Who/What does Mayfield have coming back? What about Murray and Butler? Oboro Catholic? 2a is tough!

Mayfield will be Mayfield. They lose some superstar power but rest assured they will be in the thick of the 2A title picture.

OCath you can say the same, except the Aces return some of their homerun hitters including Vonn Williams who is going to be a stud. Will Warren is back at QB and may not put up the video game numbers you are used to at QB for the Aces, but I expect improvement. They will be a threat.

Butler County will have to adjust to life without Rex Henderson. Don't see them being a factor in the big picture.

Murray was way down by their standards and I don't see them contending for a title, but should be better than last year.

I agree with Atlanta in that Murray and Butler are not likely to be contenders but OCath will be one for sure. Mayfield will have a lot of work to do to get past OCath but has a ton of potential. Time will tell and I see them with some struggles early but should be a tough out by the playoffs but not sure if that would be enough to get past what I think are the 3 big title contenders in the West in OC, DeSales and that Carr-Wright team.

If there is a better player than Milton Wright in 2A I will be the first to admit that I am scared to death. Wright might be the best Frosh and Soph I can recall having watched. My sleeper, if you can ever call them that would be DeSales, they were young and return a lot.

The other side, for the first time in a while has 2 title contenders that look like they are ever bit as good as the West contenders

I'm sensing that last season has lit a fire in the MF football program. The strength & conditioning program has ramped up and is more grueling than ever. On top of the required workouts, we got kids voluntarily hitting the gym for additional lifting/conditioning, sometimes two or three times a day. If MF doesn't make it back to BG, it won't be because they got outworked in the off season.

Why are kids hitting the gym 2 to 3 times/day?

Cause they want too.

That's fine and dandy. They are young. Just seems excessive and doesn't lend much time for recovery.

3 times a day has to be rough on the kids grades. Unless they have 3 periods of weightlifting.

Holy Cross will have a down year. I think Walton Verona has a solid year though along with NewCath.

I like Owensboro Catholic to meet Mayfield again coming out of the west. Game will be at Mayfield if it happens. Both teams are still young in spots, but Mayfield will be Mayfield and find new tough kids to step up. OC has bunch of young kids that played significant roles last year, so still young, but have been in a few battles. They have a core of playmakers that most teams would love to have. Big young QB Warren can make all the throws(Im hearing they are gonna turn him loose this year), Williams at Rb is tough as they come, Mills at WR is Edelman like, hearing about a new kid Hamilton who is fast, can jump and make plays. Look for him to be very involved. Only question marks Im hearing are lineman depth and finding some playmakers on D to go with Todd. Hearing Harrington kid may be big role.

If the Blair kid is coming back I think they will be fine. Secondary will be pretty good.

Offense will have some playmakers but the big question is Catholic will have to replace the OL. They lose alot there. I think it's time OC makes #9 a tackle. He is very athletic for OC to help them with their screen game.

I have heard the kids say Harrington is not playing this year. Wants to work with his dad. He would make a good TE or inside Receiver for sure.

Making #9 a tackle might be a brilliant move. He definitely needs to be on the field most snaps. Hate to hear that about Harrington, he is a gamer, hope he sticks around. What does the freshman and sophomore lineman look like? Are they going to be able to contribute any this year, even rotation?
