Just curious, Do BGP members even bother with the AP Polls???

 

Do they mean anything to anyone???

I don't pay to much attention to the polls. A better rank in the polls don't get you a better seed for the playoffs. They are just for entertainment, and a who's popular contest.

If there's a vote for "less than zero", that's how I vote. The AP polls for KY football and basketball are notoriously bad.

I see the polls as: nice to see your team recognized, but carry zero weight.

BGP members see more games across the state than the handful of people voting in the AP polls and many seem to have more knowledge of the game and the teams than the voters do. Too many voters go based solely on reputation. Some schools will get votes from an AP member on the opposite end of the state just because they really had some great teams back in the 70's.

 

A better question would be to ask the AP voters what influence BGP has on them...

From what I have seen over the past few years it is a joke. Popularity contest. I think on the most part these reporters do an excellent job reporting on the teams in there area week after week.

Only polls I pay attention to are the BGP polls and the Lit ratings at the end of the season.

 

The Lit ratings aren't always right, but more often than not they tend to pan out at the end of the season.

IMO, the AP polls are the worst rankings that come out (compared to BGP, LIT, Cantrall, Massey). The popularity of the coaches and the geographical location of the teams play a major role in the AP rankings, it seems.

I agree with you, although some outlets do publish the voters each week.

 

Here is an example using this weeks 3A Associated Press Poll. I am only including the top ten, and then the members who voted this week. Immediately, you have to ask, who the heck voted for Somerset as #1 after they got pasted by Pulaski County? Homer votes ruin the credibility of the whole thing. Then you notice nobody from Pulaski Co area voted, but there were 15 first place votes but only 13 voters listed. ??
