He did not dress so it woulld have been hard to play him. :lol: The Greenup County game was not going to affect the post season so why risk further injury to the QB? This is the week that matters most. The center is ok just not able to play. Not sure the specific injury but has had shoulder problems all year.

The center was not hurt in a car accident. Cox was involved in an auto accident but had no bearing on playing last Friday night. It was game related. Neal Pawsat played very solid against Greenup last Friday. As a freshman his future is VERY bright.

I like Putnam Stadium at Ashland. Man you can just feel the ghost of the past in that place. The Hank at Russell has the most college like atmosphere of any high school stadium I have been to. Johnson Central has a tremendous atmosphere as far as the crowd and everything about it. Course this was before the field was changed but it was more about everything but the field for me.

I love what Coach Buchanan has done with the program at Mason County. And let's face it Coach McGlone is a legend. I just don't see this game being a blow out either way and probably decided by a touchdown or less. But as Dennis Miller used to say "That's my opnion, but I could be wrong."

I thought and even said that this was a trap game. Mason was looking ahead to Russell and with Bourbon's past history were taken lightly. But remember, an ugly win beats a pretty loss.

I received this email today from a coach and found it very interesting for many reasons. I like the proposals and really like the way the coaches around the state are working together. What does everyone else think of these propsals? Thru the football and basketball coaches committees, which are established by the KHSAA, a group of coaches both football and basketball have worked together to make the included proposals at the Oct. 19th Delegate Assembly Meeting. The single biggest three issues that relate to football are: 1. Schools will now be able to do passing league tournaments and work with other schools from July 10 to July 31 2. Schools will still have the option of an open date in their schedule when the finals move back to the 1st weekend in December in 2009. 3. No kids will be allowed to participate in school vs. school basketball activities during the month of July. The following coaches have already expressed a strong desire to see this passed and have agreed to sign the email below. I will agree with you on the first one, that should have never been taken off the board. The second one was bad on so many accounts. First the play went out of bounds and should have ended the half. Second even if Campell County does get the ball there is no way there should have been 6 seconds on the clock. Mason snapped the ball with 8 seconds and ran a pass play that resulted in a completion in 2 seconds? Very inconsistent with the pass interference calls also. Mason was wistled with one that could have gone either way. On the flip side Brooks for Mason was almost undressed and there was no call. With all that being said, did any of this determine the outcome of the game? NOT even close. The Camels played physical football and Mason did not react well to it at all. They were very passive. The better team Friday night won hands down.

So Russell will come to play no matter who is on their schedule. Now as far as contenders in 3A I can't argue against any of the teams mentioned so far. In the east I think it will depend on who stays healthy from here on out. And don't be fooled. In a state championship season you have to have a little bit of luck somewhere down the line too.

You are correct. Score was 15-7 at one point, then Mason turned it up a notch. Mason led 42-7 at half. The Royals returned the kickoff to start the second half back for a TD, then on Lewis' first series the Royals returned an interception back for a TD. Mason did not look very sharp tonight. If Coach Combs can get the numbers up at Lewis, I think they could turn the corner as he has a nice system but just need the tools to run it.

Mason looked REALLY good at times last night. Going to have to take care of the mental mistakes tho. The botched exchange between Cox and one of the backs last night hurt. (Not assigning blame to either player there), the holding penalty that called the TD back and others. Still not sure on that chop block on defense. It was an infraction but Ashland got the penalty plus the result of the play. :creepy: Maybe one of our more knowlegeable rules folks can explain that one to me. Not griping because if the Royals learned from the mistake then it is all good. There is still a lot to work on if they want to make a deep run into the playoffs. Ashland is a skill player away from being dangerous. I was impressed by Carter at RB. He makes people miss and has nice speed. Thomas will be a monster at QB but needs to establish the passing game. McDavid is a pure athlete that is going to cause problems for other teams. The Tomcats line play is going to be a strength on both sides of the ball. Plus Coach Hart will have them ready.

It was 1987 and that one went to just one overtime. Maysville's Chris Wilburn hit an incredible shot at the end of regulation to send it to an extra period. The following year it would have been a game winner as it would have been a three. But instead it was just a two and my 'Dogs got beat in ot 69-64. It was still a great game even if Maysville did get beat.

You beat me to it. That was a great game!! Tollesboro won 110-107 in overtime. Those two just kept trading punches before the Wildcats picked up the win. 1999 wasn't bad either as Fleming County beat Mason County 72-69 in overtime also. 1984 was a prety exciting game also as Mason County hit a buzzer beater to beat Maysville 65-63. If memory serves me correct it was current Mason County coach Chris O'Hearn that hit the game winner.

I know that the Bulldogs graduated a lot from last season, but feel that Coach Messer will have this team playing hard and getting after it. Where did Justin Vitatoe decide to go to school?

I worded that wrong. I should have said No matter where Cox plays he will be a success, wether it is in football or in the classroom. And will be a sucess long after his football days are over. Just that type of young man. :thumb:

There are some D1s that are recruiting him. Not as a quarterback but as a defensive player or athlete. Yale and Harvard are interested in him for his academics. Wether he plays football at the next level or not Cox will be a success.
