Lex Turner returns as St. Patrick coach

Featured Replies

At 73 years old, former St. Patrick boys basketball coach Lex Turner will be returning to the sidelines to lead the Saints – a position he previously held for 28 seasons from 1976-77 to 2003-04.  Turner won 365 games during his time at St. Patrick. His teams won the 10th Region All “A” Classic three times in 1995, 1999, and 2000, and two district titles in 1997 and 2000 | Full Story

Congratulations to Lex on taking on this challenge.

The Saints had many respectable seasons during his previous tenure.

Hopefully, he will be able to breath some life into the St. Patrick's basketball program and keep a few players home.

I wish him the best of luck.

They haven’t had much to work with recently, but he put several good teams on the floor.

St. Patrick has never won a 10th Region Championship.

In 2000 St. Patrick destroyed Mason County in the 39th District Tournament.  Brossart and St. Pat. faced each other in the 10th Region Semi-Finals.  The Mustangs narrowly defeated St. Patrick that night and went on to beat Mason County in the championship game.  I will always remember how devastated the St. Patrick fans were, knowing that if they had beaten Brossart, they would have assuredly won the region that year.

I was so upset for St. Pat's big guy( I remember his name) when he missed two big fts late. As you always say.....a good draw, a good call, and a good bounce of the ball. 25 years went too fast my friend!

To add to it, St. Patrick has won 4 region tournament games in history, all in the first round. Their semifinal losses have been heartbreakers, too. Five points to Paris in 1982, one point to Paris in 1985, an overtime loss to Harrison County in 1997, and the aforementioned loss to Brossart. That 1997 Harrison County team also went to the state tournament and won a first round game.

Schools as small as St. Pat don't get there much so it hurts even worse when they lose nail-biters.
