  1. Would this really surprise anyone? After what CoachJ said about vote swapping for All-State -- why would this award be any different? With the way kids have a tougher time getting recruited in Ky, being on the all-state team or being Mr Football can make a difference and it is a big deal for kids. Kids work hard for these awards and to have votes swapped, bought, or anything else is shameful. And for the announcement to take this long just boggles the mind. As was stated earlier in the thread -- set the criteria and the date and be done with it. Not hard.
  2. I do not believe it diminishes the award. It calls into question the process/criteria. Several folks have had questions on here about the process. To me -- how did Hendrix win 6A POY over some of the finalists for Mr Football but not make the final list for Mr Football? I don't think anyone has a problem with the players on the list. They are all very, very good players who have had an outstanding year and would deserve to win it. All awards, however, do have questions about the process/criteria they go through. And when the finalists or the winners are announced there will always be opinions about who made it and who didn't. Go through all-state teams, all-star teams, pro bowl selections, etc and there is usually some opinion piece about who should have made it. Who made the final four for the college football playoffs -- there were some different opinions on that. The people who vote have to make a decision and not everyone can be on the list. Just the way it is.
  3. Congrats to the young man!
  4. Better than Milton Wright?
  5. Absolutely not! I have seen full out brawls in 7 on 7 when the taunting rules were not enforced and an asst coach got hurt trying to break it up. You have to reign in these young kids as, to me, they are not mature enough to handle that stuff. I expect pro's to handle it.
  6. Coach Reed did a phenomenal job this past season. Well done coach!
  7. I would think Sr to be Nick Bohn would be the QB next season.
  8. Seen this kid since middle school and he has been very successful--very poised with good scrambling ability. Looking at the stats from this season who will emerge as his targets next season? Collins graduates Maggard and Hawk who accounted for 94 catches and 2100+ yds receiving.
  9. Thanks for the updates. Other than Hawkins who did the scoring?
  10. CAL lost a ton with that senior group. Lagestee, Paulson, Purvis, Young, Thompson, Babin, etc is going to be tough to replace. That D-Line and MLB kept them in a lot of games. The O should be ok anytime you have Milton Wright. Carr will only get better and 3 OL return. I am sure they have some pieces waiting to step in. But Danville loses 3 starters. Yes losing Dampier is tough but is he all they had? No one who can step in at all. I watched the final and they played tough (VanCleave is very good!) vs CAL and CAL's defense up front had a lot to do with stopping Danville's offense and winning. CAL loses the core of that talented group. Can someone explain why Danville is not pre-season #1.
  11. Not trying to sound harsh but what does this have to do with Mr Kentucky football? Rivals does not always get it right. Players get over rated or overlooked all the time.
  12. I think over the long haul Jason is right. While some smaller schools are having recent success long term the bigger schools would have the advantage. Isn't this Johnson Centrals first title. Is this the product of a very good group coming through over the next several years? The bigger schools have just that many more kids to choose from and the percentages of getting bigger, faster athletes is there. Not all big schools but the majority of them.
  13. My son and I drove down to the 5A final and had a great time. Great meeting you before the game Purple88! Sat with some BG grads and we had a lot of fun. The venue is fine for a final -- thinking the kids playing were not worried about empty seats and we could see the action easily. Being cold and rainy could have something to do with lower numbers though. Would a more centrally located venue bring in more people -- maybe. But not anything eye popping in my opinion. I would like it at either UL or UK selfishly as that would be closer! Not sure others from across the state would agree. As for concessions - the $5 popcorn probably had a profit margin of $4.98 -- that was bad. I like the 6 classes and the opportunities it affords the kids/communities. This is high school football not college. No this is not some "everyone gets a trophy" thing. Twelve teams from across Kentucky get to play at a college stadium for a chance to win the title. Only six teams will -- from various parts of the Commonwealth, big and small. They have all worked hard, have talented coaches and kids, and communities that care just as much. Is it always the best two teams -- maybe not. But that didn't stop us from going. We enjoyed the game for what it was and I am sure the Pulaski kids/community were happy they were there. And I am sure there are a lot of kids from across the state that will be working just as hard as anyone else to try and be there next year. Lets not make more out of it than it is. I like the 6 classes and the big stadium venue. Could some things improve -- always. That is why Tackett and the board are evaluating. Good on them. And congrats to all the teams who made it to WKU on fine seasons and good luck to all teams next season.
  14. I am pretty sure Michael Lagestee is a SR. Is brother Ryan is a JR who plays DB and is very good. Milton Wright is a beast -- seen that kid since youth leagues. Green is a very good Sophomore with high upside.
  15. Danville dropping INTs. Wright has made a few plays. Reason I said that is I've seen CAL play better.
  16. Frankly I don't think either team playing all that well. CALs D line is the difference.
  17. Great win Rocks!! I am sure the kids/coaches put in the work to earn this title. Congrats!
  18. Thanks 88. Good luck to the Purples and Maroons next week.
  19. Cooper Cantrell is a senior. He is going to UK on a soccer scholarship. He did this for fun this season.
  20. A couple impressions from the game. Jake Johnson is a special talent and deserving of Mr Football. I have seen he and Walker Wood in games live and I believe Johnson should get it. Just my opinion. Big momentum shift when South returns second half kickoff to the 16 but a dumb block in the back penalty moved them back and could not capitalize on the return. Pulaski went down and scored -- a 14 point swing. Thought the game also changed when Keanan John (WR/DB) for South got hurt in the 3rd quarter and played sparingly the rest of the game. He was Souths deep threat and without that the offense changed. It also changed the defense as the Db's were then 2 freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Having Keanan back there may not have stopped Pulaski but could have slowed them down. Senior leadership would have helped. Souths offense looked like the number two scoring offense in 5A. Unfortunately the defense just came up shy of making a few stops in key situations. Zaubi had a hand in 6 of the 7 TDs (4 passing/2 running). Believe he set school records for single season passing yards and passing TDs. And he is a junior. Keaton Martin, who is a freshman, played an outstanding game and had an incredible season. Can't wait to see what is ahead for this young man. South will also return 2 OL, 3 slot backs and WR Drake Silcox. Lots to look forward to next season. Pulaski has a nice nucleus of players returning -- hope to see these two teams match up next season. Defenses beware.
  21. Great overview JD. This is going to be a fun weekend of football. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
