  1. Beechwood recovered the onside kick anyways, not sure what people were watching. A Beechwood player clearly had the ball.
  2. Well...it looks like those "Little Beechies" held up just fine against that vaunted Hazard running game. Smith had 120 yds on 29 carries. Where is Buebird_96?
  3. Hergott is not out ... new job so he stepped into a different role. Randy Tomlinson will be the OC. Coach Burnett is here and has the O-Line and will help with the offense.
  4. Serious? To some extent ... it is something that needed to be dealt with ... but he should be back shortly. As far as 2 sports in college go ... I would say the chances are high ... at the same time .. I doubt the 2nd sport will be what everyone expects.
  5. Actually ... just so everyone is on the same page ... the football field stays as the football field. The current baseball field and all grassy areas up top will be turfed ... so the soccer teams will have their own field during the fall (with bleachers, lights, etc) ... which then becomes the baseball field and softball field in the spring. The city and the school are also in the process of upgrading General Ormsbey to a multi-use facility that will feature an 8 lane track (along with additional ammenities that will be available to the the general public).
  6. If I am reading that article correctly ... it appears that this 40 was hand timed. Which means that you have to add .24 to account for the difference between Fully Automatic Timing and Hand timed. So .. this time should actually be 4.43 ... still pretty fast .. but not a 4.19
  7. Big shout out to Brett Slusher ... Class A 55 Meter Champ. Not a bad week for Brett!!
  8. Not just that either .... the meeting the night before with Roger Boisjoly, Arnie Thompson and others from Morton Thiokol had with NASA. The meeting starts out with Morton Thiokol recommending no launch ... then the NASA morons who state their displeasure with the recommendation ... then the Morton Thiokol management team having an "off conference" meeting .. where they give in to the pressure of NASA with their "Management Decision". It amazes me that NASA was not disbanded ... they were and still are a free wheeling, crap shoot organization that was/is more interested in their own agenda as opposed to the human beings they were sending to space. Roger Boisjoly is a hero to many (including me). He refused to be silenced ... and did everything he could to force Morton Thiokol and NASA to do the right thing. I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Boisjoly ... great man ... great engineer. You could still tell ... 20 years later .. that the Challenger wore on his mind .. as did Columbia 14 years later. If anyone has a few minutes ... do some investigation into the Challenger accident ... very hard details to swallow (for instance .. the crew survived the incident and didn't die until the cockpit crashed into the water). Lots of other unethical practices that are downright scary and eye opening.
  9. I guess that is where we are different ... I EXPECT aggressive live ball play ... and by living with that thought you are going to cross the line of relentlessness and foolish at times. Two Steelers who make Burfict look like a choir boy ... 1. Greg Lloyd 2. Kevin Greene Pretty sure that guys like that helped turn around the Squeelers into a program that got back on the right track in the 90's. Sometimes ... you need nasty, gritty, line crossing, jerky guys who back down from nothing to make it to the next level ...
  10. I was just with about 50,000 people who don't agree with you .... The section that I was in .... put the blame on 1. Refs ... who were horrible. 2. Hill for the Fumble. Once the ball crossed the 50 ... there was an overwhelming feeling that the Bengals had already blown the game.
  11. And you take him away ... and they lose by 20 .... VOR ... I love ya .... but seriously ... kind of surprised that you are going in this direction. There is a very fine line between being a relentless football player ... and being a dirty one. The truth is ... you can't really be one or the other. When you lay it on the line like Burfict does ... that line is going to be blurry. Name any NFL linebacker ... and I can show you a ton of plays that cross the line either way.
  12. For the first time in my life ... I can speak first hand about an NFL game I was actually at ... My goodness ... VOR ... seriously ... FOOTBALL IS NOT A GAME PLAYED BY LITTLE GIRLS WHO ARE SUGAR AND SPICE AND EVERYTHING NICE ... ... THIS ISN'T DOWN TOWN FORT MITCHELL. I seriously don't get it (not just from VOR ... but anyone who think that the Bengals should get rid of Burfict). Football is a violent, physical game that is not meant to be played by sissy's and little girls. It isn't a "gentlemens" game. It isn't golf ... or tennis. Or volleyball. *Burfict has made great strides with his personality since college (do a little research on what a bonehead he was in college). *Without Burfict ... the Bengals get BEAT soundly tonight. He was all over the field ... backed down from no one ... made the play that should have sealed the game. *Adam Jones ... seriously ... he has made huge strides as a human being and is one heck of a football player. What I will agree to ... is that Burfict has a reputation. And that hurts him every once in a while. You have #66 ... who hammered him late ... and kept going after the whistle (I was in row 7 with a great view). He defended himself ... at the end of the play. He didn't pull the scumbag move that 66 did ... while he was kicking Burfict while he was still on the ground. The play at the end .... I was far away ... but the replay board didn't make it look like anything other than being very close .. and a tad bit too late to stop himself. The funny thing is ... I would have bet money that Bengals fans would have been all over the board ... complaining about the officials (and in my opinion .. that would have been justified). But getting rid of Burfict ... Adam Jones? NO FREAKING WAY. Watch some old school film of Dick Butkus ... he tried to murder guys every play ... and he wasn't real nice about it either. But ... that was back when "Pride Mattered" .....
  13. Correct .. slow down ... (its a joke/expression ... laugh!) The lack of stats for the championship (on the KHSAA) does not mean that those stats did not exist ... and doesn't mean that they were not supplied at the appropriate time. So in a nutshell ... things were done according to deadline ...
  14. Slow down there ... *All of Slusher's stats were submitted on time and accurately. *Slusher's stats also included tackles ... which is something that we do not normally track. *Just because the KHSAA site didn't have the last game ... doesn't mean that the stats didn't get to the right people. (The KHSAA does not award Mr. Football ... it is done by a different group). *If you need verification of the above information ... feel free to send me a message.
  15. Middlesboro was my introduction into Class A Football ... I remember a nice evening at Pikeville in the 3rd round ... At halftime it was 28 to 28 (or 28 to 26) ... Pikeville worked their tails off to pull it close at the half. Next thing you know .. at the end of the 3rd quarter ... it was 78 to 28 (or something along those lines). I am 99.9999% sure they ran a quadruple reverse that night ... and it was a thing of beauty. To this day ... that was the fastest football team that I have seen in Kentucky. Dustin Wynn was one of the best kickers I have ever seen ...Floyd Branum ... wow. Was the QB's name Skidmore or something like that? Not to mention David Kelly. Great team ... I would love to see that Pikeville game again (at least ... the 3rd quarter).
  16. Quick thought ... not trying to stir anything up ... But ... why would you (or anyone else) share injury information on the internet for a high school player? I understand that it would probably get out anyway ... but I don't understand why this kind of thing happens ... so often. First .. opponents don't need to know anything about the other team's injuries Second .. not sure how good this young lady is .. injuries still freak prospective colleges out a little (not anywhere near as bad as it used to be). Last .. It this is a season ending injury ... athletes are already significantly upset about their injury .. and the last thing they want is to have to read about it on the internet. So I know that isn't what you were trying to accomplish .. but I am interested in why you would want to put this information out there.
  17. Actually ... the "Beechies" could care less ... and there is no fear of opening any can of worms. None are sniffing 19 ... Matter of fact ... many of the seniors are still 17. From there .... it had no impact on the game. Pikeville won ... fair and square.
  18. Great thought here! Things have been tough in the preseason for the Tigers .... a few players decided not to play ... which has made things tough ... but better days are ahead. I am a huge Ally Johnson fan ... fantastic young lady who works hard to ensure she does things the right way.
  19. For the above reasons (and that is a very small sampling) ... no one from Beechwood who actually knows .... is going to tell you when Stringer is coming back. It is certainly your right to ask questions ... but that doesn't mean anyone from Beechwood would/should share information regarding a player who left the game with any injury. No offense ... all business.
  20. There is an actual rule that deals with this ... pretty scary that I know the rule .. and the officials in Georgia are freaking clueless.
  21. For once ... this uniform issue is actually extremely easy to explain ... If the state athletic association where this young man resides follows NFHS rules ... it has ZERO to do with the fact that the verse was on the headband. The real rule .. is that the headband has to be a single, solid color ... the headband can have a school logo ... but otherwise anything outside of the above items would make it illegal. In a nutshell the head band could have said "Uncle Roger and Uncle Clyde are 90 years old" .. he would have gotten the boot as well ... because the writing breaks the single solid color rule. The uniform rule has relaxed a ton over the past few years ... and I would expect this to be relaxed a little more in the future ... and I have no idea why it hasn't been already.
  22. There are plenty of ways to look at it ... everyone can be right or wrong. What I can say is that when you are playing 12 to 14 "meaningful" snaps--you take what you can get in regard to conditioning. Most humanoids are going to have an elevated heart rate in a game situation ... at that point--the jog back and forth does a have a benefit in regard to cardiovascular fitness. What that benefit is ... varies from person to person. Running in practice has different effects ... and it is something that we work on and approach from a different point of view than most. To be clear ... my main point in this conversation is that the dialogue between the OC and QB is the true benefit for both. Sometimes it is a few words ... sometimes it is more than that. From my point of view--it is a beneficial tactic. As far as conditioning goes ... our plan changes as the year goes on. From there ... I am not going to comment on when/what/how/why in regard to this topic. As far as a QB lifting weights? Ha, ha ... I am not sure I have ever seen such a thing!
  23. Tony does a great job ... definitely one of the all time greats. Also ... a shout out to our Beechwood girls and boys ... In the 3rd year of our program .. the girls were 2nd place and the boys were 9th. (Not to mention ... we only lose one senior on each team ... young with a bright future)
  24. You asked for thoughts ... and guess what ... you got them. Not real sure how that comes across as striking a nerve .. but if it makes you happy .. fine by me. You asked for input .. and you got it .. you didn't like the answer you received .. so you pull the "struck a nerve" cop out (and for the record .. it took me about 4 minutes to find 50 plays where the QB ran less than 3 yards to get a play and I can assure you .. I am right). Next time .. if you don't really want input ... then don't ask for it. When it comes to the QB and the OC ... things are obviously working pretty well (and they have been for a while). As far as advancing intellectually with the analytics of play callings ... I think he gets a ton more of that when he comes to get the play .. which also gives him an opportunity to provide input--which is something that he would most certainly not get if he was standing at the line .. waiting for a coach to yell a number that he can look up on a wristband--which again--gives him no opportunity to provide his insight. From there ... I understand where you are coming from ... but I will take the 13 years of history ... where things have worked out well. I just got back from a playoff game across the river. The team I went to see ... which is a traditional power in Ohio .. and the country ... does the exact same thing with their QB. It happens a lot ... and I think you would be surprised at the knowledge transfer that occurs in that 5 to 7 second timeframe. None of which would happen if it was done on field with a wristband or pictures, etc. Different things work for different people, groups, etc. If it ceases to be beneficial ... then it won't continue.
