If you had a vote for MVP in 2A football, wouldn't you vote for Kris Hughes? Unbelievable season...I think he'd have to be in consideration if such an award existed. He, Carothers from OC, Fryman from Beechwood would be the front runners I'd think.

Anyone else in agreeance that it appears - regardless of if Belfry wins tonight over Letcher CC and Gunner Holbrook - that 1 (OC), 2 (LCA), and 3 (Mayfield) are locked up and the only drama tonight is the possibility of Belfy passing Beechwood and Prestonsburg maybe getting passed by Somerset if they lose to Estill and don't get any variable help (OWP & OOWP) and Somerset beats Hazard and gets variable help? BELFRY OPPONENENTS PLAYING TONIGHT - East Carter vs Raceland (win?), Central vs. Mayfield (loss?), Pikeville vs. Bracken Co. (win), Pike Country Central vs. Powell Co. (loss?), East Ridge vs. Harlan (win?), Betsy Layne vs. Leslie Co. (win maybe?), Shelby Valley vs. Harlan Co. (loss?) So if Belfry wins and gets four wins, they could potentially pass Beechwood...if they lose, do they need a 5/6 wins from the teams above to get them ahead of the Tigers?

How are second round matchups confirmed? That one still confuses me? For example: District 5-6 given the following hypothetical...who plays who in RD2? Beechwood advances with BYE (Jackson Co. WD) Bracken Co. over W. Carter Walton Verona over Morgan Co. Breathitt over St. Henry

Add Jackson County to the list..... ...and I don't blame them one bit.

@Subway5024 Prestonsburg is ranked 29th in OWP (.459) and 8th in OOWP (.537) and have only played two teams with a winning record this year - Knott Co. Central (7-2; 16th in 2A RPI) and Martin Co. (7-2; 11th in RPI). While they certainly have some dark horse potential, especially with RB Kaine Patton and QB Alex Johnson leading the way (both having tremendous seasons), have they developed enough of a passing game to put them in a position in such a game to knock off a perennial powerhouse? Last year in their RD3 loss to Somerset, they went in 11-1, but fell to the Briar Jumpers, 23-6. Part of the issue in that game - only 21 yards passing on SIX attempts. They've definitely improved in that area this year as Johnson has had some excellent games throwing the ball...but is it enough? Will be interesting to watch.

I think Beechwood fans will be paying VERY close attention to Belfry's road game vs. 3A Letcher County Central. Letcher is 5-3 overall and 13th in the 3A RPI currently. If Belfry wins that, I think they stay higher than Beechwood in the RPI. If they lose, I think Beechwood passes them and finished #3. I believe Belfry wins that game, so you'd end with #1 Owensboro Catholic, #2 Mayfield, #3 Belfry, and #4 Beechwood. So week 4 - #4 Beechwood at #1 Owensboro Catholic #3 Belfry takes the 426 mile journey to face #2 Mayfield. (yikes) Tell me where my logic trail is wrong here....

By this logic, you're assuming that EVERY state power in 3A through 6A is banging down the door to play Beechwood? Surely you see the issue there, correct? The tired narrative that Beechwood would dodge or shy away from playing anyone is...well...faulty to say the least.

Agree 100% Was stunned when I was debating this issue with a friend yesterday ... I asked him if he felt his team's ace - who he felt got snubbed - was better than McLean?
