I admittedly just don't understand Cov Cath's participation year after year. For the last several years they haven't been playing the games at special stadiums, the game attendance hasn't been impacted much by the "Showdown" status, and the admission costs more. Seems like a whole lot of news about a game that would have still been played in all likelihood.

Originally the idea was a good one............get some good matchups in games at the start of the season and have doubleheaders at a venue. Now I'm not really sure what the purpose is 3 weeks into the season in single games that would take place anyway? NCC and Campbell Co play every year and alternate home and away so what does this game being in the showdown and being played at Newport Stadium do?

As far as I know, all the games played are between teams that are already on each others schedule already. I liked the idea of several games being played at the same venue on the same day so people can watch several games, but now it has gotten silly when it's spread over several weeks and they just take a regular scheduled game and label it a showdown game.

No, just some are. Other games are "arranged" by Gamble. And there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, that is fine especially when some schools that are not usually part of something like this get to be involved and play teams that would not normally play. And when they get to play at Nippert or some place similar. But then when it does involve teams that would play each other 3 weeks in at the same place they always play it seems to be more about money.
