Amen. In the early 70s I was an assistant basketball coach. Remember many game days the HC(now deceased) and I would damp mop floors to make the gym and lobby look nice for fans and guests. Just thought it was part of the job.

You should have been an official running down that side of the field. It was on the school side sideline years ago and when it went off my ears were not happy lol.

He's been pretty insulated in his time in Blue Heaven. Dropping to 4A was smart. I guess all of that travel is not an issue now lol. Their schedule will really help their RPI. I honestly thought the natives would have been a little more upset about that second half performance in the semis than it seemed.

When you're ahead 17-7 at half and lose 61-24 you can blame the coaches decisions all you want, but that basically occurred because they didn't take care of the ball or make plays when they needed too. I can honestly say I never witnessed a turnaround like that.

For the 25 years I officiated the HC was always asked if all his players were properly equipped.....a yes or no question. We then asked if there was any specific player that we needed to check if there was any question about the legality of equipment. This was done at every level to protect the officials and coaches. I assume that still happens? I would say when you see those "shorts" that are supposed to be football pants you address it then during the pregame.

As an official those butt pads were part of the pregame visual inspection of players at one point.

That's a pretty darn good opening week slate.

Lex is a great guy and had some really good teams. Mustang we remember a few barn burners with those guys. Good luck coach!

Steele looks great! Chief, was he at Centre when you were "young"? He was a great man and an inspiration to so many players and coaches.

Mr. Flora came back out of retirement to be AD at Bellevue in 1975. He was a great guy. I made a good impression on him that year, my first at Bellevue. Ben and his wife loved to travel. On their trips they would go to HS games around the South. In about 1977 I found a map in my school mailbox with a route from Bellevue to Mt. Dora Florida. The attached note said they were looking for a new head coach and he felt it would be a good job for a young assistant like me. I wasn't the only person to get one of those. We all appreciated it because if he felt you could do the job you could. We also kidded each other if we got one after a tough loss. They don't make them like Ben and Irene anymore. I had the pleasure of teaching several of his grandchildren. Just fine people.

I'd think Cooper coming back from a 17-7 halftime deficit to defeat Highlands 61-24 in last season's 5A semifinals may be a landmark for both programs. 54 in a half of HS football is unbelievable against a good team like Highlands.

Unless you are kidding that breaks my heart that we need security at VBS. Sad state of affairs.As a long time coach and official I worry about all those folks' safety.

The first inning ejections of head coach Kevin Schnall and first base coach Ryan Shilling were interesting. Neither of those guys are usually like that. Will be interesting to talk to the guys when they return as I imagine there will be a get together at The Palace. The back up catcher is Bryce(?) Estep from Beechwood.

It takes a special person to come into a situation like Conner is in right now. They couldn't have found a better person to help these young men deal with the loss of their coach. I wouldn't begin to comment about wins and losses for the upcoming season.....but I know Coach Rash will ease that pain of Coach Trosper's passing. Good luck to all the Cougars!!

So in your opinion what is a step back? It's really tough to keep stacking up regional championships. Injuries, a bad draw, a bad call, or a bad bounce of the ball can make a good season look bad in a hurry. I think there will be some good teams in the Ninth. Good luck young lady!!

Really? Two Boone County teams played in the State Football Championships, A boys and girls team played in the Sweet 16, had a State Champion in bowling and cross country, a great swim program at Ryle, great golf, etc. Maybe several other districts should care a little less lol.

I would think you would find that the principal makes the final decision and apparently the superintendent was in agreement. I would also tell you that the decision was probably made after a great deal of documentation and observation. I think the principal and AD have been there since the school opened as has Mr. Sullivan.
