  2. What's the bigger statement ... Is Cooper that good, or Highlands that far away?

  4. How can there be Academic issues, if school hasn't started?
  5. Tell us a bit about the Mustangs. Would love to hear who is playing and what the expectations are!
  6. The Enquirer reported the following results, at Hickory Sticks August 4: 1. St. Henry 322 2. Bishop Brossart 328 3. Covington Catholic 332 4. Holy Cross 342 5. Newport Central Catholic 360 Individuals: Medalist: Nolan Schrand (Holy Cross) 75 (+4) Others: Berling (St. Henry) 77, Duggan (St. Henry) 77 Congrats to the Cru. Earlier, I read that CovCath was Regional contender with Ryle the top dog. Did CovCath send a split squad, or have players missing? Anyone have any additional details?
  7. Do you realize how silly you are sounding? As someone previously mentioned, Brossart has NOTHING ... not one outdoor athletic field. And somehow is able to field boys & girls XCountry, boys & girls soccer, boys & girls track, baseball, softball and football, through partnership with local parks and recreational facilities (not to mention school parking lots). Be thankful for what you have, and figure out a way to make it work.
  8. This thread is making me dizzy ... back to the football aspect ... can anyone tell me how Brossart looked? Based on the schedule (Grant Co, Highlands (A), Owen Co, Ryle (B)), it looks like they competed against some quality squads. I know there weren't any pads, and a football game is often won in the trenches, but how did the skill players for Brossart look? And how do they project against their new 1A schedule?
  9. I'd be curious to know how many of those seniors that are not playing, began playing for their respective high school as a 7th or 8th grader. I contend that the thrill of playing high school sports is diluted by the time kids are juniors and seniors, because they've already played 4-5 years.
  10. soccerrama 8/14 and 8/15 at Boone county? Really? Boone County?
  11. And to think, they were three outs from elimination in the District semi-final, when Mann went yard against Brossart to force extra innings. You just never know ... Congrats to the Eagles. Enjoy the ride.
  12. For the uninitiated, where specifically is the Birdcage?
  13. smh ... you can never convince me this is the right thing to do.
  14. What was the injury, and what is the prognosis, to the best of your knowledge? Best of luck to Mr. Kenkel.
  15. You're so off base (pun intended) on this one, it's not funny. The umpire is the authority figure (just like the parent, police officer, teacher, clergy, etc.), and respect should be given on that basis alone. You have to remember, that the majority of decisions an umpire/referee makes are judgement calls. If they misinterpret a rule, you have every right to question the call. But if you disagree with their judgement (ball/strike, safe/out, fair/foul), you have to respect that.
  16. Honestly, I can't imagine why anyone would want to be an official, and I LOVE THE GAME. I've had many people tell me I would make a good official .. I played, coached, and know the rule book fairly well .. but I have no intention of trying for one reason: the idiots in the stands. If I only had to deal with the players and the coaches, I'd do it for free. But the inane, vehement comments that come out of people's mouths directed at officials based on a $5 admission borderlines on barbaric. And the majority of the time, the comments are simply wrong ... people don't know the intricacies of the actual rules. Here's a suggestion: most schools conduct a pre-season "meet the team" night, where there's typically intra-squad games being played. As part of that evening, have some officials show up, give them a microphone, and have them explain some of the most common misconceptions of the game. -explain verticality (Rule 4-45), and that there is no such thing as "over the back" -explain to everyone EXACTLY what Legal Guarding Position is. Use players to demonstrate when LGP begins, when it breaks off, how an offensive player can be legally guarded by two separate defenders, and the count continues. (Rule 4-10, 9-10) -explain block/charge (Rule 4-7), what a defender must do to establish position -explain over and back (how all three points must be established in frontcourt before a backcourt violation can occur) (Rule 4-4-3) -explain how, on an inbounds play, an offensive player can legally jump from frontcourt to backcourt and NOT be in violation (Rule 9-9) -explain how the TOP of the backboard is in bounds, but OVER the backboard is out (Rule 7-1-2) -I could go on .. there are many misconceptions Then, allow Q&A. In 15-20 minutes, a group of officials could educate a fan base and largely eliminate a majority of griping during a game.
  17. CVH hit a 14' jumper to give the Colonels a 51-47 lead with 2:23 in the fourth. He never attempted a shot the rest of regulation, and was held to only one shot and two FTs in OT. Owensboro did a really nice job of preventing touches, and that, coupled with Schuh's DQ was probably the difference in the outcome. Great run by the Colonels. Congrats on a great run, and best of luck to Owensboro tomorrow.
  18. Then who named the local University WKU?! Should have called it SCKU. :sarcastic:
  19. Then take my advice and STAY AWAY from the All A threads. Talk about mind-numbing .... You'll go mad.
