Depth in Ohio football is well .....pretty deep. Elder goes down big.

Ugly and a game BW will get nothing out of. Last year was a classic. This year is not.

This is the first of two games (next against Brossart) that will show if Ludlow has any chance with Beechwood or if it will be more of the same in the District.

If NCC ever closes (which it won't because of the Diocese obsession with urban education) probably 70% of the kids would end up at Highlands (another thing the Diocese would not like) and 15% percent at ND and 15% at CovCath.

This should be a very interesting game. Mayfield will have to stop the Corbin QB from running and throwing them into a hole. Same thing for Corbin....defense has to keep them in the game and not playing from behind like in previous games. Hope the college goal posts are not a factor and these two slug in out. I think Mayfield is as good as anyone in the loaded 2A field.

How did this go from a 10-0 win for Calvary to a 3-2 loss in just a week or so? That is a huge turnaround. Which game was more of a true reflection of the teams?

This should be a good game. Conner is a decent 6A team and NCC is a competitive 2A team. Game being at Conner makes them the favorite I think. Of course we do not know the weather for Friday on a grass field. Both teams beat Scott and Conner played Simon Kenton tough. Conner is coming off a game they probably should have won and NCC is coming off a game they probably should have lost so factor that in also.

Girl kicker was 2 of 2 on PATs and kicked a FG and was Homecoming Queen. Big night.

Congrats to Ludlow. Two good opponents coming up next and after that we will know a lot more.

First, the CAL QB is so elusive and quick running the ball. He is THE offense when running and not so much when throwing it obviously. Second, CAL is so tough against the run on defense. They had one major breakdown but other than that they were lights out. NCC kind of won the game on heart. Well and some interceptions. Really has to be a confidence builder for them. Especially the way it ended. Yes the pass interference call was terrible but remember the official probably has the worst view with the ball and receiver coming right at him. So while it is easy to see the safety cut under the receiver and make the play I could see how it would look like PI from the officials angle. Then NCC staff compounded the issue with the Unsportsman penalty and really put the defense at a disadvantage by 15 on top of the 15 yards already. But the interception was a fantastic play. Got to give it up to the back-up QB for NCC. Takes a lot to play defense all night and then come in to help out the offense by running the ball and even throwing it when he was asked to.

Nice analysis by Eye of the Tiger. I would add that BW must be successful in the passing game to be able to run the ball. Those delayed draws killed Corbin because the LBs were needed in pass coverage. It won't be easy though because the big guy that does the kickoffs for CC will likely reach the endzone on a nice night. So BW will have to go 80 yards not 55 like last week.

I don't want this to come off wrong but we really do not know how good CovCath is yet thru no fault of theirs because all you can do is beat teams on the schedule. Ryle: Decent 6A team but not a Top 5 and maybe not a Top 10 6A team. Plus Home Night opener for CovCath and all that hoopla. LexCath: Who knows? Got beat soundly by a top 2A team. Not exactly one of their best years so far. Kings: Not really a Cincy power but likely a solid team. Cooper: Just not their year. So CovCath has passed every test so far but not sure how hard the test have been so far.

Belfry with no turnovers is the top team. Belfry with multiple turnovers and Corbin with no turnovers, then Corbin wins.

They have not played deSales yet. The question was team played so far...

I would say so especially playing at Beechwood. Ryle and Kings and LexCath are quality teams also and there is not much difference between them and Beechwood really.

LaSalle has not been as good on offense as they have been in recent years. Understandable against Colerain but not against East Central. But defense has been stellar. Scott Co may struggle to get points on the board and this might not be a very offensive-minded game. Low scoring and avoid turnovers and Scott Co can be in it. Turn it over and play from behind and LaSalle will put it to them.

Oh another prediction.....better get there a little before 6 pm if you want to park anywhere close and actually want to sit down to watch the game.

Certainly the depth factor favors CovCath and I think they are a better team than Beechwood overall but strange things happen when Beechwood is at Home. Beechwood will need to be able to sustain drives and eat a little clock and keep the CovCath offense off of the field. If they can keep it close into the second half then Uncle Mo might show up. BW has beat CovCath in the past when they were the underdog. CovCath needs to have a good start and stay on top of the Tigers throughout the game and dictate the tempo throughout. They should be able to do that with all the different weapons they have on offense.

The Panthers are having a nice season. But there is that elephant in the Ft. Mitchell room to deal with.

Here is my takes-aways from the game. Corbin is good. Solid on offense and defense. Definitely a contender in 3A. Only area that really needs work is on kickoffs. You cannot kick line-drives to the 30-35 yard line and let Beechwood return them to the 45-50. Those hidden yard losses kill you against good teams. Beechwood.............well I said at the beginning of the year I would take Beechwood in 1A and let anyone else take the rest of the teams and that has not changed one bit. In fact, they are better than I thought. Can run it, can throw it. I can't fathom a 1A team that can stop this offense. Shame they are not in 2A or 3A because I fear 1A is not going to present many challenges.

Brossart should have no trouble with getting the win versus Newport tonight.
