Rambo4343 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Perhaps the toughest class in Kentucky? Thoughts? CAL Danville Mayfield Holy Cross DeSales LCA OB Cath NCC
ColtPride Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Unreal, and I think the 2 best of the bunch are in the same district. On the West side, which has been pretty dominate.
PurplePride92 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I think 2A is the most competitive class at the top for sure. Those are some great football teams/programs.
hrcarrier Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I agree and believe it will remain that way for a while.
Voice of Reason Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Holy Cross loses everyone. I don't see them with a winning record in 2017.
MHSCardinal Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Unreal, and I think the 2 best of the bunch are in the same district. On the West side, which has been pretty dominate. Of course, you thought the same thing last year, but, imo, OB Cath and Mayfield were both better, certainly, as good.. I also think the east side is getting stronger and Danville, LCA and NCC should all be very good.. I also look for Murray, Somerset and Holy Cross to be pretty strong and capable of beating anyone on a given night. Lloyd Mem, Leslie Co, Glasgow and Prestonsburg should be pretty decent, as well. If I were to rank them pre-season, I'd probably go something like this: 1) CAL 2) Danville 3) Desales 4) Mayfield 5) OB Cath 6) LCA 7) NCC 8) Holy Cross 9) Somerset 10) Murray 11) Glasgow 12) Leslie Co 13) Lloyd Mem 14) P'Burg 15) Monroe Co
Wireman Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I think it'll be similar to this season. I look for Danville and LCA to have some epic battles in 2017.

They return just about everyone and have talented junior, sophomore and freshman classes. They got better and better as the season went on as evidenced against Holy Cross in the playoffs.
BigRedDiesel Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I guess I'm old fashioned, but I always start with 2 questions: can you run the ball? can you stop the run? MF should be able to do both next year. If MF can get enough qb play to keep teams honest with the number of helmets they put in the box, they will be just fine.

They got better and better as the season went on as evidenced against Holy Cross in the playoffs. I agree that Walton-Verona should definitely be considered in the top 15. And I will repeat again what I said above - it will be a major accomplishment for Holy Cross to get to .500 next year based on everything they are losing.
Toothpick Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Unreal, and I think the 2 best of the bunch are in the same district. On the West side, which has been pretty dominate. Maybe but I would be the first to disagree, especially when considering we were down 2 of our best players at CAL and it was any ones game until a late pick 6 that was the result of a neck cramp Similar to last year where in Mayfield felt that OC was the best team we played and felt they were #2 for 2017 Mayfield will need to replace a very good QB and will do so with a very talented sophomore but I see no way that he will be as good as this years atleast early but we have the makings of another Arnett/Guhy type we think. RB we have to replace Bright and we should have a perfect replacement in Mathews plus we will have Tyler back for the power back who was out for the CAL game but showed his skills in replacing Bright against Corbin and a couple other games when Bright was out. Not as fast but a bruiser, also our nose guard and a very physical kid. We will have to replace WR Lumson but we that is the deepest spot on the team and will not miss a beat there. On defense we lost 2 outstanding LB but have a very good replacement for 1 but a mystery for where the other will come from right now. Though the rumor mill may have a solution The other loss was our little undersized DLineman Brimmer and I am not sure who will fill that void but I think we will be ok there. All in all it will come down to QB play and I don't see how it could be as good and line play which will be better. As of now I would place MF at #1 but I think they will be in the hunt as a very serious contender. My short list of contenders as of right now would have to be DeSales, CAL, OC and MF. The EAst will have 2 serious contenders in Danville and Lex Christian. I think my order would be DeSales at #1 with what all they return, CAL #2, Lex Christian #3. The loss of the Ads QB will be the only thing keeping me from placing the ADs right there with what all they return and if that goes well they would also be right there as would MF for similar reasons. OC was only a step a couple steps behind MF this year and they return a ton and will also clearly be in the hunt. There is my best arm chair QB thoughts !

They had a special senior group, just like the year they won the title. However they are not like NCC where each year they are right back to being a top 5 or 10 team. They will fall back for a few years like after their last special senior class that won the title.
thunder1 Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 DeSales and LCA for the 2A Championship next year!
