This is the first ever match-up between the two schools. It will be the re-opening of Tom Ellis Field, so there will be a lot of excitement in the air. Brossart is coming off a win vs Dayton and this will be Holmes first game of the 2017 season. Who wins and why?

I'm hoping the MacDonald to Donnelly combination is in full force on Friday and a force this whole season!

Good luck Mustangs!

You just never know what you are going to get out of Holmes but they are usually better early in the year than late.

So could be a good one.............could be a route either way.

Holmes is 4A but didn't win a 4A game a year ago, going 3-7. They won three games - They beat Paris 47-19, and Bellevue 32-7, both common opponents with the Mustangs, and also trounced Newport 52-14 who the Mustangs did not play.

They have 42 players listed on their roster, with 11 of those being freshmen and 8 seniors.

Brossart is 1A and went 8-3 last season with losses to Cincinnati Aiken, Nicholas County, and Raceland. Against our common opponents, Brossart defeated Bellevue 13-6 early in the season when we were still finding ourselves and Paris 53-34 later on. Brossart has 34 on the roster with 6 of those being freshmen and 6 seniors.

It will be opening night for the Bulldogs in the newly renovated Tom Ellis Stadium.

This game has the feel to me of our trip to Cincinnati Aiken two years back. They too out-numbered us and out-athleted us. We had a game under our belts (a win over Dayton) and it was their opening night. Somehow we managed to come away with that one 26-22 in a game decided on the final play.

We will have to contain the run and stop the big play. They will have to stop our aerial attack.

Unless this Bulldogs squad has made great strides, in which case the Mustangs could be in trouble, there are three games that they must perceive to be winnable this season - Brossart, Holy Cross, and Newport. Bellevue and Paris are no longer on their schedule.

Let's hope for a good, clean game with no major injuries. It is an independent contest that will do both teams a world of good and help prepare us for district play later on down the road.

Game time is 7pm.

The live broadcast of the game will be carried via the BMustangs.com website.

Listen live starting at 6:45pm - index

Oh! And incidentally, it wasn't me who voted for Holmes!

Obviously its time to change my password.

I'm going to go with Brossart. I think Brossart can slow the pace of the game down to frustrate Holmes. I think opening night at a new stadium Holmes will want to do more than win, they'll want to win big. If Holmes gets behind early look for mistakes trying to catch up which will play into Coach Wiggins offense that much more. Brossart has to avoid giving up the big play on special teams allowing Holmes back in the game. Brossart's defense swarms to the ball effectively, so look for Holmes to use misdirection to open up the field.
