If this was for great conversation "between both the east and west side of the state to comment on" .. then you would have titled it with something other than "Should we just go ahead and mail Beechwood the 1A trophy?"

 

I have not heard one person in the state ... from multiple media outlets, messageboards, etc that has stated anything similar to "go ahead and mail Beechwood the 1A Trophy". (Other than you).

 

I know of at least 3 other transfers for Hazard (I have seen you comment on them on other message boards as well ... so lets not play dumb).

 

Hazard has more starters returning ... at least 4 transfers ... and lost the state championship by 7 points (and had chances to win). At the very least ... that makes them equal or possibly ahead. Not to mention ... Paintsville, Kentucky Country Day (who is flying WAY TOO LOW under the radar) are all good enough to win.

 

If you are looking for good conversation about Beechwood and Hazard ... maybe go about it in a way that doesn't paint Hazard as the victim. You are not going to get anyone from Beechwood (or anyone who follows football in this state) to disrespect Hazard.

 

Not to mention .... Beechwood plays them one game at a time. If they are fortunate enough to get to Hazard ... it will be worried about then. On the other hand ... if Hazard is already stacking those chips on their shoulders about Beechwood ... then good for them.

 

So ... good luck with your intended purpose for this thread .... I hope you find what you are looking for.

 

So where was you at a few years ago when Mayfield moved up to 2A. There was thread about how many title would Beechwood get.

 

Like I stated before Beechwood is the favorite and I'm not down playing anything. I can bet you one thing most media and other state media outlets are going to pick Beechwood to repeat. Would you disagree with that?

 

Austin Combs come last year and he returned. Bryson Parks came his year and those are the only transfers unless you are wanting to count Cory and Austin from 3 years ago. They did lose a senior off last year who came when Combs did. Check me if you want but those besides Parks played last year for Hazard.

 

I didn't even expect Hazard to make it that far last year as I thought this year and next would be their year. Paintsville will be just as good as anyone in the class defensively. KCD will be Beechwoods only threat in my opinion until state.

Assuming they stay healthy then yes I would say they are the heavy favorite. Doesn't mean they can't be beat but right now given the choice of if I would take Beechwood or everyone else ...................I honestly would take Beechwood. That isn't meant to say there aren't other good teams..........there are but I would take Beechwood.

See now that's a fair statment. Many aren't going to pick against the favorite.

No disrespect to Kentucky Country Day or Russellville out West, but Beechwood's a virtual lock to at least get to Kroger Field. Once they get there, they're going to see an outstanding team across the field from them. Be it Hazard or Paintsville. Everyone else in the East is a notch or two below, in my opinion.

 

Hazard nearly stands eye level with the Tigers right now based on last year's outcome and the fact that both teams return a ton of talent. Then you've got to consider Paintsville. I think they're just a solid QB away from being right in the mix with #1 and #2.

Excellent post!! This is the type of material that we are looking for. Excellent opinion and very well stated.

They lost a little more than Hazard and Beechwood did, but, they also tend to reload every year and with all the blowout wins they had last year, had the opportunity to play there underclassmen quite a bit.. That should make for an easier transition than some may think with the new faces..

I was recently looking at the latest enrollment reports and it looks to me like Beechwood and possibly even Pikeville may well move up to an already loaded 2a in the next realignment.. As strong as these 2 are, It got me to thinking, where would these teams stack up in 2a if the realignment had taken place this year.. I know it's irrelevant at this point, but, out of curiosity and just for good conversation, would like to hear what everyone's opinion would be..

I like the Pikeville program and Coach Mac is one of my favorites... but this won't be the year for the Panthers. They won't contend at all IMO.

Concerning Pikeville. Didn't have the opportunity to go watch the scrimmage due to distance, but this a.m. heard some very encouraging news from very reliable sources. First of all, they did very well against LC, and moved the ball well both through the air and on the ground. The O line is bigger and stronger, and looks very stout. The D played well also. Yes, this is just a scrimmage, and most coaches are cautious about tipping the hand concerning the play book. However, Panther fans were pleasantly surprised. Again, they're young, but were optimistically better than what was expected. One more surprise was the confirmation that QB Wyatt Battaile will be returning to the team after surgery. It will take eight weeks of recovery, and he will miss the regular season, but should make a difference come playoff time. Not to take anything away from QB Peyton Blair as this young man has a great arm and moves very well. Only a Sophomore, and this will give him valuable playing time in the regular season. Got to agree, it's not their year, but look for them to get better and make some noise in the post season. The future looks great for them......no doubt.
