Well, let's see Coop . . .Public School system with a history of accusatory actions toward a private school . . . a private school suddenly looking like the innocent party . . .a dad who is an attorney . . . hhhmmmmmmmmm. I believe you are 100% correct. Also like Bluegrass said, why no consideration here for the 17 years? I know Herb and he has indeed put alot of sweat equity into that program and that facility. There's got to be alot of information not being released here.

I'm so happy that I don't qualify under the "most" category!! We 70's era players, despite the heavy cotton uniforms, the 40-ounce wooden rolling pins we used as bats and the "dead" baseballs, still managed to put together a pretty respectable game. And by the way Coop, I've seen ya', "young" and "modern" are not two words that readily come to mind!!! :lol:

I truly hope that anything "Pre-1980" really isn't considered not modern day. So with that in mind how about a few of these? Absolutely could not agree more with you LN. Archaic thinking is what pagues our sports programs whether it be in Frankfort or in the stands (especially in the stands). While Brigid had her faults, as EVERY leader does, she did a decent enough job to warrant holding the position for the many years she did.

This "dissatisfaction" over style of play is the same garbage we're now hearing about the Holmes team. Not every team can play an uptempo, up and down the floor style of basketball. And, here's a news flash for some of you, high school basketball isn't about the fans!! You devise a system, an offensive strategy and a defensive game plan that suits your personnel, not the other way around. Coach Goetz and Coach Henley are two of the best around the Ninth Region and I'm quite sure they know the capabilities of their personnel, the character of their players and their performances in practice. None of which, it appears, is information some of our posters seem to have acquired. Basketball is a game of strategy as much as a game of athleticism. If you don't have comparable athletes, you make a plan to offset that. It just tickles me to no end to read where someone says a team lacks decent point play and ball handling then in the same breath wants that same team to play uptempo. Hello? Holy Cross is bringing the game to them, to their ability to compete with bigger, faster, more athletic teams. Heck of a good move if you ask me.

People (anonymously I must point out) casting aspersions on a coach and a team without any knowledge whatsoever as to the circumstances of an event. For whatever reason Coach Eckstein had for keeping Ricky in the game I GUARANTEE you that it was honorable and thought through. Coach is one of the good guys and has taken more than his share or beat downs, enough to know what it's like to be on the receiving end and I assure you that it was not his intention to administer one to the Wildcats team. I'll take Coach Eckstein and his program and ethics on the field any day. There is a definite difference be yween being a wanna be coach and a real one.

As far as high school sports goes it is obviously appropriate for all of the stated reasons above. Couldn't agree more. As far as college and pro ranks, I think some of you might want to examine the whole marketing of those teams before making such drastic statements. Everything about the marketing of college and pro sports programs screams "Come! Be one of us. Buy our stuff. Be one of our team." There fore it is only natural and expected that those "fans" feel an attachment to the team, a "we" feeling if you will. Seems to me a guy said it best in the movie Close Encounters . . . "they were invited." And what's the harm really? You don't like it just because you don't like it. Just because they didn't play the game? Does that exclude women form being "fans" of all pro sports excluding the WNBA? Geez, lighten up, there's tennis to be played and Golf to be played. You're not from Cleveland are you? The whole idea of professional and collegiate sports is to identify with the brand. You don't have to be a graduate of or an employee or former player from the place to share that brand identity. I love UK and WE will go off into the sunset together where peace and prosperity reign and national championship banners are hung with regularity. I love the Bengals and WE will share nothing but pain and agony in our relationship.

I had the priviledge to get to know Coach Leddington during his years with the London Hummers and he was always a classy and enthusiastic baseball guy. What a great hire for the good folks at Corbin. I wish Rob much success.

I'd like to know how int he world Hunter Jones can be left off this list completely. DII POY, Junior all-star game representative, his stats are more than solid and legit. This is a joke.

Not my interpretation, just telling how it is enforced and called on a daily basis. I know we agree on the reason for the rule and I know we agree on the facts surrounding the rule. I just know how the umpires in this region make that call vesus how some in other regions might make the same call. And you're right, umpires shouldn't get to choose how or what, but the facts of the matter are, they do. As you saw last night. Umpiring is a tough "art" when it comes to stuff like this. Inhibiting play is as big a problem as making sure the rules are followed. In this particular case, I believe the umpire made a good decision. I've had a run-in or two in my day, but I believe in giving credit where due as well.

Again, while your reading of the rule is correct absolutely, the interpretation is left to the umpire. You are also absolutely correct in that it is a safety issue. However, seldom is there an "exactness" to a rule involving players in motion. Ala, the leeway given by virtually any umpire in such a situation as this one. As long as the player is making a "baseball play" such as a clean attempt to break up the double play, I don't know an umpire worth his salt that would make the call you suggest. Have I seen it both ways? Yes indeed. Are you correct in your reading of the rule? Yes indeed. Is it ever usually called the way you suggest? Almost never. And in this case, good clean, hard nosed baseball. Solid no-call by the umpire. And, as you state, no impact on the game. And wow, what a game!

Excellent question and one that should be asked. The spirit of the rule is to prevent injuries to defensive players by runners making no obvious attmpt to go into the base, only to "take out" the defensive player. The DOES NOT mean that the runner is prevented from breaking up the double play. He must be able to REASONABLY tag the bag without alot of effort. From the picture I see, the ump made the right call.
