Must have had a few more come out/get acclimated after the NL scrimmage. Dressed 28 for it. Did Adair and Russell both scrimmage Garrard? Thought I'd heard that. Anyone have any thoughts that saw both?

Also, wasn't aware of the new AC coach. Quick google search came up with this article. https://adairvoice.com/stories/dukes-named-head-coach,66522. Really interesting background. Was QB for Lindsey Wilson Natty team and played in the CFL. Young guy with alot of football experience, wonder if it will translate to the coaching side.

Really curious on this one. Hearing some concerns out of RC. Numbers way down (heard they only dressed 20 something for their scrimmages), O and D line starters are mostly freshman/sophomores. North Laurel ran the ball at will on RC in their scrimmage (20-7 through 2 quarters but wasn't that close and with RC numbers would think that they will struggle in the 2nd half especially in the August heat). But they have Stringer and based on that will give the edge to RC.

And finally no longer having to play in the baseball field outfield.

If it weren't already going to be ugly, RCs numbers were already low (dressing less than 30) but now they've had some injuries to some key players the past couple weeks. May be forced to have some freshman play their first significant varsity minutes this week. Not ideal.

On the transfer peeve, yes I agree that players should be able to transfer and pick their school. But, most times, I think that transferring is counter to what HS football should be about. Personally (understanding that opinions differ), HS football is about playing with the guys you grew up with in your community and playing for the community you grew up in, whether that team is good or bad. I also think transferring just to play for a better team is counter to what I believe HS football tries to instill, I.e., that when things are tough, you don't tuck tail and run for greener pastures, you stick it out with the guys you grew up with and the community you grew up in. That's what makes men out of boys and, personally, memories of playing with/for your boys are the best memories.

FWIW, I'm still picking PC. But would disagree this is the same PC team as last year. PC lost 2 of its top 3 scorers/receivers from last year, its leading tackler and several "glue" players (I.e., not your stars like Hull, Brock, etc., but solid HS players that are critical for success). Also, I think it is pretty clear something has changed with SL. Most programs take their biggest jump in year 2 of a new coach, and think that is evident here. They went from scrapping by bad teams last year (including a loss to a bad Russell Co. team) to running clocking bad teams this year. Is that enough to close the gap with PC? Objectively, very hard to say by comparing current resumes but not a huge leap to say that it could be a competitive game.

I agree that PC should be favored. But expect it to be a competitive game with PC controlling the ground game early. I think the key will be if SL can keep its offense on the field enough early to wear down the legs of PC (and with Hines's style of offense, that isn't too far fetched). PC's numbers aren't great and has quite a few players going both ways and SL has the numbers and fewer players going both ways. If SL can keep it competitive through 3 quarters, think they have a legitimate chance to take the lead and win in the 4th quarter.

I’d be hesitant to pass too much judgement on Somerset. It’s early in the season and there isn’t a coach in the state that will pressure a teams’ secondary more than Hines. SL is probably more improved than Hines is getting credit for at this point in the season. If he were still at PC, it’d be real interesting to see how PCs seasons shakes out. Very different styles than burns, but arguably the PC faithful had the departure of Hines/welcoming of burns as the next step in the PC rebuild but I’m having my doubts that was the best path for PC

Although maybe not as much as Adair, Russell lost a lot from last year as well (QB that is now at WKU, majority of its O and D lines). Should be an interesting game where nothing, in terms of outcome, would be a shocker.

This is the most talented group at RC since 2013. Not surprising at all they are having some success

This. The only redeeming quality of bull in the ring is developing/discovering toughness without any other correlation to actually playing football. The other two happen on each and every running play during a game, don't know how you can/why you would ban those when they have such a direct crossover.

Think this one is similar to the Adair game for the Lakers, will be overmatched but I don't think they will get blown out. This isn't the RC of the past 10 years when the talent level was extremely poor and compared to that time period, this RC team has some really nice pieces. Also, if I recall, RC didn't have its QB in the Somerset game last year and he is arguably their best player. He kept several drives alive last week against the Indians on pure athleticism.

I'm picking Adair but heard from some that saw both the Indians and Lakers scrimmage Garrard and that there may not be as big of a gap between Adair and Russell as some people might think. I'm not sure of the scores of the two scrimmages. I've never read too much into scrimmages but Russell does return a lot (albeit from a team that struggled but showed some potential at times), has a fresh coach at the top, new stadium/excitement in the community. Like I said, I expect Adair to win but in a manner where the game is t not a blowout but never really in doubt.

Gotcha. Didn't think of the '83 sub-district. So looks like neither of us were right on Finley's districts/sub-districts. You with a count of four and me two. So that would put Finley and Sharp equal in terms of districts with Sharp having a few playoff wins when the playoffs were significantly watered down vs. Finley having no playoff wins in a tougher playoff format. I'd say pretty comparable. Long story short, consistent success can be achieved at Russell but it isn't the norm
