And you say this because.....? The school program and TOTAL athletic program seem to be pretty good. Test scores seem to be on par or better in comparison to the entire district and the athletic program had football, boys basketball, girls basketball, and several other sports do well. State champions in boys cross country and girls bowling. As I understand this was not a spur of the moment decision but was in response to previous and ongoing situations.

The best way to judge any faculty problems with the principal is to look at teacher turnover. Boys basketball is a small part of the overall school program. I would imagine there will be some good candidates for the job. Will be interesting to see if they consider a coach who is not on their teaching staff.

So the student becomes automatically eligible at their new school? I've been out of the business for a while but thought that if there is no change in residence that there were procedures involved that affected eligibility. This was always a sticking point going from public to private or vice versa. Sure glad we have someone to help all of us dinosaurs.

That district is so big with so many employees that you seldom see or deal with the superintendent. I would imagine principals handle most of the extra duty situations with the superintendent stepping in as last recourse. Apparently the superintendent must be in agreement with the principal on this matter. As I said earlier, the situation will work it's way out. I would assume Cooper would give Coach Sullivan's son a release if he wishes to play for his dad at another school district be it public or parochial. With the repeal of WPE/GPO, the diocesan retirement plan, and less impact by KDE parochial education may be an interesting option for a teacher.

Brossart has used head coaches not in the building for several seasons now.

I know a ton of coaches that would love to have that talent combination!

Call the principal. He can probably fill you in on what has been happening. I would think he might be the only person who knows.

Brossart's district has only been aligned as such recently.

Really interesting to me that a three time head college coach would choose to come to HS basketball even at a one time powerhouse like Scott County. Could he be looking at becoming an eventual assistant at a nearby Division 1 school? Surely this is a significant cut in pay.

I guess he won't be selling cars for dad for a while lol. He did a great job. He should be locked in for quite some time.

Had the opportunity to officiate a game between KSD and Eminence. Very interesting experience. When you blew a whistle they STOPPED. The pregame coach/officials conference was different, but we all got through it. Harris was a player. It was a pleasure and honor to work that game!

As an old timer it's hard to believe Newport and Holmes are at the point that they are competing with the small schools for conference championships. The current alignment seemed to work well to me but I guess it doesn't for the schools switching divisions. Interesting that Highlands is finally in 4A in football ( where they should have been during many classification periods) but are choosing to move to Division 1 in the NKAC.

I'd like to see that last possession again. The spacing was way to tight with all those big bodies. Thought they would try to get to the rim. As my wife always says, everyone got their money's worth.

That was my main point. Usually the QB is your best or one of your best athletes and capable of making plays.

Explain to me how a HS National Championship is conducted with validity. Sounds like a "made up" event to me.

When I worked in public education the Superintendent ALWAYS made the recommendation to the board of education when hiring all personnel. Principals were involved with all hires but ultimately the superintendent made the decision. I guess you worked in a different setting and I have been retired for quite some time.

I am often amazed when I see a team have third or fourth and less than 1 or the same situation goal to go and they lineup in the shotgun..... which makes it 4 1/2 yards or more. Asked a rather successful coach about it and he said teams seldom take a direct snap in practice so they wouldn't do it in a game since not many QBs are comfortable with it. Whatever floats your boat, but seems like you're giving away yardage.

And you know that how? They have worked together since the school opened correct? Unless things have changed ADs never make decisions on hiring or terminating personnel. That's usually a principal and possibly site based concil.

That's true.......but as you know there are two sides to every story. It just seems strange that whatever has occurred has taken seventeen seasons to reach this point. Apparently if Mr. Sullivan applied for the Conner job last year he was looking to move on to another school....and one in the same district to boot. The Court of Public Opinion is not always the best option.

Guru, as you are aware personnel issues are not always discussed readily with the media. During your former career you probably witnessed such situations. In due time whatever happens will happen. As I posted earlier, coaching is an EXTRA duty and Mr.Sullivan probably has other school day responsibilities which are a much bigger part of his total salary package than his coaching stipend. Seems odd that there seems to be a great deal of unrest with the success of their athletic program. Saw someone upset with the girls program.....and they are regional champions FOUR CONSECUTIVE YEARS and have had nice state tournament showings. I guess part of it is a sign of the times.

If that's the case maybe other schools need to look at that. Football, girls, and boys basketball have been rather successful this year. Had outstanding girls golfers and a state cross country champion.
