Which Louisville area games are the most interesting to you this season?

Featured Replies

Is there a big rivalry game that you're interested to see the outcome of? Or a match-up between two teams from different classes? Maybe a game with a team from out of state? Or are there two teams who will just be battling it out for their district title that you'd like to see?

Trinity game tops my list and then Bowling Green, Cincy STX, and Cathedral. Of district games I would say PRP and Male.

I usually just scan the KHSAA scoreboard every week to see what good games are happening in town. I pick the most intriguing one and go.

My shortlist:

09/01/17 St. Xavier @ Bowling Green

St. Xavier is sitting at the #2 spot in Louisville once again, and the two-year defending 5A champs are going to go head to head early on in the season. This should be a great one.

09/01/17 Trinity vs. Moeller (OH)

The 2016 Kentucky 6A champs versus a perennial power from Ohio that laid an egg in 2016. Moeller is expected to be improved on their 4-6 season from last year, where they had several losses they wish the could have back, including a 7 point loss to the eventual Ohio Div. 1 champs.

09/15/17 Christian Academy - Louisville @ Newport Catholic

This one is CAL's to lose. I'm still going to be watching just because of my general interest in NKY teams...and you've got to like New Cath for having THREE of the 2016 state champs on their schedule in 2017.

09/15/17 Trinity vs. Champagnat Catholic (FL)

Big game for the Rocks against the 2016 Florida 2A runners-up. I'll likely be in attendance for this one.

09/22/17 DeSales @ Lexington Catholic

Two solid parochial programs year to year. Neither ended up exactly having the seasons they had last year. How do they each do against a program from a different classification and a different region?

10/27/17 St. Xavier vs. St. Xavier (OH)

Louisville St. X lost to the Cincinnati St. X Bombers 28-3 last season. The Bombers went on to win the Ohio Div. 1 state championship, and the Tigers lost by 10 in the 6A semifinals to Trinity, who went on to win the 6A state trophy. How do the Tigers do this year in the battle of the X's? This is another game that I'm very likely to check out.

October 6th 2017 --DeSales at CAL --This has become a must see regular season game and can be a repeat/revenge game in the playoffs. CAL comes in a favorite, doubly so at home. Can the Colts stop the Milton Wright show? Come just to watch him perform, but DeSales is a program with a lot of pride that executes consistantly--very well coached. Hope this one is a barn burner.

October 27th Waggener at KCD--With so many big school/high profile games available in Jefferson County, why come to a lil ol late season match up with a 3A at a 1A. I think the talent on the field sells this game. Waggener's Tahj Rice is a Duke commit after everyone in FBS offered him. His teammate Jarius Brents has Alabama and dozens of other schools wanting the speedy DB/WR/QB to play for them. Senior Manny Harper may end up with some D1 offers as well. On KCD's side of the ball, TE Josh Lifson verbally committed to Air Force this summer. That's three legit D1ers locking horns throughout this game along with some other D2 and D3 next level talent Like KCD QB Jackson Diaz and WR/DB Gianni Minor to complete the rosters. Come watch them show their stuff!

8/18 -- South Oldham at CAL. Great matchup of 5A semi-finalist vs 2A defending state champions.

8/25 -- Doss at South Oldham. A matchup of top 5A programs. South Oldham has defeated Doss the past two seasons but Doss brings a much improved team to Crestwood this year with high hopes of turning the tables this time around.

9/1 -- Moeller at Trinity. Should be a fun game to watch. That will be my one opportunity to see the Rocks this season.

October 5th - Doss at Fern Creek - Doss has been getting some pub as a sexy pick to make some noise in the playoffs. But Fern Creek has been doing that the last 2 years. The district is on the line IMO in this one. Both teams are very well coached and will be a heck of a ball game. Likely will have to take this one in!

9/8. Trinity at Male: This has developed into a very intense rivalry in recent years with the last 5 games decided by less then a touchdown and 3 going into overtime.
