I am astounded and overjoyed that beechwood was finally able to break through an age old wall and get not only a girls but a boys program.

 

I have to wonder how hard the school and paricular another fall sports administration is trying to end this.

 

I guess the real question will be if the new turf field will have more than one set of sports markings.

The football folks have tried long and hard to stop this and while I'm not a fan of Beechwood, I'm glad to see the soccer parents overcome the football coaching staff's all out effort to deny kids a chance to play soccer. Make no mistake, they did everything they could do to stop this. It was almost laughable that a school of Beechwood's caliber had no boys soccer team.

I am wondering, as bothways is, will they let them play on "their" Football Field.

If their field does not have soccer lines that would be a crime. To not think of all students that would benefit is unconscionable. EX: Boone County

Hypothetically, what does a football coaching staff do to prevent a soccer team?

Good luck to Beechwood on their first soccer season. Hope they have a great season and that it continues each year.

There is nothing really hypothetical about their attempts. It's been going on for years. When the most recent (and successful) push was being made for boys soccer, the football coach and a couple of players actually showed up at the school board meeting to voice opposition.

I completely understand the concerns from the football program. In a small school, there are only so many good athletes. If you lose 3-5 good athletes to soccer, the football program will suffer. The question is, would any of the soccer players be playing football if there were no soccer program? I guess we will find out the answer in the next few years.

 

As to the football field, when would the soccer teams use the field? I guess they could schedule night games and play under the lights? How do other schools work this out? Football is on the field every day till 6:00 or maybe 6:30. Band often uses the field also, and you sure don't mess with the band at Beechwood. I think they have as much clout at Beechwood as the football team.

 

Finally, perhaps this is a question for another thread, but I wonder if the move to more 2A schools and fewer 4A and above schools on the football schedule is related to soccer being added?

How many students do Beechwood lose to Cov.Cath and NDA because they don't have soccer? NCC, BB and HC manage to have soccer programs and football programs. The football team practices on the grass field they call a soccer field when the soccer team has the field that's how all the other schools handle it. VOR you have just gave all the proof people need to figure out why Beechwood didn't have soccer. Believe it or not I'm sure there are 20 boys that don't play football that would love to participate on their schools team.

I presented the football viewpoint. I have no problem with boys soccer being added. I am all for kids getting opportunities. Personally, I believe most of the boys who play soccer would not have played football anyway. It doesn't impact me in any way and I was not involved in any way in the boys soccer debate. I am saying I can see why those focused on football would be concerned. We will find out in the next few years if THEIR concerns are valid.

Could either of you, or both, answer my legitimate questions in my post. I am not trying to make points. I am asking ... when would boys soccer need the football field? How do other schools handle this? Do you think any of the boys playing soccer would have played football if there was no soccer? Those are real questions I am interested in hearing the answer to.

 

By the way, I think your posts are awful defensive, kind of like how the football people at Beechwood reacted. I understand why. But don't lump me into the people that are anti-boys soccer. I am not.
