Bryan Station 39 Cov Holy Cross 21

Featured Replies

Wow !!!

Holy Cross scores 21 points and 17 of them come from Sophomore Jake Burger. Where is Cory Sorrell when they need him?

Bryan Station 2 12 10 15 39

Lloyd Memorial Holiday Tournament

Cov. Holy Cross -- Broering 2, Burger 17, Arlinghaus 1, Fuller 1.

Bryan Station -- Demus 6, Fain 15, Barner 4, Evans 7, Smothers 2, Renfro 3, Jones 2.

Perhaps Bryan Station is not as good as I had thought. Who is up next for them?

Winner of Conner/North Laurel. Game will be played tomorrow night at 6:15 before the Holmes/Newport game.

Winners of those two games advance to the finals.

As far as Bryan Station, they weren't as good as I expected either. I stayed and watched some of the first half of this game and they lack fundamentals adn discipline big time.

They looked like they were playing street ball more than running an offense. Bryan Station is VERY athletic though and has some nice size.

Wow...I just noticed that Holy Cross didn't score at all in the fourth quarter.

I guess they used the same strategy in the 4th as they did the first...run a motion/weave offense and hope that you catch Bryan Station out of position to get a clear shot.

Bryan Station had a HUGE size advantage over HC.

Holy Cross is averaging about 45 points a game after averaging about 47 points a game last year. The last few games I have seen them play against Holmes over the past few years were brutal to watch.

My mistake...Bryan Station will play Conner tonight at 9:45, not 6:15.

What Holy Cross fans remain have to be pulling their hair out watching the style of ball that they now play on a regular basis. I know I would have stopped watching it a long time ago. You have to believe that they have better athletes than the scores indicate. They have set basketball back 60 years with these scores imo.

This is not a very athletic bunch nor are they very big. They will have to win with execution.

Holy Cross starting line up last night was:

6'0, 6'0, 6'0, 6'1, 6'4

Compared to Bryan Station:

5'11, 6'1, 6'6, 6'6, 6'11

Its not just height. They're scrappy hard-working kids who aren't blessed with a lot of hops or quickness.Add in inexperienced as well. Goetz , my guess, is trying to adapt to that.

This "dissatisfaction" over style of play is the same garbage we're now hearing about the Holmes team. Not every team can play an uptempo, up and down the floor style of basketball. And, here's a news flash for some of you, high school basketball isn't about the fans!! You devise a system, an offensive strategy and a defensive game plan that suits your personnel, not the other way around. Coach Goetz and Coach Henley are two of the best around the Ninth Region and I'm quite sure they know the capabilities of their personnel, the character of their players and their performances in practice. None of which, it appears, is information some of our posters seem to have acquired. Basketball is a game of strategy as much as a game of athleticism. If you don't have comparable athletes, you make a plan to offset that. It just tickles me to no end to read where someone says a team lacks decent point play and ball handling then in the same breath wants that same team to play uptempo. Hello? Holy Cross is bringing the game to them, to their ability to compete with bigger, faster, more athletic teams. Heck of a good move if you ask me.

HC is doing the best they can with what they have. The best thing Goetz can do is keep playing the younger kids and try to get them as much varsity experience as possible cuz Corey aint coming back. I am a fan of basketball period so it doesn't matter if a team runs and guns or sets up a halfcourt offense. I just don't like it when teams play stall ball.

They're definetly a scrappy bunch. HC out rebounded Bryan Station in the first quarter from simply getting position and boxing out. Several over the back calls were made.

I'm with you there.

Not sure I will give you Goetz as one of the top coaches in the Ninth Region. Why aren't the athletes coming out for basketball at Holy Cross? Too small of a school to not have some of your better athletes and players who play until their soph and junior year not come out.
