Mercer was up 16-8 end of the 1st qtr. Cal could not guard Mercer’s guards. Credit their coach as they switched to zone and went on a huge run and won the game easily. Mercer could not guard Knight inside. Would like to have seen Mercer switch from man to zone and have Cal win by making jumpers.

It is high school basketball and teams on any given night can have off nights while another team is lights out. You can look at a lot of these teams and pick out a few games that are head scratchers. Pikeville played lights out against Mercer and Mercer had an off game and the score was lopsided. I have seen Pikeville in other games and they look very beatable. They got beat by North Laurel by 21 earlier in the season and Bowling Green by 17. Bethlem got beat by Assumption by 13. Mercer beat Russell at QOQ and gets beat by Rowan. Russell then beats Rowan by 21. Mercer lost Timber Yeast a Miss Basketball candidate and D-1 signee in a scrimmage right before the season starts. Throw that in with a really tough early season schedule and going to have a few losses. Anderson is better than they played the other night but you flip flop Mercer and Anderson's schedule and both teams have completely different records right now.

Why is this score shocking? A team's record can be deceiving based on who they have played. If Mercer played Anderson's schedule so far they could be undefeated too. Mercer played #3 Mercy at the time the 1st game of the season and was tied with 10 seconds left. Mercer has played atleast 4 top 25 teams in KY. They played ranked teams from VA and TN. How may top 25 teams has Anderson played so far?

Agreed for prior years. They have had some of the worst schedules in the region past 3-4 years. Schedule is better this year than probably since Faulkner was at Mercer so been a while. If teams don't have a lot of size Trevor Ellis and Jackson Perry can both be major matchup problems for teams in the 12th. Both are really good in the post.

I would say you are correct. Mercer beat CAL in the regular season in 2019 & 2020. This years CAL and Mercer teams totally different and Mercer really didn't have a chance. With CAL beating Owensboro Catholic by about the same score they beat Mercer by I don't see ETown having a chance with CAL either.

Mercer is an up and down team due to playing a lot of underclassmen. They just held West Jessamine to a season low in points in a 63-13 win. If they show up focused and have minimal turnovers/penalties then they can play with some teams. Is Owensboro Catholic that good or did ETown have a bad night? Owensboro Catholic has a common opponent with Mercer in CAL. CAL beat Mercer and Owensboro Catholic by about the same amount but CAL has beat most teams by the same score.

Mercer beat them at SW on 2/18 so home game for SW. SW is a solid team that could win the next game vs Franklin Co.

LCA had a great run over the last few years. What all do they return? Mercer returns a good line but lost all of their skill guys from last year to graduation. Mercer could struggle early with while figuring things out with new skill guys.

Yeast Record at Kentucky Wesleyan 2019 1-10 2020 1-4 Covid just spring 2021 3-8. College is a crazy business. Might be feeling the heat or may just want to do something else since not having much success. He has several family members that are part of the school system with Assistant Principal and AD. Has family members on the current Mercer team. Who knows if he is the guy but if so not that far fetched. If it is him hope is committed to being there for a while. We don't want to get in the cycle pre Buchanan where we had a new coach every 3 years.

I don't think there will be much put out to the public until there is a hire. I would say William Harris and Tommy Craig who are both current assistants have applied. Most of the applicants are head coaches from other schools so they don't want it out there that they are applying. Parents and players like William Harris/Tommy Craig and would have no problem if either got the job. Mercer has a great staff in place right now and most parents/players hope that current staff stays at Mercer regardless of who is hired as head coach. I think it shows that the Mercer program is in a good place right now as there is not the circus on here like some of the other recent job openings.

Mercer has a great staff in place right now in regards to assistants. Hopefully new coach would keep some of them and they want to stay. Harris I would think would be only internal option. Rowland could be possibility I guess but he hasn’t coached last two years since becoming assistant principal. If Clevenger was the guy is there a chance any current Ads players follow him?

Terry Yeast is one of the best track coaches in the state. I don’t think he has coached football in over 15 years. Not sure from that standpoint that he would be a legit candidate for this job.

I could be wrong but I wouldn’t think Buchanan would leave Mercer for Lincoln. Football has good support from administration and community at Mercer. No sports competing with football at Mercer as basketball is way down and baseball a non factor. Great track program at Mercer that does nothing but help football. Mercer’s weight room and complex as good if not better than most around the area.

His older brother was a QB there and left to go to Mercer. His last year at AC he threw 3 picks against Mercer in one game and had 8 for the season. He had 18 picks in his 3 years at AC. In two seasons at Boyle he has thrown a total of 3 picks. Did he get that much better? Is it playing in a great system at Boyle with great players surrounding him? How many good QB's are out there throughout the state that play in a bad system with bad surrounding talent? How many QB's with average stats could you throw in a system like Boyle and put up great numbers? I don't know the answer just throwing out stats. For him from a personal standpoint and from team success looks like he made a good decision.

I agree. Boyle won state last year without anybody signing D-1. I know the kicker has an offer from UK and Ziesmer has D-1 offers. Does Boyle have anyone else that has FBS or FCS scholarship offer? Not counting PWO? FD having 6-7 D1 players doesn't always guarantee a win.

Agreed. Mercer has beat CAL the last two years in the regular season only to get beat by CAL in the playoffs. Biggest difference is Mercer beat them in close games in the regular season. Mercer has a lot of ground to make up in the regular season loss this year.

Who did Stephney from Bell end up signing with?

East is a solid team. Nothing flashy and they don't have anybody that you look at and say we can't guard this guy. They play as a team and play good defense. Winters and Stepp for West can be a tough matchup for teams but they split during the regular season and anything can happen post season.

So Powell to Auburn and Traynor to Louisville are the only two non mid major D-1 players in the senior class? Everyone else is D-1 mid major or below in the senior class right? Think about the 1998 season you had Jaron Brown Pitt, Eric Brown Louisville, David Graves Notre Dame, Shawn Fields Georgia and Rick Jones Vandy all in the 11th region.

Probably 2 more still deciding on a college. Congrats to all three mentioned above. They are all three high character and will have positive impacts on their future teams on and off the field.
