Sorry I cut the 7th grade off

Cov Cath also has teams in the Cincy GCYL (Moeller, Elder feeder schools)

8th Grade 3-0

6th Grade White 2-1   6th Grade Blue- 1-2

5th Grade White- 0-3  5th Grade Blue- 2-1

I'd like to make it to one of the 8th grades home games as I heard they have a 6'2 reciever, a QB that can sling it and a bunch of big thick boys ready to block.

I believe the 7th grade NKMSAA tournament starts 10/17.  Beechwood vs Highlands and Twenhofel vs St Henry.  Two winners advance to play on 10/26.

32 to 16 final Twenhofel won.

Finals are set for 7p, at Scott, on 10/26:  Beechwood vs Twenfohel.  These two played the first week of the season during the week of 8/21   Beechwood won that game 24-7.  I am sure much has changed for both teams as the season has went on, so this should be a great finals.  I believe there is a full day of action planned at Scott with other middle school championship games at noon, 2p, and 5p.

Beechwood beat Highlands 6 to 0.

Beechwood scored on the first possession of the game. Highlands had a chance at 1st and goal with about 30 seconds left in the 2nd Quarter and could not get it in the endzone. Highlands beat Beechwood the week before so this was a great comeback win for the Tigers. Highlands coaches and fans were pretty incensed afterwards.

Both teams played hard and kept it clean. It's great to see young men play their hearts out.

GCL is big boy football.   Can you explain how Cov Cath breaks down their middle school teams?   It seems like they have several teams going across multiple leagues for the 6th through 8th grade group.  This has to be great for the kids to get reps and improve with meaningful game minutes and not just practice.

I'll take a stab at explaining this.  I'm four years removed from the CYF program as well as my kids didn't start CYF until the 8th grade, so somethings may have changed since then or "old man memory" might sometimes distort reality.

The 6th grade team plays in the GCYL, the 7th grade team plays in the Northern KY league and the 8th grade team plays in the GCYL league.  I never got a great answer why they leave the GCYL for a year then come back the following but I'm sure there is reasoning for that.  In addition to those three teams, if they have an abundance of players at those grade levels, they may combine two grades (6-7 or 7-8) that have kids that might not get as many reps for what I would call unofficial but official games. I don't think this happens every year, but I have seen it a couple of times.   The games don't necessarily count towards an official record, but they are real games with officials and scoreboards.  The kids practiced with their respective grade level teams and the schedule was rather hit or miss as to when or who the competition was.   As a parent of a kid who played on one of these "combo teams" I really appreciated the effort the coaches made in getting a few extra games for kids who needed a little extra development because they didn't see the field as much in the regular games.
