  1. South Oldham had an outstanding season in 2016. They have a strong nucleus of players returning but some big shoes to fill in 2017. Returning offense SR QB Drew Zaubi (2317 yds/32 TDs passing / 367/13 TDs rushing) SO FB Keaton Martin (1558/19 TDs rushing) JR WB Payden George (537/4 TDs rushing / 344/6 TDs receiving) JR WB Colton Bowlden (365/4 TDs rushing / 365/4 TDs receiving) SR WR Drake Silcox (371/5 TDs receiving) SR C Tanner Goodlett SR RT Brett Basham Returning defense SR DE Hayden McMullin SR LB Zach Moore JR LB Noah Mitchell SR CB JaMartez Beaudoin SO S John Downing JR S Payden George There are several players who played a significant amount last season who can fill in for those who graduated. WR Keanan John will be missed but SO Ethan Behdnarczyk is ready to step in after being a solid contributor in the playoffs. I think losing all-state RG Graham Ashkettle, Alex Crittendon, Tanner Bates and Nick Mills on the OL and their productivity will be the toughest challenge this offense will face. There are some good players ready to step up -- that will be interesting to follow in training camp. Losing Ashkettle, Jared Cotton and Darren Weathers on the DL, all-state MLB Drew Baetens and all-state CB Keanan John will be tough to replace. SO JT Benson is ready to take over for John at CB as well as the kick returner role. SO DL Tyrelle Love should be ready to step in this season and be a starter. Again, there are some very good players ready for their shot at moving into the starting line up. This is a very, very good coaching staff and I believe this team could be very good come playoff time. The opening two games (CAL and Doss) should give them a good idea of where they stand and what needs to be done for another playoff run. Looking forward to the season!
  2. Nick Bohn, in my opinion, will start. He has about a 50 yd arm, very accurate and moves extremely well. Could it be on offense that Bohn, Strothman and Moore will be the only Seniors in the starting line up? I also believe the defense will be stout. They could be good enough that no team in Kentucky will score on the starters.
  3. Austin Carr Passing % 243-409 59.4 Passing yds 3537 TD's/INT's 47/17 Rushing 148 yds/5 TD's
  4. Zaubi is 6'3 1/2" 205 Any word on what is involved in the challenge? What are they going to be doing?
  5. Milton Wright is among the top players in the state either on offense, defense or special teams. That alone is an advantage! The defense lost most of a very strong front seven on defense -- which to me was the strength of the team. That will have to be addressed. I am sure Coach Lefors will take care of that. The offense returns a good deal of the line and a good two year starter at QB. With that and a receiver like Milton Wright they will no doubt score points. Should be a very good year for the Centurions.
  6. 2018 SOHS QB Drew Zaubi picked up his first offer last night from Morehead St. He was very excited and felt very blessed to receive the honor.
  7. I know people have talked about the QB position but I am wondering who will be the lead RB for the Rocks this season? Passing game should be fine with Moore and Strothman at WR.
  8. South Oldham travels to Boone Co on 9/15.
  9. I believe the Rocks defense could be better than last season. But I am wondering not as much about the QB as I am about the O-line and running game. Those are going to be some big shoes to fill and there could be a lot of underclassman filling those shoes.
  10. 1. Some teams on that list seem to just reload (Trinity, St X and Male). 2. Some others have lost a lot and will be question marks to me as to just how good they turn out. Fern Creek, Bardstown and Manual come to mind. CAL also lost a very strong senior class, especially some lineman, that contributed to a championship. Will be interesting to see who steps up for them to fill those spots. Not sure about DeSales and what they return. And then there will be teams like Doss who bring back a strong group and who have added some new players. I believe they could be a top ten team depending on how well they come together. I am sure you have other schools out there like Doss that will pop up. You also have so many coaching changes it is hard to predict how that will turn out for those schools. I think its going to be a very different kind of year for Louisville area football.
  11. Ethan Bednarczyk South Oldham 2020 WR ran a 4.78 40 and a broad jump of 9.6
  12. Junior Days -- Bowling Green on Feb 18; WKU 3/4; Miami Oh 3/12; Purdue 4/1; Southern Illinois 4/8. Some spring practice and camp invites along with Elite 11 invite.
  13. Ethan Bednarczyk also got some very good reviews at the Best of the Midwest. Ran a 4.78 and a broad jump of 9'6". Played well in the playoffs last season and should challenge to start for South Oldham at WR this season.
  14. I do like the schedule. On offense South returns Goodlett and Bashem at O-Line, McMullen at Tight End, Zaubi at QB, Martin at FB, George and Bowlden at slot back and Silcox at WR for an offense that averaged 42 points per game. The Defense was very young last season but returns 7 starters. A lot of the graduating seniors were lineman on both sides of the ball so I will be watching to see who steps up to fill those slots in the spring. I think if I read the playoff pairings correctly this year District 3 (South Oldham's district) could meet either CovCath or Highlands (or someone else) from District 5 in the second and/or third rounds. Winner of that region gets to visit Bowling Green region winner in the semi's.
  15. South Oldham released their schedule today Aug 18 @CAL Aug 25 Doss Sept 1 Bye Sept 8 @ North Oldham Sept 15 @ Boone Co Sept 22 Oldham Co Sept 29 @ Nelson Co Oct 6 Bullitt East Oct 13 Bullitt Central Oct 20 @ North Bullitt Oct 27 Shelby Co Only difference from last season is they dropped the opener vs Anderson and picked up CAL. Looks good to me. Just wondering who they will play in the scrimmage.
  16. Agree with the post. If I could add to it I would throw in a couple points. If your son is really wanting to play in college, attend a combine in their sophomore or junior year. Really gives them a sense of where they stand vs their peers from around the region and maybe what they could work on. Also going to a one day camp that has a lot of college coaches from D1, DII, DIII and NAIA schools helping. Univ of Cincinnati Under the lights the last few years is a great example. After camp was over the coaches sought out kids they wanted to contact or invite to a specific camp. Great exposure for your money and the competition among the players was very high. I am sure there are other camps like this around -- just have to do your research.
  17. According to the posts it looks like South Oldham gets to start the season with CAL and Doss. Nice start to the season. Knowing they will play North Oldham and Shelby County as out of district games that leaves one out of district game. They have been playing Boone County the last few years. Wonder if that will continue. Otherwise I like the schedule.
  18. I see Districts 3 and 5 are matched up for 2017 in Region 2. That puts Cov Cath/Highlands district vs South Oldham/North Bullitt district. There will be some good matches there. I would expect the winner to get a ticket to meet Bowling Green in the semi's.
  19. Good for the kids who got named but like has been said above some real head scratching.
  20. South Oldham OL/DL Graham Ashkettle has accepted an offer to play at Eastern Kentucky University next season. Congrats to Graham and best of luck!
  21. And every sport can point to players who come out of nowhere and perform well at the next level -- maybe even in another sport (Antonio Gates). You can't project with certainty growth, who "gets it", maturity, etc. Stats are a data point but not the whole picture.
  22. Agree. The award can get a kid on the radar of a school. Film and eyes on at a camp are the most important. That gives college coaches an opportunity to evaluate for themselves. Most important for the kids being recruited, to me, are his measurables and his performance. If he runs a 4.3 people will know about him. Not too many can do that. The vast majority have to get on the radar either through scouts, a camp, media exposure, etc. Awards can get some attention and maybe a look or an invite -- depending on the college level. They don't get you an offer. Stats do matter. Met with a college recruiter at a D1 school and he asked my son how the year went. Stats were among the items about how the year went. Led to lots more questions about the offense, etc. They mattered at least to that D1 recruiting coordinator. In the end they want to see him at a camp before they make a decision.
  23. Agree. Is has been what, a month and a half since the end of football season. Sad. But I bet that for whoever wins the award it will still be just as sweet.
  24. My point wasn't that colleges would all of a sudden recruit a kid because he is on a list or got an individual award. The point really is getting the kids name out there. He gets some ink because of it. That could lead to someone (a recruiter, scout, anyone really) to take a look at their video, measurables, etc -- that could lead to something. I read on this site that a big part of recruiting is name recognition. If colleges never hear of you its hard to get a look. And yes, even in todays age, that can happen. Those awards can give a kid that little bump needed to get someone to, at the very least, take a look. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess.
