^ I agree. Their schedule is underwhelming and they haven't seen the speed Fort Campbell brings to the table.

Speed kills! In years past everyone wanted big lines and big fullbacks. I've watched over the years things change to lean, more muscular and speedy kids. The teams that haven't eveloved as fast do well in the district for the most part. But when the bigger and slower teams get to the regionals and semi's they can't compete as well. Size matters. Only when you play the same type teams. Big and not so fast. Football is all about angles. If you are a blocker and you are lean mean and strong you will be a step faster at making that block to the left, right, out on the edges ect. I bet the Falcons are lean, mean and full of speed.

...they haven't seen the speed Fort Campbell brings to the table.

Ther are still some out there that do not know that many of the football players are many of the same young ment that won the state title in track last year.

I understand that Murray has big and powerful lineman, but I will take speed anytime over size! IMO FC has more speed than any team in 2a, and speed wins ball games. Just a little reference to last year, but NCC was huge and a not as quick FC dominated them....food for thought!!!

Go Falcons!!!!!:jump:

Murray has pretty good team speed ... it is possible to have that and a big, strong offensive line. Most of Murray's speed shows up on the defensive side.

And where did you get the notion that Fort Campbell "dominated" Newport Catholic last year? The Falcons came from behind to win 26-23 on an Andrews run late in the fourth quarter.

Turnovers. If Murray can go plus-3 or plus-4 in the category and get some short-field drives, Murray has a good chance to win the game.

I think most know this.

I don't think this is the case, I listened to that game on the internet...in agony while deployed last year. It certainly didn't sound like Fort Campbell dominated NCC.

With that said, I think that it's Fort Campbell's speed that takes this game. I understand that Murray has some speed as well, and even in big guys but I just don't think that it'll be enough. I think that once Fort Campbell gets rolling against Murray, they're gonna be awfully hard to stop.

On a side note, while FC did win the Track & Field state title, this doesn't really concern me much. There's track speed and there's football speed.

I was there and I would have to agree that FC did not dominate NCC in the championship game, it was a good close game. I do not htink that either team dominated the other.

P.S. Andrews did not score on a run in the fourth to get the win, it was a pass reception.

Bill, I do agree that there is a difference, I was using that to highlight how fast the Falcons can be.

True, the Falcons are fast and that speed can get a lot of teams in trouble.

You are 100% correct, I apoligize for this mistake. I am not quite sure what I was thinking. :ohbrother:

I think when you compare Murray and Fort Campbell about the only area where Murray has a distinct advantage is in size. Fort Campbell on the other hand has a number of weapons on offensive that makes it very hard for teams to defend. As demonstrated against Trigg and to a lesser extent against Caldwell, they can use the passing game to score just as effectively as they have all season running the ball. Each team has rushed for 3000 plus yards and given up roughly 1000 plus. However, Murray has only passed for 400 plus yards, while Fort Campbell has almost 1500 yards through the air.

Defensively, I also believe Fort Campbell has the advantage because of the speed of their LBs/DBs and they way they converge to the ball. Statistically each team appears to be close in yards and points allowed. However, Fort Campbell has faced a bit harder competition and the last 28 points scored against them were late in the game with many of the starting defense on the sidelines.

In the special teams game I also believe Fort Campbell has an advantage. Their kickoff coverage is very good and their kickoff/punt return game is dangerous. The one area where Murray might have an advantage is field goals.

This will be the first Regional Championship game that Fort Campbell has played away this decade.

Fort Campbell is very good against the run. Even against Trigg (big OL, big RB) they bent, but didn’t break. Fort Campbell can score quickly and often, IMO a ball control run orientated offense is not going to beat Fort Campbell.

My prediction is:

Fort Campbell 49

Murray 13

Common Opponents:

Trigg County -

FC-41/TC-7 | M-17/TC-0

Todd County Central -

FC-78/TCC-0 | M-77/TCC-0

Caldwell County -

FC-56/CC-7 | M-20/CC-6

Fort Campbell outscoring common opponents 134-14.

Murray outscoring common opponents 114-6.

Interesting Stats:

Fort Campbell scored 128 more points this season than Murray and has allowed 11 less points than Murray.

Murray's opponents have an overall record of 39-61, with only two of them finishing the season with winning records, one of them being a 1A team.

Fort Campbell's opponents have an overall record of 35-65, also with only two of them finishing the season with winning records, but never playing down in class.

Rankings:

BGP:

Fort Campbell - 1

Murray - 8

Max Preps:

Fort Campbell - National: 682 | State: 12

Murray - National: 2981 | State: 45

Are they playing this at Murray High School or Murray State University? If they are playing at Murray High School, is the field next to the school (I don’t see a football field on Google Maps or MapQuest) and is their seating on the visitor side?

The stadium is located at the Middle School near the downtown area. And yes, there is visitor seating at Murray.
