I would estimate that the number of turf fields outnumbers the grass fields by more than we think. In NKY all have turf except Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow, Boone, Conner, Cooper, Lloyd right? Turf at BW, Highlands, CovCath, Dixie, SK, Ryle, Newport/NCC, Holmes/HC, WV, Campbell/Brossart.

With the crown on the Conner field I hope there isn't any short ball boys on the sidelines because they could drown.

That is an honest answer. I guess a coach can emphasize the positive......hey no one scored on us......and then try to eliminate the negative.....hey we need to score. As a player I would think games would be more exciting than practice in a normal setting but I wonder if the players get to the mentality of "what's the point" with a lot of ties especially in non-district non-seeding games. And that brings up the whole point of once playoffs start and games go to PKs then games are decided by something that does not occur in the regular season.

Not really. First, they are at best the 4th best team and maybe lower. Second, when Highlands was winning 10 straight titles or whatever there was not a whole lot behind them in NKY other than good small class teams Beechwood and NCC. NKY 6A was a mess and losing games regularly to smaller schools. CovCath was getting routed by Highlands every year. About every 10 years Dixie or SK had a decent team that would be capable of losing by 50 to a Louisville team.

Not meant in jest. But you would be qualified to answer the question. How do the players feel after 5 ties and being in 4 0-0 games? Are they satisfied with a 0-0 game against a really good opponent or would they rather lose 4-3 in an exciting back and forth game? What about a tie against a team they outplayed? How do the coaches coach? You did not win but you did not lose. So do you try and shake things up or try to maintain? How do fans feel? I watched one tie in football back in the 70s and thought it felt like a loss for both teams.

Ryle Girls are 2-1-5 and 4 of those ties were 0-0. At what point do ties start to wear on a team and their fans?

Probably a good idea to move it since Bellevue's field can get real swampy real fast and no one wants to see what should be a high scoring game to turn into a mudfest.

Very dependent on one player right now which is always dangerous. 372 of 407 rushing yards and 317 of 355 passing yards is outstanding production but you have to think it would help to become less dependent on one player who is also one of the top tacklers on defense. But you do what you can to win games in 1A. Of course there is that giant roadblock in the District so......

Horse hockey. People (and Brossart) want them to earn their way on any list by beating good competition and they just have not done that yet this year. I would say they certainly deserve more votes than Holy Cross based on the play of the two teams so far this year. How any coach could have Holy Cross in the Top 10 based on their performance so far this year is beyond me. As for Brossart and the teams listed behind them the simple question is what would they have done if they switched schedules with those teams? If you think they would have done better then they should be ranked over those teams. If you think they would have done worse then they do not deserve to be.

Dayton has a female kicker this year.

Still think it is Beechwood and everyone else. But we shall see.

Forgot to mention that Lloyd is better than Brossart at 10 and Ludlow and Holy Cross and Walton Verona might be also.

Agree that Highlands is a tad high and should be behind Beechwood. Not much room for Scott to move up from 9 since NCC is 7 and I think that is accurate. Dixie and Cooper much better than Brossart. How can Holy Cross with two running clocks against them in first half still get 3 votes?

Once again I would take Beechwood in 1A against all the others. Lloyd is not a pushover and Beechwood is only going to get better as the year goes on.

Good for the Cats. Wins will be hard to come by this year but good to get one early on.

Well the first thing Cooper needs to do is clean up the punting game. Good grief the first two snaps rolled back to the punter and rolled is being generous. Then when they did manage a good snap the "rugby" style punts went nowhere. I am going to estimate the punting average was 15 yards maybe. I believe one went 5 or less. Long may have been 20 and that was because the officials had no clue where it went out of bounds because it was so far out of bounds. Give Cooper a decent punt game and this one would have been a lot closer. NCC kicker does the rugby punt too but it actually works and results in 35 yard punts with no return. Cooper OLs/DLs lines are not bad. Maybe not 6A quality yet but room for growth. They have some speed in the backfield and actually threw the ball decently. Again room for growth. RBs run hard and are elusive and tough to bring down. NCC is improving and that is all you can ask for right now especially against a 6A team. Offense once again got better as the game went on. And playing two QBs is getting it done although the offense moves better when the threat of the deep ball is there and you only get that with one of the QBs who threw some very nice deep balls. Both QBs also play as twin safeties so playing both makes sense. NCC defense bent but did not break and almost did not give up a score as the lone TD was barely in and they had a chance to stop the receiver short. Good pressure on the QB and seemed like every Cooper run was either for a first down or a minus 1 yard. And you can't ask more from the FG kicker who was perfect. Interesting games coming up for the Breds. Schedule turns real tough and if they can show more improvement in those games they may be a legit top 2A team before it is all done with.

Because WV ended the season last year with a very good effort in a game they basically should have won vs Holy Cross who eventually lost to Danville. Win that one and maybe they knock off NCC and make a deep run. This year they seem to be pretty balanced and I think they could end up being the best 2A team in NKY.

You just never know what you are going to get out of Holmes but they are usually better early in the year than late. So could be a good one.............could be a route either way.

Elder and Moeller both have two teams so each St. X team plays one of the Moeller and Elder teams. The "other" St. X Frosh team is playing LaSalle, Colerain, Indy Cathedral, Winton Woods, Lebanon and Anderson. The White team is playing CovCath, Kings, Edgewood, and East Central.
