and dunk passes set up the touchdowns...

I don't really agree with this review but you have your opinion. Jones wasn't even playing linebacker, he was at the end. Wills played great. Seth Harvey(74) was very impressive on both sides of the ball. The line as a hole played tough and is tough. The Abrahms kid your talking about is Drew, he's going to big an impact this year with his size and ability.

Don't underestimate Tyler, he's very capable of throwing the ball. I would like to see him back running with Kasey but we need him at QB. He can do whatever Ivan ask of him, whether it be running or throwing. Just go watch a couple of practices and then tell me what you think.

Brown to Horn? You mean Brown to Clark or Brown to Sizemore? Maybe I'm losing my mind but I don't remember Micheal playing much offense last year.
