Me? I think that Fort Campbell takes this one. I thought that the playoff game against Trigg County was going to be close.....and it was for a bit. But then the Fort Campbell Falcons opened up the skies......playing much differently than anyone had ever seen.

 

I know that last week is in the books (along with last years 47-0 beating in the second round of the playoffs) and it's a new week ahead. With that said, I'll have to agree with The Scribe (a guy that's seen both Fort Campbell & Murray beat Trigg - ref post #6) and say that Murray doesn't come within 30 points of Fort Campbell.

 

Falcons will advance to the Semi-Finals by beating Murray 42-7.

Good season for Murray High, but not at the level of Fort Campbell!

I think Ft Campbell would win 4 of 5 times against the Tigers, but, I picked this upset a few weeks ago and I'll stick with it. If Murray can play to there strength and run straight at em with a solid OL and play ball control and shorten the game, they've got a legitimate shot. They'll also need to capitalize on all opportunities given, not turn the ball over, keep the penalties at a minimum, be solid in special teams and make Ft Campbell earn there scores by limiting the big plays.

There are only three teams in the state (regardless of class) who have held their opponents to under 100 points for the year. Boyle County is one. The other two are Fort Campbell and Murray. This last week against Trigg, the Falcons showed that they can use the air attack against an opponent just as as well as they have used the running game this year; special teams filled in all of the gaps. This team is to versatile on both sides of the ball for Murray to take care of, but will not be a cake walk for the Falcons either.

 

I think this one will be a little closer than most of them and Murry is the first Kentucky School to score 10 or more points against the Falcons:

Trigg ran 60 plays, had the ball 30 minutes, and had 229 total yards.

 

Fort Campbell ran 45 plays, had the ball 18 minutes and had 304 yards.

Ft Campbell wins by 30+. Even if Murray plays mistake free ball. If Murray doesn't play a great game. It will be 40+.

Notice I also said convert there opportunities and get a few breaks also. No, Trigg isn't Murray, but, they are similar. I do think Murray's defense is a notch or 2 better and will be able to get a couple of more stops that Trigg couldn't and Murray's offense is considerably better.

 

Interesting notes:

 

1) 4 Common opponents... Avg margin of victory vs the 4.

Murray 40-3 Ft Campbell 59-5

 

2) Shutouts - Murray 5 Ft Campbell 4

 

3) Murray has given up a total of 20 pts in last 7 games.

 

None of this really means much because both teams have had mainly cake walks all year and played alot of JV in 2nd halfs of most games. I think it comes down to Speed vs Power. Murray's not faced a team even in the same league of Ft Campbell and they'll be shell shocked at the Falcons speed on defense and how they pursue and close off gaps. Murray brings a huge OL to the game with big power backs that wear defenses down throughout a game. If Murray wants to advance, they'll have run the ball between the tackles and stay on there blocks and on defense, stay at home and try and elimate the big play capability of the Falcons and if Ft Campbell wants to advance, they'll have to keep the Tigers off balance with the run and pass and on defense, make Murray beat you through the air by stacking the box. Just my .02 cents worth.

Massey puts Fort Campbell's schedule as fifth toughest in Class 2A. It puts Murray at 20th toughest out of 33 teams

FC comes out quick...and never looks back. Falcons take this one 48-7!!!

I understand that Murray has big and powerful lineman, but I will take speed anytime over size! IMO FC has more speed than any team in 2a, and speed wins ball games. Just a little reference to last year, but NCC was huge and a not as quick FC dominated them....food for thought!!!

Agree speed is the key if you cannot catch them you cannot tackle them. For Murray to beat Fort Campbell they need to be a top ten team in state just do not think thet are that good. As Monroe Co. fan good luck to the other Falcons and hope to see you on 27TH of November.

I just dont think Murray is as good as advertised.
