Can anyone challenge Beechwood for the class 1A trophy? Beechwood will more than likely get a 1st round bye and get an extra week of practice to scout their opponent in round 2.

The Tigers have some work to do and each of the last two State Championship Games have shown us Tiger Fans that it's a thin line.

I had this same talk with The Beechwood Authority a few days ago.

Hazard has just as much coming back as Beechwood. Paintsville has a lot of talent. Other teams have enough talent to challenge. Last year everyone thought Pikeville was the clear favorite. Two years ago people thought Beechwood. Neither of those teams won.

 

To add more thoughts, in 2015 Pikeville was pre-season #5 and they won the title. Last year Beechwood was #3 and won, and Hazard was #5 and made it to the title game. Paintsville started last season at #6 and then went undefeated to the state semi-finals. If you want to go back to 2014, Williamsburg was pre-season #4 and was one point away from winning it all.

 

Nope. Pre-season rankings are just an on paper guessing game so don't hand anything to anyone. I say look at those teams ranked 4-6. They seem to be the ones that sneak up and get it done.

In my opinion the main reason Beechwood repeats, is that they basically have the same line. hazard lost a lot up front, if I remember right. Beechwood started 3 sophomores at center, guard, tackle and had a junior at left guard. I also feel this year is as deep as beechwood has been in a long time. The only area they may be thin is backups on the interior o-line. So if they stay somewhat healthy, they will be tough to beat.

No offense ... but I think everyone who has been around for a while knows what you are trying to do.

 

There hasn't been one person on this board who has disrespected Hazard ... or made Beechwood an overwhelming favorite.

 

From where I sit ... Hazard has more starters coming back than Beechwood (3 or 4 on each side of the ball if I remember correctly).

 

Not to mention ... how many transfers has Hazard gotten this year? 3 ... 4 ... 5?

If this was for great conversation "between both the east and west side of the state to comment on" .. then you would have titled it with something other than "Should we just go ahead and mail Beechwood the 1A trophy?"

 

I have not heard one person in the state ... from multiple media outlets, messageboards, etc that has stated anything similar to "go ahead and mail Beechwood the 1A Trophy". (Other than you).

 

I know of at least 3 other transfers for Hazard (I have seen you comment on them on other message boards as well ... so lets not play dumb).

 

Hazard has more starters returning ... at least 4 transfers ... and lost the state championship by 7 points (and had chances to win). At the very least ... that makes them equal or possibly ahead. Not to mention ... Paintsville, Kentucky Country Day (who is flying WAY TOO LOW under the radar) are all good enough to win.

 

If you are looking for good conversation about Beechwood and Hazard ... maybe go about it in a way that doesn't paint Hazard as the victim. You are not going to get anyone from Beechwood (or anyone who follows football in this state) to disrespect Hazard.

 

Not to mention .... Beechwood plays them one game at a time. If they are fortunate enough to get to Hazard ... it will be worried about then. On the other hand ... if Hazard is already stacking those chips on their shoulders about Beechwood ... then good for them.

 

So ... good luck with your intended purpose for this thread .... I hope you find what you are looking for.
