Prediction ...

Coming soon, before being allowed to play, every football player's parents will have to sign a statement saying they realize a football helmet will not prevent serious head injuries.

Actually coming soon I see many many kids not playing football. Not meaning those that are already playing, but parents of kids not starting them in football.

And schools dropping programs!

Unfortunately, I think you are right. Then again, I don't know. Football lovers are just that...they love the game. They know the dangers with it just like, well, everything else in life. However, many of those kids who sit on the fence when it comes to football will probably opt to not play.

I'm sorry, and I don't say this to sound disrespectful, but is this not the same as finding Budweiser negligent for a person who gets tanked, gets behind the wheel and seriously injures theirself? Or possibly even trying to find fault in the car company?

I personally just don't see football going away. If it does; then, every food, drug (granted, they do warn you about side effects) , automobile, etc. company out there better get ready for a ride of their own.

This is a very bad sign for the future of the sport. As with a lot of other things they come or go with the cost of liability insurance.

Random here, somewhat, but I know a high school who has had more concussions due to basketball (3) the past two years than football(2). Granted, that's not newsworthy to the general public.

Definitely not good for the sport. I've been involved with football my entire life coaching and playing. I keep seeing numbers slowly drop, and have talked to more and more parents who just aren't willing to let their kids play because of rising coverage on the dangers. I've got two boys that play, and I can't say I don't think about it. If less kids are playing, it's not good for the future of the sport. It does generate big money, but if numbers keep dropping, the number of fans will drop too.

They're deemed responsible for about a quarter of the claim but the family's lawyer wants them to pay the entire claim? This type of thing just ticks me off. I'm aware of the deep pockets syndrome but if they're ruled 27% responsible that should be the limit of their loss. End of story.

In the case of Ridolfi, a jury in Colorado said he is entitled to $11.5 million in damages for his injuries, and that Riddell is 27 percent responsible, so Riddell will have to pay $3.1 million of the damages. The rest of the damages are largely symbolic, as those damages were awarded against Ridolfi’s coaches, who have immunity as government employees and will not have to pay the damages.

The jury in Ridolfi’s lawsuit did not find that Riddell’s helmets are defective but did find that Riddell didn’t properly warn the players who wear its helmets of the risks associated with brain injuries in football.

Lawyer says Riddell is ?in very serious trouble? after lawsuit | ProFootballTalk

Someone has to pay...

A couple of the comments:

The whole world is in trouble, thanks to greedy people and ruthless lawyers.

True Americans. If you shake someone’s hand to hard they will b suing you

Reddell didn't properly warn him? How did they come to that conclusion? All helmets have the warning on them.

Pretty sure they were sued in the 80s by a family over in EKY.
