Belfry is one example of why this wishbone and similar offenses can work. By the guys on the field they shouldn't be competitive athletically with Central but the offense they run gives them a chance. Talent ands thing schemes to personnel strengths are keys to good offensive football at the high school level IMO.

I would agree with this. Depth is needed to play teams like Highlands and two platooning would definitely help. At the end of the day I still say that talent is more important than system. If Ashland had the guys Trinity has had they'd win it all with any offense they wanted.

All offensive systems can succeed. It's all about the Jimmy's and Joe's.

I would imagine the Rams are one of the favorites to be playing in Bowling Green.

Race land will be very good. I'd try to name a player or two but they have a lot of guys worth mentioning. Can be as good as they want to be.

Saw big Nevin a few weeks ago at the weight meet. Hope he can find a school he likes.

This is crap. Good lord lets turn into another soccer country already. Football is no more dangerous than alot of other activities kids do. The same parents who do not allow their children to play football should buy their kids slow cars, prevent them from riding four wheelers and dirt bikes, only allow their children to swim in shallow pools, and home school their children. All of which are more dangerous than playing a sport.

I really like the Lewis County Coaching staff. Really classy guys, and I think their kids play extremely hard for them. They had some strong kids at the weight meet a few weeks back. They'll challenge for a playoff spot and seeding.

Good for Maze. I hope he continues to do this.

Also, if a 1-9 team makes the playoffs, is excited to be there, and get humiliated by a state power who really suffers? I can remember trips that West Carter has made to Belfry in which the kids were just excited to have earned a playoff birth which hasn't happened but once or twice in school history. State powers get a chance to work on things and get players playoff experience. Players that have worked hard all year, for their entire careers. Focus on the kids and not the inconvenience of going to a game that will likely be a blowout. As for coaches who don't like one sport running into their season, it is a reality now days. Most sports are year round commitments. There are a lot worse things our athletes could be doing.

I just don't see how cutting the number of games in any sport helps the kids. They get four years to play, in many cases only one or two years of varsity. Shouldn't we try to get them all the games we can? As for reducing the playoffs in football it would help from a competition standpoint possibly because teams would have to improve to make the playoffs. But I think you could argue now that football in the state of Kentucky is improving. More teams making the playoffs leads to longer tenure for coaches. There are a lot of good coaches in Kentucky, many of whom need time to build their programs, if the current system helps with that I'm for it. Kids need continuity if the relationships around them are positive. In my area two of the most improved programs are Lewis County and Bath County. I'd argue that the current class system and alignment has helped both programs. Experiencing success has lead to increased numbers at both schools. If two teams making the playoffs was the correct answer then why wasn't football as a whole as good in Kentucky in the past? Leave it for a while longer and see what happens. The only thing I'd change is I'd try to eliminate four team district so every team has earned their playoff appearance on the field. May have to go to give classes to make it work but that would be an improvement.

Good staff and it seemed like they had a lot of younger kids out last year with their job and freshmen. Bath will play hard, I would guess they will still be competitive in their district and the area.

He's a walk-on QB do you think he expects immediate playing time? I'm sure he'll go there, play as hard as he can and if he's good enough he'll make it on to the field. It's a great experience for this kid even if he never takes a snap.

As a football coach I'll say that I don't necessarily like this. Not all championships are equal. The Sweet Sixteen trophy is THE trophy in the state of Kentucky. For kids in this state it might as well be a Heisman or an Emmy.

I think it really only helps in terms of kids being physically and mentally ready early in their high school years. I think the advantages of a senior that had been held back previously are a little overblown. Not too much difference physically or mentally in an18 or 19 year old in my opinion.

Why? The state tourney is 4 games in 3-4 days with two games in one day.

Very true and there is no good answer. In a strong economy more money is available but district funds are tight and it's tough for them create jobs the way they used to. With no real solutions I think it is best for coaches to be certified in as many positions as possible with their masters and rank 1 degrees so there are more opportunities out there. Or get certified in math:D.

We run it but its still a work in progress. There weren't too many teams in our area that ran a lot of zone blocking schemes that we played against. I would guess Raceland was the best in NEKY for the small schools.

I don't believe it. If you build a girl's program from the ground up you can have success, same as any sport. Large enrollment a help but look at what West Carter built in the late 90s and early 2000s. Not a big school by any stretch of the imagination. I know that was a decade ago but I don't think the game has changed that much. They had a program. Same system with great coaching at all levels. May have to specialize in only/mainly basketball but it can be done.

Our kickers enjoyed the Ray Guy camp. I thought we had the best place kicker in the area this year and his brother already has a better leg. They give them drills they can use and I think it's money we'll spent. PM me and I'll try to get a better scoop for you from how our guys felt about it.

Congrats to Morgan. The curse of the stolen West Carter District home court advantage has been broken.

Not only that, it would be the first time Morgan has made it out of the 62nd District tournament. Their first year in the 62nd they were the regional favorite, and we (I went to West Carter) beat them in their gym. Haven't made it out of the district since.
