  1. I didn't get a good feel for how Trinity's running game looked vs Ryle. Playing a team like Carmel I have to believe you will need a balanced attack. I know Nick Bohn will buy time and can scramble very well and make plays but I wouldn't want to live on that for a whole game. How will the running game/OL hold up will be the key question for these first few games.
  2. Great overview DMC! I was fortunate enough to see both South Oldham and CAL scrimmages this week. I believe you are correct -- this game will come down to line play. South's OL played fairly well vs Butler with four new starters. They were able to open a few holes and Zaubi did have time to throw. However, the holes were nothing like last season and Zaubi did have to scramble some. This week they should get 3 year starting RT Brett Basham back. That would help. CAl's front seven last year was the dominating force of that championship team defense. With Paulson, Purvis, Lagestee, Young, Babin and Sparrow gone the replacements have big shoes to fill. They looked good against Bullitt Central but I would not call them dominating yet -- Bullitt Central had very little passing game and looked a little overmatched this early in the season. Nick Olsafka returns on the DL and Chase Lanham is a very good player. Milton Wright at safety can cover a few sins as well! How well the DL comes together against South's OL will be fun to watch. South's receivers (SR Drake Silcox and SO Ethan Bednarczyk) will have to get open and give Zaubi some targets to take pressure off the running game. Look for SO JT Benson (RB/SB) to show what he can do along with Martin and George. CAL has Milton Wright and that says a lot. QB Carr always has him to throw to and I expect CAL to find ways to get Wright the ball in space. It appeared CAL was trying several different RBs -- interesting to see who gets the nod. The OL looked good and gave them some good holes to run through. I look for a very good game and this one could go to the end and who has the ball last.
  3. I believe South has proven that they can score points. If they can get some stops they will be fine. A lot more will be known after tonights scrimmage with Butler.
  4. Doesn't really matter where the Dragons are ranked pre-season -- South Oldham will always be fighting for any respect -- LOL. They have defeated Doss the last two seasons. Went 4-0 at the OC 7-7 and made the finals at the Central Hardin 7-7 with a very young team still learning to play together. The first two weeks of the season playing CAL and Doss will give us all an indication of the kind of season South could have. I too want to see how the line comes together as the skill positions look solid. A 3-year starter at QB with D-1 interest, FB had 1500+ yards and solid starters returning at WB and WR. Defense returns 6 starters. Lets see what happens tomorrow when they scrimmage Butler as a first indicator.
  5. 8/18 -- South Oldham at CAL. Great matchup of 5A semi-finalist vs 2A defending state champions. 8/25 -- Doss at South Oldham. A matchup of top 5A programs. South Oldham has defeated Doss the past two seasons but Doss brings a much improved team to Crestwood this year with high hopes of turning the tables this time around. 9/1 -- Moeller at Trinity. Should be a fun game to watch. That will be my one opportunity to see the Rocks this season.
  6. South Oldham Drew Zaubi - QB Three year starter. Has several 4th quarter drives to win games with under a minute to play. Record as a starter is 21-4. Can run or pass to win, whatever the situation dictates. Drew Zaubi Jr Highlights - Andrew Zaubi highlights - Hudl
  7. South Oldham vs Butler scrimmage now on Thursday Aug 10th at 7PM.

  9. Can you give us a little bit more about what they do have returning and what the replacements look like. I agree they have a lot of momentum going forward off these last two years. Their defense will either win some games for them or at least keep them in the game. Just was also going off what I heard about what they lost offensively.
  10. Thanks. Was wondering about Edwards as he should have another great season. Vaught also had a great season but am wondering about the QB. Can they get Vaught the ball. Agree Southwestern will be a tough out for anyone.
  11. Can you show me what Southwestern returns? Tried to find that on BGP and did not see anything. Did read the Owensboro thread and there are some big questions. But they are Owensboro and do have athletes step up. Have to see how things shake out after the first few weeks but will keep the Dragons in the top 5 for now.
  12. Nice post ColonelMike and enjoy the broadcasts. Think you could add South Oldham vs CAL? Great opening weekend game!
  13. South's OL is coming together. Always hard to tell too much at this point as the pads have not come on yet. With one of the best OL coaches in the state in Carey Figg I have a lot of confidence he will have them ready. As for the DL not sure yet. Let you know when they scrimmage Butler how they look.
  14. With who South returns I would put them ahead of Pulaski and Southwestern as of now. Owensboro I really scratched my head on. Posted again on the South Oldham thread so you can see who they return.
  15. Per the thread on 5A pre-season rankings this explains what they have coming back.
  16. The 7-7 tournament is Saturday, Jul 29th at Central Hardin HS with the first games beginning at 10AM. Participants include: Central Hardin South Oldham Doss Union Co Taylor Co Washington Co Bullitt Central North Hardin Central Collins Western Hart Co Green Co Looking forward to some fun match-ups there.
  17. Should be fun reading the BGP rankings for each division. For 5A I am going... 1. Bowling Green (that way until someone knocks them off) 2. Cov Cath 3. Christian County 4. South Oldham 5. Owensboro
  18. South Oldham is scheduled to play in the 7v7 tournament at Central Hardin on Saturday, Jul 29. Anyone know who else is scheduled to attend?
  19. Reading the posts Pool A -- Highlands A 3-0 Pool B -- Simon Kenton 4-0 Pool C -- Ryle A 4-0 Pool D -- South Oldham 4-0 Would have really enjoyed those paired up for a fun final 4.
  20. Had the good fortune to meet him a few times over the spring/summer. Wish him all the best in his recovery.
  21. South Oldham would have had to travel to semi-finals in 2015 if they won the Regional, did go to Pulaski Co last season for semi-finals and this season will travel to semi-finals should they make it that far. That's 3 seasons in a row. Seems the KHSAA doesn't believe District 3 5A would make it that far or worthy of hosting.
  22. Did I hear correctly that Terez Traynor got injured and may be out a while?
  23. That was a very special group of kids that just graduated. Four state finals!! I wouldn't be surprised if they had a pretty good year but that is a ton of talent that left the building. Some very big shoes to fill even without filling Jake Johnson's, including most of the offensive line. Think the young WR Sloan will be very good.
  24. I know South Oldham will be playing in the Oldham County tournament on June 22nd. Have not heard who is playing this year but last year it was a very good one to play in. Lots of good teams.
