  1. Great overall article. For Region II the team that intrigues me is Fern Creek. Those losses are to some very good teams early and the return of Teague could be a difference maker. They are on quite a roll and I believe will easily dispatch Bullitt East for six convincing wins in a row. Could they beat Oldham and South Oldham on consecutive weeks at home? South Oldham will go as far as their defense will take them. The Dragons can score -- their issue in the past has been defense starting in the second round. Shutting down the Fern Creek running game in the Regional Final and then the Region I champ in the semi's will take some doing to get to Kroger Field.
  2. I know why it happened. Just found it ironic after what happened last season. Agree that I don't believe we will hear anything about it this time around.
  3. How much of the bracket changed with last nights results? Also find it funny that Highlands, of all schools, is getting a team in the second round who gets a first round bye (Anderson County)!
  4. Keaton Martin for the TD. 2pt conversion good. Now 50-14 running clock. Signing off!
  5. Colton Bowlden with a TD for South. 42-14.
  6. Third quarter. South 35-14. Raining pretty hard now.
  7. Interception by Bednarczyk for South. Winfield TD run. Now 28-14.
  8. South blocked the punt. Short field TD run. South 21-14. Two minutes left before half.
  9. South returns fumble for a TD. 14-14.
  10. North Bullitt 14-7 middle of the second quarter
  11. Not sure really what that is supposed to mean. Doing comparative scoring like that doesn't really tell the story. Weather, field conditions, injuries, rivalry games, etc play a part. Highlands vs CCH is a big time rivalry game that was played in the rain. Some players were out that may play next time (if I read the blogs right). Next time they meet could produce a totally different result. Last season South Oldham beat Oldham County 16-6. An intense rivalry game played much closer than anyone thought. Highlands beat Oldham County 34-7 in the districts. Those comparisons meant nothing when Highlands played South Oldham. Would South Oldham hold CCH to 21 or below. Who knows -- they won't play unless they both get to the title game. South Oldham held CAL to 21 in the first game of the season without their best player on defense. Pretty sure CAL would not have scored 21 with him there. Only DeSales has kept CAL that low in scoring. But this season South is winning the games they have scheduled convincingly (except CAL). I like where they are until someone knocks them off. I do hope South Oldham ups their non-district schedule next year and challenge themselves a little more.
  12. South Oldham 28-14. Bullitt Central blocked a punt and recovered in the end zone.
  13. Sorry if this has been asked but is this game being broadcast?
  14. I see three tiers. CovCath is clearly head and shoulders above the class. Bowling Green and South Warren are in the next tier. The teams you mention are in the third tier. If I read the playoff brackets correctly Highlands, Southwestern and Anderson County would have to get past CovCath to get to state. All very good teams but not in the same tier as CovCath nor do I believe they would beat BG or SW. Then there is Bowling Green and South Warren. Both have some high end talent on the team and can run and throw effectively but to me not near the same level as CovCath. Owensboro and South Oldham would have to get past them to get to state. Owensboro had a shot to beat BG but came up short. South Warren vs BG Oct 19 will provide a little more on who is better right now of the two. South Oldham has a better defense than last season, their running game is a little better in my opinion but their passing game is nowhere near what is has been. A little too one dimensional to compete for a title. Their O-Line is good, just not dominant like a Scott County to make that work against top teams. To answer the question Highlands has the best case with the schedule they have played but that doesn't make them the best of the group. Any of the teams mentioned could beat each other on any given night. None of them are championship contenders in my opinion. I will vote for my Dragons as the best of the group!
  15. Good overall review except ranking Oldham County and not South Oldham after South beats OC.
  16. These teams know each other very well. Both have a run first offense and quick, aggressive defenses. South is led my FB Keaton Martin, a JR with 389 yds rushing. JT Benson is averaging 14 yds per carry and Colton Bowlden is averaging 9 yds per carry. Pierce had his best day passing vs Boone County, going 6-6 in the first half. He looked a lot more comfortable throwing and is coming along as a starter. Leading WR Ethan Bednarczyk is a threat to either take a short pass and turn it into a big gain or get over the top and take in a long pass. Both Benson and Bowlden are big time receiving threats out of the backfield. South's defense is led by a trio of SR Linebackers in 2 yr starter MLB Mason Bowman, 3 yr starter OLB Noah Mitchell and 1st year starter OLB Cade White. Cade is very tough and is the fastest of the three. He has been a big surprise and playing very well. The DB's and Safeties and experienced, fast and fly to the ball. The line is led by SR DE's Jack Herald and Luke Clark. This defense held CAL to a season low 21 points without Benson. I look for them to be aggressive vs OC and attack their running game. In my heart South has a lot of weapons and could score big. However, this being a rivalry game I am going South 27-14.
  17. I would give South Oldham a B right now. Sure they didn't beat CAL but not many on this list would. The argument is made also about several teams not having a great strength of schedule. That being said Souths offense replaced five O-Lineman and their QB. And arguably their best player (WB/FS/KR JT Benson) did not play against CAL. But the line is improving each week and new QB Anthony Pierce is getting the hang of being a starter at the varsity level. Coach Reed is bringing the offense along and seeing what they can do and playing to their strengths. Should be a fun game vs Oldham County this week. Winner has the inside track on the District and could be set up for a deep run in the playoffs.
  18. Places like Trinity schedule appropriate level competition year in and year out. They don't worry about won/loss record. It's about playing the best schedule they can and giving their players the opportunity to improve. Seems like no one in the state of Kentucky, as far as I've seen, cares to walk in their shoes and make the schedule they do. Some years may not go as planned and they may lose a few more than normal. In the end they are prepared to compete for championships -- not worrying about some opinionated or computer based ranking. Keep your heads up kids and keep competing!
  19. Final Score. Keaton Martin had 4 TD's and JT Benson had 2 kickoff return TD's to lead South Oldham.
  20. South Oldham's offense will always be run first. They return from last season FB Keaton Martin (JR), WB JT Benson (JR) and WB Colton Bowlden (SR). All three are outstanding runners and receivers. QB Anthony Pierce (JR) is a very capable runner. South can run up the middle and they have the speed to get around the edge. The passing game has yet to really come around to where it has been in the past. Leading WR Ethan Bednarczyk (JR) can especially hurt you deep if you are not paying attention. I think the defense is better than last year. The addition of Cade White at OLB makes a pretty good LB Corp way better. Adds speed at the position. The DB's are pretty good and the safeties very good with lots of experience. Should be a fun game tonight. Looking forward to it.
