Knights brace for invasion from the North

Records: Season opener for both

Series History: Tied 2-2, including a forfeit win for Ryle in 2001

Table Setter: You always love to see teams challenge themselves right out of the gate, and Ryle's I-75 south commute to Lexington could provide us with a Week 1 gem, as both schools enter the season ranked in the top ten of their respective classes. Last year in Union, LexCath sacked Logan Verax on 4th down to seal a 24-21 win. Entering his junior year, Verax looks poised to take the next step and become one of NKY's best quarterbacks. The question marks for the Raiders lie on the defensive side of the ball, where they must replace one of the state's best linebacker duos. While Ryle is set for the foreseeable future at quarterback, the Knights have a void at the position after losing multi year starter Jack Gohmann - 2,600 yards of total offense and 30 TDs last year. New coach Bert Bathiany has the luxury of leaning on running back Walker Hall - 1,200 yards/13 TDs - until the new quarterback settles in.

Good game to start the season for Ryle looking forward to seeing how it goes. The offense is in a decent spot and the defense is coming along will be looking forward to it. Close game last year with the inexperience being on the Ryle offense this season is a bit of flip with Lex Cath having graduated a lot on offense and defense but it’s always a great program looking for another close game - hoping for a different outcome this year.

Well, sorry to say we have an update for our viewers, but still good news for our listeners for the Ryle at LexCath game Friday night. With Prep Spin streaming the game covering the game and an assumption by LexCath that we were doing audio only, we were informed we cannot provide video of the game. But we're so excited to be covering an out of town game to start the season and it being such an interesting and fun game, Kevin Connor and Mark Wehry will broadcast audio only. We're thankful to be working with the staff at LexCath so we can bring out fans in the (859) this game and we promise to paint the picture like you were there. Tune in to 859SportsRadio.com for the game which starts at 7:30.
