2014 Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown

Featured Replies

No, just some are. Other games are "arranged" by Gamble. And there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, that is fine especially when some schools that are not usually part of something like this get to be involved and play teams that would not normally play. And when they get to play at Nippert or some place similar. But then when it does involve teams that would play each other 3 weeks in at the same place they always play it seems to be more about money.

They have had games inthe past at Nippert etc. yet it's usually Ohio teams that play there isn't it? The majority of the games are taking place at high school stadiums and the majority of the games are already teams who were going to play against eachother anyway.

I liked the Crosstown showdown int he past, but I liked it when it was played in just a few stadiums and several games on the same days at those venues were taking place. If I'm not mistaken, there are only 1 or maybe 2 places this year where more than 1 game on the same day at the same venue are taking place. I personally think it would be much better if it were

1. Games held on the same weekend for the Crosstown Showdown

2. at least 3 games per venue per day

3. Not as many teams involved. The amount of teams involved kind of takes away any feeling of "Big games" being played or any games that could be built up to showcase the crosstown shootout.

This years Crosstown Showdown will encompass 3 weeks of the football season. That covers 1/3 of the regular season just for the Showdown. Doesn't make it feel as an exclusive type of showcase if you ask me.

There are 50 teams involved in this thing, so what exactly makes this thing special?

It has become more about making money than the games or the quality of the games themselves anymore imo.

RED = Interstate Play

24 total games to be played over the course of 5 separate days at 20 different locations. Only 5 games will involve interstate play. Only 6 games will be played in college or professional facilities (Crew Stadium, Yager Stadium, and Sheakley Athletic Complex). 16 games will be played at one of the competing teams' home field. The vast majority of the games appear to be match-ups that wouldn't otherwise appear particularly noteworthy outside of the "Crosstown Showdown" event schedule. I have to agree with all of the other folks who have said that this event has lost its appeal.

Agree completely. Conner was already on the SK schedule so I see it as a ploy to get another $2 bucks from me.

Isn't Sheakley the practice field?

I believe so, yes. Not sure why there's really much of any appeal in playing there at all.

Sheakley Field is their practice field but it is very nice. Nicer than most high school fields.

So is it worth playing $10-12

So is it worth playing $10-12

You read my mind.

Also, how's is the parking situation up around Clifton these days? I'm betting unless you can find a spot on the street, there's going to be a parking garage fee somewhere between $3 and $8 to tack onto those $10-12 tickets.

If 20 dollars is going to break you maybe you should stay at home? :D

I'll tell you this....I WOULD go watch Beechwood play Mt. Healthy at Sheakley Field for $7, and I WOULD go watch Beechwood play Mt. Healthy at Beechwood. I will definitely not be paying $20 to watch Beechwood play though.

Beechwood played at Sheakley last year. Anyone who went to that game could give idea as to what it cost.

It is also a stadium for other sports such as lacrosse. Nice facility.

Practice facility! Another reason why I'm not a Gamble fan. I would argue Beechwood's facilities are just as nice comparatively speaking IMO.
