I watched Cov Cath last night and they are a very solid team but I did not see any D1 level talented players. They have a couple guys who I am sure will play lower level college ball if they choose to. The same is true across N. Ky. in the teams I have seen.

 

Then I go to the recruit rankings and there are just 5 guys listed for the entire state.

Are there just 5 seniors that are D1 level recruits in the entire state?

My guess would be yes and no. Has the commonwealth ever been loaded with D1 players, no. However, there may not be even really one outstanding player this year. I think we could call this a down year over all. The kid from Bardstown who is going to Louisville could develop into a nice player, but it will take time. There are no impact D1 signees in this class.

I feel the same as 4 quarters. Top level talent does seem to be slightly down this season, but not by much since there is usually only a couple of thise type of players a year anyway. As a whole I don't think the talent level is down though, there are some really good "teams" that could hang with some of the best programs in the country.

I would say definitely for NKY in the Senior class, but I can’t speak for the rest of the state.

Madisonville has 2 D1 players. Marshall County has Zion Harmon. McCracken County has Jackson Sivells who has signed with Murray State. The most potentially talented player I've seen this year is an eighth grader, Travis Perry from Lyon County. There's plenty of talent if you look all around the state, I would guess. I've just seen what is available in the western end of the state. Lots of underclassmen talent.

I’d bet a lot of money Starks is a D1 player and I think McHale has a shot if he keeps developing and his body continues to mature. So maybe your point is there for the senior class

Starks is just a freshman so plenty of time to develop, but he doesn't look anywhere near D1 now.

And the best players at CCH are hardly ever D1 caliber. Cole-D2, Aidan-D2, Nick-D2, the anomaly is CJ. They rarely rely on raw talent just very well coached and developed. Green, Disken, Stocks could all be very successful for a high D2 program. I think this CCH team is on the same level as past ones, maybe even deeper.

Think he has been ranked by multiple outlets as a top 150 kid. You can go to an article Cincinnati.com published before the season and they talk about him being as highly rated as 73rd in the class of 23.

Talent overall in the senior class may be down as far as D1 talent, but the future is bright. The talent level that is in the 2023 is stunning. Over the next four seasons it will be fun to watch.

Thanks for that info. I agree totally that Ruthsatz's system is not good for a big man. Is Starks told not to shoot the ball? Beechwood literally backed away from him at the elbow and begged him to shoot it but he wouldn't.

Senior class this year doesn't seem as strong.

 

Has Kenny White decided? What about Alex Matthews?

Starks will be a very good high school player but I don’t think he will translate to D1. I don’t think he will get much taller than he is now and he is not athletic enough to be a small forward or shooting guard. I have said for a while he should play football. His prospects down the road will be better in football than in basketball in my opinion. He would be a beast of a tight end.
