What did we learn in 1A after week 1?

Featured Replies

Did we find anything new out after this week? Was anyone surprised this week by any outcome of the games? What did you learn about your team this week?

Ludlow came out of no where to me.A surprise to me was Ludlow beating Bracken.

Holy Cross's offensive explosion against Valley came after a week where they were shut out by Bullitt Central. Mario Convenuto ran for some 200 yards on Friday and QB Jaren McDonald passed for nearly 200 as well. Those are some serious numbers and have to give the Cougar fans some hope and confidence heading to DeSales this weekend.

- Pikeville looked better than I expected them to. Save a couple deep turnovers that game could have been much more respectable than the Final Score indicated. Still not sure Pikeville can hang with the top teams in the Class, but to me they legitimized their Top 10 ranking

- KCD beat a very solid Walton-Verona team.If you are a KCD dan you wanted to see a little more in the 2nd Half, but you take the gritty win nonetheless.

- Harlan County isn't a household name 5A program but I thought that was a good win for Hazard, especially the way their Defense performed. Offensively I think Hazard has some timing issues and some improvement left to do on the Line.

I thought there defense played well as well. To be noted they played without senior linebacker Kade Holland. The offense should be much better this week as Bryson Parks will play and that will give hazard its deep threat and too target. Hazard also dropped several passes that hit them in the hands. It's early so plenty of time to correct it. Hopefully they can get some of the offensive lineman healthy to sure up the offense some as well.

Highlands & NCC dominated Cooper a 6A school struggling lots.

I was surprised by Frederick Douglass' domination of Tates Creek.

This is a 1A thread. Unless enrollment has gone down precipitously in some of the schools mentioned in the last couple of posts...

If people paid attention it shouldn't have been a surprise. As I said in the prediction thread Bracken bad barely beat Ludlow last year, and Ludlow was younger and less experience last year. This year Ludlow grew in numbers, had more experience, and one of the best players in NKY in Blackburn was back at qb touching the ball every play. Bracken had the hype, but Ludlow imo should have been the favorite anyways if people looked at it all before they played. Ludlow has a very good team this year. I see them getting to at least 8 wins in the regular season.
