  1. I wonder how many parish representatives have reached out to the family to offer a SPEEDY membership? Maybe a line forming this am on the family propery of nuns, priests, altar boys, uniformed school children, all bearing paperwork, merch, and rosaries for everyone?
  2. This discussion always reminds me of NFL experts/officiating gurus all struggling to define what a catch is.
  3. Schlarman was on that squad as well. He was RIDICULOUS good as you well know. But, as the DT for the Colonels that drew that assignment that day, I can tell you he was the best I ever went up against and it wasn't close.
  4. I'm gonna slide this in because I feel like - although one round outside of the rules - it is the greatest team to come up short in the last 30-35 years. 1992 Covington Catholic (12-1) - defeated in 3rd Round by Highlands, 14-7, on a muddy field after a night of storms drenched Wooten Field. A stunning upset by the Tom Duffy-led Bluebirds led by the great John Schlarman, Corey Scarlato, and Adam Crawford. CovCath defeated the Birds, 42-21, at Highlands during the regular season, had just completed a 10-0 regular season, and breezed through the first two rounds of the playoffs. KHSAA officials, media/pundits, etc all believed the Colonels were such locks to make the state finals, they actually pre-published state programs with QB Adam McCormack's picture on the cover. That Colonels team - that has been talked about often on here - included senior standouts McCormack, Chad Cogswell, Jude Hoffman, and Mike Hild. Youngsters adding to the impressive team were guys like Rick Woolf, Matt Rabe, Mitchell Jobe, Pete Wehrman, and steamrolling linemen Ben Belbot and Andy Halloran. To this day, I still can't believe that game went the way it did. I was on the field and still think about that game often.
  5. Reading all of this back and forth, my biggest takeaway is what a shame it is that we're in an era where training/recruiting/making parents believe their kids are D1 future stars has become such a lucrative hustle/con-game and that some of these clowns who have mastered the "art" are allowed to continue to actually be a part of coaching staffs in the area. I look back on guys like Lynn Ray, Dale Mueller, Owen Hauck and then look at the current guys that are setting the standard (Rash, Eviston, Niederman, etc) and wonder why anyone would allow that nonsense to infiltrate their coaching staffs? Are these guys that choose to duke it out on social media worth it? How much is filling a coaching spot worth?
  6. I wonder what all of the athletes that train with him and those that he coaches/takes to flag football tournaments are thinking about this?
  7. I guess that could explain the odd number of Brinks trucks moving up and down Dixie the last two weeks. Makes sense.
  8. Why go with grass? Interesting. Sounds like numbers are down all over from what I'm hearing/seeing. Doesn't surprise me, but sad to see.
  9. Wait. What? You know something!?!? Tell us NOWWOWOOWOWOWWO.... Also, I did see a masked rider on a steer traversing Dixie Hwy around Teasdale Fenton at 8 am this morning. Looked very serious and was carrying a red scroll. Could mean something...
  10. Man, what a great picture!!! I miss Jerry's. Few things were more exciting as a kid than late night dinners with Dad at Jerry's. Also, that house on the corner of Kyles and Dixie where Frisch's is now....that looks massive...anyone know what that is?
  11. Congrats to Newport on the win and Lloyd on a fantastic season. Hope we can all focus on the positives today and reflecting on the season for both team’s.
  12. Two things can both be true: * Officials are in dire need of a pay rate that should reflect the work they do and risks/abuse they take. * There is a problem within the officials ranks in the area of protecting of each other being more valued than enforcing quality/accountability. At times, it's very similar to the way sometimes we read about rogue cops being protected because of the thin blue line.
  13. This x10000000. I can speak from experience, I was involved with a youth organization that had more money than they should have had and hated giving up even a nickle more than they needed to. It was - and still is I'm sure - ridiculous how they behaved fiscally. I don't want to hear ANYONE bemoan that its not possible to double the officials' pay.
  14. Waffle or sugar cone? That will tell us a great deal...
  15. Just saw two Brinks trucks flying down Dixie Hwy with a police escort! Wonder if that means anything? 😮
  16. Boy's 9th Region First Round - Beechwood vs Newport (mixlr.com)
  17. It really is shocking to see that - unless I'm missing one - all of the Bulldogs' athletic team, except for football (which is, at best, mediocre) - have severely cratered in the last few years. Baseball - Since 2015 (7 seasons) - 57-146 Best season of those 7 - 2017 (12-17) Fast Pitch Softball - Since 2015 (7 seasons) - 40-111 Best season of those 7 - 2017 (9-9) Girls Basketball - Since 2015 (8 seasons) - 113-117 Best season of those 8 - 2016-17 (29-6 - advances to Sweet 16 Semis) Boys Basketball - Since 2015 (8 seasons) - 75-136 Best season of those 8 - 2015-16 (13-12 - last winning season) Volleyball - Since 2015 (8 seasons) - 38-165 Best season of those 8 - 2021 (11-22 - only season of 8 with 10+ wins) Boys Soccer - Since 2015 (8 season) - 39-91-8 Best season of those 8 - 2016 (11-6-2 - last winning season) Football - Since 2015 (8 seasons) - 43-44 Best season of those 8 - 2019 (8-4 - only year in last 8 they won a playoff game)
  18. Taps being heard on Amsterdam! Plumes of smoke…nothing on that yet!!!!
  19. Just saw a flare go up…not sure if it was from Park Hills or Ft. Mitchell. Also, a faint note of taps can be heard as well. Oh the suspense!!! 😂
  20. Jacob Meyer Last 12 Games: 41.2 PPG (46.5 in last six games , including 58 vs. RPI #58 Walton-Verona) Seven of those games again RPI Top-75 -- 3 vs. RPI Top-17 Six of those 12 games - 40+ points In terms of just dominant stretches by a NKY athlete in any sport, are we in the midst of the greatest hot streak this area has seen?
  21. My guess is based on your pushing this is you have more of a personal tie to the coach mentioned much more than Conch is - in any way (which I don't think he is at all btw) - taking a shot. Put simply, the mentioned coach - regardless of his qualifications, which are most definitely there, but with lesser programs and for short periods of time - would be dwarfed by the accomplishments/status/clout of other coaches that would apply or be sought out by the Beechwood team in charge of this search. To keep it simpler - big difference between up and coming and accomplished/long term success. Also, Nick Saban vs. Doug Belk or Mike Houston. Who would you hire if you were Florida's AD? Do you know who Belk or Houtston are...probably not without googling. Both those guys are OUTSTANDING up and comers in the NCAA, but no one with knowledge would argue they'd have a shot at an elite program's head coaching job if bangers like Saban or other big well known successful names keep calling. Conch wasn't taking a shot, because he knows the mentioned coach is a REALLY good coach, just not in the same ballpark as those that will be in the running.
