  1. Sipping a few? Seriously ... whether that is a joke or not ... it sucks and this time it most certainly strikes a nerve.
  2. OP = Original Poster. Who is getting their rear handed to them? Oldercoach asked for thoughts about the QB running to the sideline to get the play from the Offensive Coordinator. I answered the question ... and apparently ... that means that ... 1. It struck a nerve with me (which is didn't) or ... 2. That Oldercoach was getting his rear handled to him/her. I am sorry ... I guess I struggle with posters who, in one breath, are talking up the QB and the records/honors that he has either earned already--or could earn in the near future ... then at the same time speak to the "archaic communication system" that obviously hasn't stopped the QB from racking up huge numbers and records. I will even go a little further ... that "archaic communication system" has probably helped the QB in question -- progress with his performance over the past 4 years. About 8 seconds of thought should have answered any question/questions about why it is done and the benefits (and how they outweigh the negatives). In conclusion ... don't confuse my long winded blowhard writing style with anger or sarcasm!
  3. Or ... all concerns addressed with actual true, intelligent first hand insight. The only thing that struck a nerve ... was your "Ouch. Nerve Struck" comment. Scroll up ... and you will see where the OP made this statement: "Anybody else have thoughts?" Answering that question is not striking a nerve ... it is ANSWERING the question posed by the OP. Nothing less ... nothing more.
  4. Yeah ... I have some thoughts .... *It hasn't hurt any other Beechwood quarterback in the past 13 years that the OC has coached. *One or Two miles? Nah ... I don't think so. Half the time .. the ball ends up on the hash nearest to the Beechwood sideline. 2 to 3 steps of a jog isn't going to hurt anyone. From there ... worst case .. hash to hash ... and that isn't all that far. *Unless you are there for every play to hear the dialogue between the OC and QB .. then .. then you are assuming facts not in evidence. *You mention Fieger only getting to play for a half in many games. Did it ever occur to you that the jog back and forth is something that BENEFITS the QB's conditioning? When a ton of games are basically over at halftime ... that jog back and forth may not help his conditioning a ton ... but it does help ... and his results certainly suggest that the jog back and forth hasn't hurt him in the slightest. And MOST IMPORTANTLY .... you start out your post congratulating Kyle on breaking the NKY TD pass record and being close to the NKY yardage record. Fieger and the OC have obviously made this "archaic communication system" work for the better part of 3 and a half years ... while breaking records doing it. From here ... and based on your comments ... it sure looks like this "archaic communication system" is working like an absolute charm.
  5. Thanks for posting those games on youtube ... it was quite a thrill showing my daughter that, at one time, I could walk without tripping over my feet! You wouldn't happen to have the 1993 Conner vs. Cov Cath playoff game would you? Either way .. thanks a ton for posting those games ... it certainly was fun reliving the "glory days"!
  6. Just curious ... why in the world would you "Hate to say it" ..... ?
  7. I hope he does ... and that is also more realistic. Not to mention ... he CAN PLAY ... which means a ton more than any 40 yard dash time. (I just can't understand why the 40 yard dash is something that is judged as "important enough to fabricate" ... if you can play ... you can play).
  8. I did my homework ... and included a link. Why don't you do your homework ... before you speak ... you have been debunked. It was a freaking hand time ... add .24 to the time ... that is what the REAL time would be. Anyone in the world who thinks that the 4.29 was legit ... needs to wake up and smell more than the coffee. That would put him tied for 6/7 on the ALL TIME NFL LIST FOR FASTEST 40 YARD DASH's .... ? The only place in the world that the 4.29 is legit is with Alice ... IN WONDERLAND.
  9. 3 different watches ... and this wasn't laser timed? The truth comes out! The standard addition for handtimed results = .24 So the truth of the matter is that 4.53 is what Baker should have been credited with. The scary thing is ... there are probably people who are voting for Mr. Football who believe this 4.29 crap. There is no way a high school athlete between his junior and senior year is running a time that would put him in the top 5 of 40 yard dashes ran by NFL players. You guys need to quit saying 4.29 (or at least qualify your remarks with "handtimed"). It makes a lot more sense now that this player doesn't have offers from higher ranked schools. 4.53 is a little more realistic and closer to reality.
  10. Good point .. but at the same time ... if people do not believe it ... then they probably shouldn't try to use it in their argument. (Not talking about you, Ram ... but others). Heck .. the kid can play ... he is fast ... good luck to him.
  11. I would buy that number ... 4.47 sounds a little more realistic. And ... as you say .. it is still smoking fast. There were 2 kids in the AAA State Track and Field Championship who posted faster 100 Meter times than Baker ... I certainly haven't seen anyone accuse those guys of running faster 40 times than Baker ... ! M 100 Meter Dash - Finals Place Overall Athlete Class Team Result Heat Wind 1 1 Hayes, Austin 12 South Laurel 10.76 3 -0.7 2 2 Allen, William 11 Paul Dunbar 10.77 3 -0.7 http://ky.milesplit.com/meets/188567/results/379876 For the rest of you ... do yourself a favor and study up on speed and numbers. And one more quick lesson ... everything you read and see ... whether it is from a camp, a newspaper or a piece of Charmin ... doesn't mean it is credible or factual. Take a few minutes and convert the times to true, known speed ... it doesn't hurt the kid .. and a few more people may be able to buy into your opinion.
  12. I can buy your logic and thought process here ... it makes sense and it is not over the top. Like you say ... he is an incredible talent ... and he has incredible speed. That is truly what is important. It certainly does not diminish his ability as a player. I wish more people would go about things in the manner in which you did here. These types of stories do just as much damage as good (at least .. that is my opinion). It is hard for people like me ... who have a background in track ... to even take a 2nd glance at stories like this. It looks questionable .. and it stops some coaches dead in their tracks .. meaning ... it is hard to buy into stories like this. It puts the credibility of many people in question .. which ultimately hurts the young man in question. I am just tired to death of these stories that come from camps .. where kids are running faster than 99.9999% of the fastest players in the history of the NFL. Not to mention ... 4.29 puts Baker approximately 3 strides off Usain Bolt ... you know ... the fastest man in the history of the WORLD. (Not to mention .. if any college in the country actually believed that he ran a 4.29 ... he would have an offer from every school in the SEC, Top 25, etc, etc).
  13. Okay .. timeout ... Baker's best 40 is 4.29? Sorry ... NOT buying that garbage at all. The fastest 40 in the HISTORY of the NFL is 4.24 .... Baker is .05 Away? 11 Fastest 40-Yard Dashes in NFL History He may be a great player ... but ... I have seen him on the track ... and his 100 time doesn't SNIFF a comparison of 4.29. Jacob Smith may not be as good of a football player as Baker ... but after seeing him for the past few years (and seeing the fastest that this state has to offer on the track for the past 20 years) ... Smith would not gets his doors blown off. (I could care less if he is faster). But ... what are you truly accomplishing by saying that Baker has ran a 4.29? Did you read that in a magazine somewhere? Anyone who believes that may want to check into the looney bin for a week or 12.
  14. Okay Clyde ... If I would have known that Mark was your brother ... I would have taken it easier on you all these years!!
  15. I have tried to refrain from posting too much ... but I would like to share a few thoughts. *I saw Newport's first scrimmage ... and they have improved LIGHT YEARS since then. *The Newport players on the field played hard (no clue what happened on their sidelines). *The Newport players on the field did not talk trash to Beechwood (at least not that I could hear .. and I was close--they did give each other a hard time when something they were responsible for happened--but that was more like they were holding each other accountable). *After the game--all kids and coaches were first class (not happy that they lost--but they shook everyone's hand and wished us good luck--as did their coaching staff) *My assessment is that the players on the field (again ... no clue about the sideline) have bought into what they are being taught. *The coaching staff (new and old) are doing a solid job ... and hopefully they get plenty of time. I feel like they will continue to improve. There are some things that they could clean up immediately ... that would help significantly (don't pitch on option when someone has you completely wrapped up, take the sack when you have no receivers open, etc). My final assessment--if the players continue to work hard and improve (which I feel like they are doing) .. they have a chance to do special things in the future. Obviously one man's opinion ...
  16. Ha, ha! Of course! George played at EKU for a season or two. The other thought ... things probably would have been extremely different for George if he would not have broken his foot his junior year. He broke his foot in the 4th game of the year .... a few plays after hitting a 1000 yards for the year and didn't play again until the last game of the season. I was fortunate to play on every same team every year with the Bowling Ball. Talk about someone who changed the circumstances of his life. He basically raised himself on the streets of Lexington until he was in 6th grade .. when he was adopted by a family in Burlington. If you ever get a chance to hear George at a speaking engagement ... do it. I still have a hard time imaging how he made things work. (Not to mention ... the Bowling Ball is one of the funniest human beings ever!)
  17. George was a year older .. and senior year to Shaun's junior year ... George was better. Alexander certainly pushed his game to a completely different level in his senior season. He also outgained Alexander by 200+ yards in one fewer game. The Bowling Ball was not only fast ... but in his senior year ... he ran through people ... and physically punished them. To this day ... I have nasty scars on my back from where the Bowling Ball ran right up my back because I didn't get my slow butt out of the hole fast enough.
  18. Actually ... he is correct. Shaun wasn't all that great in pee wee ... he was solid ... some people would even say that Duran was better than Shaun at that time. Also .. a few more interesting thoughts ... *Funny how injuries change the course of a players life/career. I am sure that Shaun would have still been as successful .. but he got a chance a lot earlier due to the injury of one of his team mates. *There is one school (off the top of my head) in NKY that Alexander could never get a 100+ yards against ... and I doubt that many of you would guess the right answer.
  19. Wow .. those 11 stories were proven to be real. Let me guess ... Elvis is still alive and he lives in a van .... DOWN BY THE RIVER! I find that pretty interesting considering the fact that the first issue was published in 1926! Are you honestly trying to give that dish rag credibility? I have read countless posts from you regarding the liberal, left wing media ... yet you are willing to consider the same type of trash from a right wing horror show embarrassment of a website .. and you support information/quotes attributed to the National Enquirer .... ha, ha, ha, ha! But hey ... if you want to come on a message board and spread things like this ... that make you look like a fool ... that's your right!
  20. Food for thought .... according to this story/website: "As the National Enquirer reported (the same tabloid which broke the John Edwards sex scandal), the accusation was being made by former Clinton aide Larry Nichols." 1. How bad is a story or site that TAKES QUOTES FROM THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER? 2. How in the dark is Mountain Ref ... that he/she believes a story that takes quotes FROM THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER?
  21. I have seen Colerain in a ton of games since 2006 ... and I certainly haven't seen a ton of the I in the last few years ... Lots of single backs, slots, wings ... I think that Colerain sees things from a different level (good or bad) compared to many "flavor of the week" teams. First ... they run a program offense and a program defense that really doesn't change much from the Little Cards to the high school. They believe in their scheme and they are prepared to live and die with it. Also ... look a little deeper ... it isn't just about the offense. It is about controlling the clock with a scheme that most teams do not see often. Then ... they play DEFENSE. A famous coach (with about 8 state championships to his name) once told me ... when it comes playoff time .. you win championships by running the ball and playing defense. That is what Colerain wants to do ... and while they may not have a trophy case full of championships ... how many losses do they have since Bolden has been around ... I would bet that it is somewhere around 15. Keep in mind ... that is a gauntlet of playoff match ups ... St. X, Moeller, Elder ... etc. All teams that are permitted to operate under a different model (public vs private ... and they still win their fair share). When you think about it that way ... they raise the kids in their program to fit that role. (Which goes to the point that they are never really developing passing QB's or a passing game). At the same time ... they don't need a screen game ... they already have kids who push the edge ... and probably get there just as quickly as a screen pass would. The common screen pass now-a-days is just a sweep substitute for teams that are not fast enough to get the edge. If you say that a vertical passing game would benefit the program ... that is certainly something that I would agree with. If you look at the numbers from around 2011 to 2013 ... there was certainly more of a vertical game. With that said ... I really don't think Tom is "risk adverse" (but I understand why you feel that way). I just think that they believe in the program that they live by .. from young to old ... because there are many years where the talent is not what it truly appears to be ... but it works out and they are successful because you have kids running an offense and defense that they have ran since birth.
  22. Yep ... sure is ... #82 . My Dad was actually in the first graduating class at Pendleton County (and didn't get to play football his senior year). Another hint ... My Dad's grandfather, father and uncle owned the Chevy dealership right over the bridge on the left and the hotel right across the street. My great grandmother lived on the hill right up from Pendleton County high school for years. My Mom and Dad met at the Falmouth Dairy Queen (Mom is originally from Dayton, OH ... but her cousins lived--and still live in Falmouth--one of which died in a bad car accident in the early/mid 80's ... and one of the others is one of the best female golfers in the area). Your Mom may know my Uncle Mike better than my Dad ... he graduated around that time ... he passed away nearly 2 years ago. I am sure that they know each other ... if I had a dollar for every time someone randomly walked up to me ... and asked if I was my father's son .. I would be rich, rich, rich! (Which is something that is really cool about people from Falmouth).
  23. Sorry .. I wasn't aware that by me telling the truth ... that it means that you struck a nerve. I just don't think it is a huge deal if kids don't go to other sporting events. Also .. not sure how there are "definitely issues" (at any school) if kids don't want to go to any of games/activities/etc. I would venture to say that attendance at all high school sporting events has been on the downswing for years. Which has nothing to do with kids not wanting to go to soccer games or badminton It is NOT a sign of disrespect of dislike ... but it is a sign of the times.
