  1. Teams qualify for the playoffs the same way they do now -- district play. Once the teams are set, use a "ranking point system" in each region to determine who plays who. So instead of the winner of District 1 playing the #4 team in District 2, they might play the #3 team in their own district in the first round, due to the "ranking point system".
  2. Travel issues in the playoffs would wind up killing your idea. Couldn't imagine the lower ranked teams (which several would be 1-9 or 2-8) potentially heading across the state to take a running clock first round loss. Now, if the rating system can be used to rank the teams in each region for the playoffs......
  3. Elijah Sindelar is the front runner. Photo finish for second place.
  4. I have to agree with the majority of the posters here. If Mayfield loses, it won't be because of "overconfidence". Williamsburg will have earned their victory. That being said, Mayfield will win, but it will be MUCH closer than last year's debacle.
  5. The Graves/Pulaski matchup Friday night looks appealing. Alas I must work, so I will have to depend on the KHSAA's coverage to watch it. None of the others really jumped off the page and piqued my interest.
  6. Johnson Central has been a better program than Belfry over the past 10 years due to head-to-head matchups. Belfry has been the more successful program than Johnson Central due to being one of the top teams in their class over the past 10 years. I look at it like this. Hypothetical situation. Let's say a 1AA college plays a 1A college every year for 10 years. The 1A school goes 10-0 in this matchup, wins a couple of conference titles and zero national championships. The 1AA school goes to the playoffs 8 years and wins 2 national titles. It is pretty clear in my mind that the 1A school is a better team, but the 1AA school is the more successful team.
  7. I agree. I understand you have a deeper understanding of Somerset and want to rank them higher; I'm waiting for this game to convince me.
  8. Just can't see Somerset moving up that high yet. They should still be @ #6. If I had my jollies...... 1) Central 2) Mason Co. 3) Belfry 4) Tilghman 5) Estill Co. 6) Somerset 7) Russellville 8) Union County 9) Breathitt Co. 10) Pike Central
  9. 7) Union County 5) Greenwood 3) Meade County 2) Breckinridge County 1) Franklin-Simpson TB) Union County
  10. Both Wickwares impressed me DF. And I like their QB. He doesn't strike me as the type who can win you a ballgame, but he won't lose you one. This is a team I will be keeping an eye on........
  11. One thing is for sure.....after their 0-3 start, Trigg will definately be battle-tested (if not battle weary). Brutal 3 game stretch to start the season.
  12. The top 4 didn't exactly play patsies, though. And on the surface, doesn't look like they played that bad, either. Seneca 47 Central 32 Danville 21 Mason County 14 Hoptown 31 Tilghman 20 Prestonburg 21 Belfry 6 Also: Franklin-Simpson 42 #6 Russellville 7 I think the top 4 represented themselves OK (on the surface). Russellville seems to be the only one of the top 6 to get truly hammered.
  13. Early on, looked to be a good game. FS went 3 and out on first possession. Russellville drove down the field, but fumbled inside the 5 and returned by FS for a TD. Next play after the kickoff, Russellville has a TD pass called back (ineligible man downfield). FS took advantage, scoring 21 more points to take 28-0 lead. Russellville scored right before the half to make it 28-7, but once QB Quarles started cramping in the 3rd, it was over. #5 RB Whitmere for FS looked good, carrying 11 times for 106 and 2 TD's. #4 WR Whitmere (related?) had TD run and reception, plus 2 long punt returns. Overall, FS looked pretty good. Russellville struggled after their first drive of the game. They are starting several freshman and sophmores, but still didn't play horrible. They really do need to work on tackling, however. They gave up 21 points due to poor tackling.
  14. Along with #6 Russellville......
  15. Thanks. :thumb:
  16. So you can only buy individual game tickets? No "Six Pack" available? That stinks. BTW, how much are the single game tickets?
  17. I'll have to disagree. Union wasn't too bad; Russellville was a quality opponent. Tilghman was a mess early in the season. They are playing good ball right now. I do agree that 3A is weak on this end of the state, but that isn't reason Tilghman has made it this far.
  18. Good ballgame. Turnovers played a big part in deciding the outcome. PT only turnover came in the first quarter. Pinned inside their 5 after a R'ville punt, QB fumbles. R'ville recovers at 7 and scores two plays later. The Panthers scored again with 10:47 left in the half to lead 14-0. PT scored on a 51 yard pass play (great pass from #15) to make it 14-7 at the half. R'ville got the ball first in the 2nd half. Assisted by a PT unsportsmanlike on 3rd and 19, they drove inside PT's 20. On 3rd down, Quarles rolls out, scrambles around and throws an ill-advised duck over the middle of the field that PT picks off. The Panthers ate up 8:19 on that drive and got nothing. Tilghman scores off this turnover and ties it at 14 with 10:22 to go. After both teams trade punts, R'ville has a 3rd and 3 with about 5 minutes to go. Quarles pitches, RB fumbles and Tilghman returns it for a TD. R'ville goes 3 and out on next possesion, punts 8 yards, PT gets a few first downs and runs out the clock. There is one thing I didn't understand though...........On R'ville's opening drive of 2nd half, they had a 3rd and 29. They run for a short gain, but PT is flagged for a 5 yard incidental facemask. After the penalty is tacked on, it is now 3rd and 19. Shouldn't the down advanced and it been 4th and 19? The next play is when Tilghman's sideline was assessed the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to keep the Panthers drive alive. My feeling was that they were disputing the same thing. Maybe someone can help me here. Good luck to the Blue Tornado next week.
  19. This one is shaping up to be an entertaining ballgame. I'll take Russellville at home in a close one.
  20. The only possible upset would be Bellevue beating Beechwood. I really don't see it happening, but they have the best chance of the 4 underdogs. Mayfield and LCA win going away. Hazard will win, but it will be a little closer.
  21. Not much to this game. Russellville took the opening kickoff to Butler's 5 and scored on the next play. Butler tied it at 7, then Russellville scored 21 unanswered to end the half. A couple of TD's in the 3rd closed the door. Butler had 5 TO's if I remember correctly (4 INT's and 1 fumble). 2 INT's in the 3rd led to TD's. The Panthers used several big plays to open this one up. If Tilghman can't stop those big plays, Russellville should cruise into the semis.
  22. 1) Mike Bush, Male 2) Curtis Pulley, Hopkinsville 3) Derek Smith, Highlands
  23. The Tobacco/Heritage Festival is this weekend. In the past, Russellville would play a game on Saturday afternoon. For some reason, they quit. Now Myers has brought it back.
  24. I liked Scott Brown calling Trigg County games on WKDZ in the early part of this century. He called the game and kept stats; never missed a beat. He gets my vote. :thumb:
