Southwestern 67 McCracken County 56 (Girls' Sweet 16® First Round)

Featured Replies

From just looking at McCracken County’s 31-1 record coming into this game, and that was achieved with a very demanding schedule, this game’s outcome surprises me .

Couldn't handle the rougher play of State Tournament, play the game in Western Kentucky they win. Three-point shooting was unreal.

Yeah, I think SW hit 10 for 20 from deep in the game.

Southwestern is a very good team and 12th Region girls basketball has always been strong. Our region’s teams almost always perform well at the state tournament.

I would suggest Southwestern prepped for the tournament with a tougher schedule and took some lumps along the way. McCracken went 4-0 vs three teams in this year's tournament, Southwestern went 2-6 vs eight teams in the Sweet 16.

Isolation and scheduling because of travel times works against teams from the far west, even 6A sized schools. Henderson Co. puts up some good records every year, will win 8/10 2nd Region titles in a decade, and often makes a first round exit. Got to travel/schedule east of Owensboro and Bowling Green for tourney seasoning.

All that said, congratulations to the Lady Mustangs on a terrific season and making their first trip to the dance! ?

In regards to Southwestern's schedule:. Weren't 5 of their 6 losses in true road games and the other a neutral site?  I think they only played one of the 8 teams at home.

Excellent point, and worth looking at as an SoS component. Maybe call 2021/22 Southwestern's 26-7 team the "Road Warriors." ?

The seven losses (six to teams in the Sweet 16*) ~

11/29 @ #1 Sacred Heart*

12/3 @ #28 Corbin*

12/11 @ #4 Bullitt East*

12/21 (N) # 3 GRC* @ Lex Cath

2/5 @ #12 Bowling Green*

2/8 @ #6 Anderson Co.*

2/18 @ #31 Mercer Co.

The two wins, versus teams* also in the tournament ~

12/20 (N) #7 Cooper* @ Lex Cath

1/3 (H) vs #19 Franklin Co.*

Mercer beat them at SW on 2/18 so home game for SW.  SW is a solid team that could win the next game vs Franklin Co.
