Nice season for Holmes. Should definitely be favored over East Jessamine in the first round. Could be a very good second round matchup in Covington against Lexington Catholic.

I don't know Coach Lickert well (we were in graduate school together at UK) but from what I did know of him, you could tell he had potential to be a really good coach. When he was an assistant at Woodford everyone spoke highly of him, and the results at Dayton and Holmes certainly speak for themselves.

 

Congratulations to Steven and all of the Holmes Bulldogs. Good luck next week with East Jessamine. Holmes looking for their first playoff win since shutting out Montgomery County in 2001.

I heard HC's starting QB was on crutches in the second half. Anyone at the game know what happened? This is a big hit for HC because he even though he is a soph., he is the starting QB, Punter, and Place Kicker.

Congrats to Coach Lickert and staff on quite a milestone at Covington Holmes. This is the first outright district title in a very very long time. They will be digging through the record books this week.

The last time Holmes tied for a district crown was in 1978, when they finished the year at 6-4 and tied Boone County for the district title. They lost the tiebreak through the old Dickinson Ratings.

You probably have to go back into the 1950's or 40's if not earlier to find when they last won a district outright.

Impressive feat for the Dogs. As much as they have changed their fortunes on the field, they are still trying to change the culture around the program and it doesn't happen overnight.

I'd guess that prior to 78 it might have been about 60 or 61 when Holmes last had a really great team. I think they had a guy named Ron Bird. It was either him or another guy from that era that went onto play for Alabama if my memory is correct.

 

So, its been a LOOOOONNNG time.

Okay that makes sense . Since it is an odd numbered year if they beat LC they will have Boyle at home as well.
