Interesting Notes on the record vs other schools. CovCath is .500 against 1A Dayton and .500 against 1A Bellevue and .500 against 1A Ludlow and .500 against 1A/2A Lloyd Memorial...................but has 21-15 record vs the most dominant NKY 1A school Beechwood. CovCath is 8-0 versus Campbell Co. and 9-0 versus Grant County. Obviously tough sledding against the Ohio GCL schools.

Could some one post the CovCath all-time record against other schools?

Non-District Schedule is brutal. Cooper, Campbell Co, Belfry, CAL, Conner, Beechwood are potential losses. Lloyd should be top challenger to break the District never had a loss streak. Offense will center around JR Kelly at RB but JR Cain will be a threat also. They always have athletic kids and can move the ball. Defense and depth especially against the larger non-district schools is always a challenge.

Never made any sense to me that a family would have to move to have their kid attend a school that they could have went to anyway from the beginning. What if a family could not afford tuition and is able to now? Why should their kids not be eligible? And how would it make any sense the other way? Maybe a change in family income means they can no longer afford to send kids to a private school. Why shouldn't the kids be eligible right away when now attending the public school?

You can if they are co-ed. Well you can tell how much they paid in salaries for basketball coaches (for Boys coaches and Girls coaches) by looking at the Title IX data on the KHSAA website.

Probable Pitching match-ups anyone?

B+ is fair. Two very talented players that do not come along very often and they rode them as far as they could.

I like the Florence Stadium and the players generally like playing there and I think the fans enjoy it. But the All-Turf field is freaky still.

I have absolutely no problem with the double-headers at Nippert Stadium and wish there were more of those. The price is decent for 2 games even some fans really only want to see their school's game. Playing in a Division 1 facility is sweet and memorable for the players. The mid-week games at high school facilities are terrible but at least you primarily have the night exclusively. The Friday games at high schools serve no purpose. And the days of Ohio vs KY (cross-town) are gone with the Harbin points on the line. Ohio teams with a chance to make the expanded playoff (vs years ago) can't just accept any game on the schedule.

Beechwood is an exception although even their roster is not as large as it once was. I believe among the NKY small schools it is down to them and NCC having Frosh teams. So they can continue and play large schools for almost all of their games as the number of schools with Frosh teams dwindle.

It is becoming a reality even for small schools (mostly 3A and under) who really want to and can field a Frosh team with 15-18 players but are finding the only Frosh teams left to play are mostly in 4A, 5A, 6A where there are likely 3 or more times that many kids on a Frosh team. So now maybe you can find 2 or 3 games against like-sized teams if you are lucky and then have to play 5 or 6 games against much larger teams. Then two years from now it will be 1 or 2 games and 6 or 7 games against larger teams. So eventually you might have to give up on having an all-Frosh team.

Be glad you are not playing in NKY. You would need a pontoon boat to get from the dugout to coach first base.

Christian Brothers has been getting kids out of NKY/Cincy since the 1960s. LaSalle and Newport Catholic were both Christian Brothers schools meaning many Brothers taught in the schools.

Was a good 3-2 game in 4th inning until a 2 out dropped fly ball led to 10 runs and a 13-2 score after 4.

Hands were straight up the whole time but bumping him with his chest basically. Kept doing it until he pushed him out of bounds. Obviously this was the player they wanted to foul but he was 40 feet away from the ball handler who had no one around him. Player made 1 of 2 and then they got the ball out of bounds.

Ohio D1 final. Moeller down 1 with 38 seconds left. Jackson has the ball and is dribbling it out front with the floor spread. No Moeller player attempts to guard the dribbler out near half-court line as the clock runs down. Instead Moeller player guarding the Jackson player stationed in the corner puts his hands straight up and uses his body to push the Jackson player about 8 feet until the Jackson player is out of bounds. Referee calls it an intentional foul? Correct call?

Moeller lost 39-38. Fouled with 3.6 seconds left and score tied at 38. Rebounded the second foul shot with 2.8 seconds left. After a TO they got off a good shot that missed.

Tony Perkins has resigned as head coach of the Holmes girls’ basketball program after leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back 9th Region championships and a 106-23 record over the last four seasons. Perkins, 57, said he told the players he would not be returning as coach after the team’s season-ending loss in the semifinals of the state tournament on March 11. He plans to continue working in school administration with Covington Independent Public Schools. “We had a lot of success so you know you’re going to miss people when you’ve been around them like that,” Perkins said of his coaching career at Holmes. “I just think it’s time for me to do something else.” Perkins spent most of his 31-year coaching career at North Hardin High School. He came to Holmes as an assistant boys’ basketball coach and took over the girls’ program in the 2013-14 season. The Bulldogs lost in the 9th Region championship game in 2015 and won the regional title the last two years. “I’ve been with teams that have a lot of talent, and you’re just blessed because it’s not as much about what I did as it is the players you have,” he said. “And the thing I’m proud of at Holmes is our girls had a GPA (grade point average) that was 3.63 the last time we checked. That makes you proud because those girls have come so far, making good grades and being good citizens in the community.” The only senior starter on this year’s 29-6 team was point guard Jaynice Stovall. She was named to the state all-tournament team and selected as the most valuable player in the regional tournament. With the other four starters back next year, Holmes should be one of the top contenders for the regional title once again. “For us to win 29 games and make it to the state final four this year was amazing to me because we had some flaws as a team, but we played to our strengths and won a lot of games,” Perkins said. Moeller is tied at 27-27 in the third quarter of the Ohio Division I State Final. Moeller has not lost this year.

Roger Bacon lost 54-52 in the Ohio Division III State Final today.
