Could be that the 3 Frosh NCC is having play Varsity are getting more experienced.

Mikah Freppon reminds me of the pitcher Randy Johnson. Can throw one by you at 98 and you have no chance or can throw you a changeup that makes you look silly.

I challenge you to walk/run from the bottom of the stands to the top row of the stadium and back down. it isn't far but I think that is where the Stairmaster people came up with the idea.

The only way I would not is early in the season when I would want the defense and offense to have more reps with players I may or may not come to count on in District and Playoff time. In District or Playoffs game..........get to 36 any way you can and get off the field.

Bellevue in the late 70s/early 80s always had very solid special teams especially at the Class A level much like Beechwood did in the 1990s.

Depends on the circumstances. Early in the non-district schedule on a beautiful night in front of the first real night game crowd there is no reason to go for 2 in that situation. In playoffs on a cold night with a tough game coming up the next week.......then you can bet they would go for 2 and get out of there as quick as possible.

Starting at the bottom. Holy Cross and Holmes should not have any votes. I'd wager a HUGE hot fudge sundae that Scott and Walton-Verona are significantly better than Brossart. And WV might be 7-10 ranking worthy. There probably is not a lot of difference between Conner, Cooper, NCC and Dixie right now and none of them should be anywhere near the Top 5. Camels and Highlands are about right. But I think I would slot Ryle down there with them. That leaves Beechwood as a solid 3. And CovCath or SK could be #1 right now. Either one would be deserving.

Every year they play I think this is the year Lloyd beats Beechwood and then goes on to win the District. Every year I am wrong. I think they have a shot this year.............then again .......

Both teams are inexperienced and need to use non-district games to figure things out in order to make a run in districts and the playoffs. Cooper is a 6A school so they should wear down the Breds. NCC did not face much of a passing game with Scott so unknown how good they are there. Offense got a lot better as the night wore on. First time in 4 years Cooper comes to Newport so that should help NCC. Cooper just needs to get out to a lead like last week but then build on it. I think it could be a fairly low scoring game.

This might be a good one. Last year it was competitive until Devils ran out of gas at the end. Brossart offense was way more dynamic and diverse than Dayton last year so it will be interesting to see if Dayton has improved there. Heat and conditioning will play a part as these are 1A schools with not a lot of bodies. Dayton will have to be better on defense and special teams because I think Brossart has the edge on offense because they will be able to throw it better. Dayton is kind of keying on this being a good year and with Bellevue and Ludlow putting decent games together last night they need a good showing. None of them will challenge Beechwood at all but the 2-4 spots are up for grabs. Brossart will be very competitive in their district as it might be even closer than last year.

Kicker and the holder did a good job. Snaps were not perfect but holder got them down and kicker did not let it effect him. Looks to have maybe a 40 yard range.

Could be CovCath or SK at #1. Hopefully more than 5 voters participate this week.

Ryle has some work to do but CovCath is really good. Ryle might end up being a decent 6A team come district time. Some teams are good out of the gate with returning skill players, some need to improve and need game experience.

Scott forced 3 and out to start game and then drove right down the field only to fumble at goal line. After that first half was pretty even with NCC leading 3-0 at half. Second half Scott drove right down the field and this time scored. The 7-3 score stood up for the rest of the third quarter and Scott looked to close it out but could get the KO score. NCC got MO from a screen pass that went 60 yards to the 5 and from there dominated the rest of the game. Summary: Scott has some decent speed at the skill positions but obviously did not throw the ball well. Defense did a good job and they have decent 4A size on the lines. They will be fine. NCC dual QBs did okay. One is a better runner and the other is a better thrower so might as well play both. Running back is game changer especially in 2A games. Defense bent some only gave up one score so did a decent job. I think both teams will improve as the non-district schedule plays out. NCC schedule turns brutal so improvement may not show as Ws in the coming weeks.

Thoughts in a few minutes

There is a big difference between having players that Can and Do play both ways in situations versus having players who Must play both ways in order to field a team that can win. Both Highlands and Cooper have athletes that can and should play both ways but only on a limited basis not totally like many 1A schools must due with limited numbers. Eventually both are going to run into teams that are totally platoon or play a few players a limited number of plays both ways and it makes a huge difference in the playoffs.

Both of them should be fine. EKU has good and bad points. I would like the "No PEP Bands" rule enforced at any morning session. That arena amplifies the sound.

No problem with the article or the way it was written but it does sound like ND is in Highlands coaching heads already or should I say continuously.

Assuming they stay healthy then yes I would say they are the heavy favorite. Doesn't mean they can't be beat but right now given the choice of if I would take Beechwood or everyone else ...................I honestly would take Beechwood. That isn't meant to say there aren't other good teams..........there are but I would take Beechwood.

Beechwood wins it in their last year in Class A.
