I feel your pain...I really do. That's a game Etown wins 9 out of 10 times. Unfortunately, the one time happened today. I'm not connected with either team. Just my observation of what I saw. Yes..Etown missed some shots. I thought the two 3s by Turner that went in and out earlier would have effectively ended the game. And the call against Turner to give Etown the lead was a bad call. A brutally difficult loss for Etown..truly a great team. It was a fantastic season with a unfortunately painful ending.

Etown was everything they were advertised to be. Loaded with talent. HC held a team AVERAGING 70 points per game to 40...outstanding. It could have been worse. Turner had several shots, including some 3s, that went halfway down then out. And I'll contend the go ahead play by Etown was a horrendous call. All in all, a tremendous accomplishment by the Crossbacks. Now, seize the opportunity, and grab that brass ring!

ETown gets a traditional 3-pt play with :22 left (questionable call, if you ask me) to take a 1-pt lead. Turner gets ball on left wing, pump fake, drives baseline, and hits about a 10-foot floater with :02 left. It danced around the rim, and went in. ETown unable to get off a shot.

Despite the slow, agonizing, disappearing act that is the daily newsprint, Marc Hardin is an absolute pro .. a throwback to what a print journalist should be. Every time I've dealt with him, he has been respectful and professional, and works diligently to be accurate. Anyone who questions his aim and expertise is off base (no pun intended). Keep up the good work Marc. :up:

If you follow Mustang on his bmustangs website, you'll find he is rather entertaining. Daily fishing reports, replete with photos of catch-of-the-day; not to mention Derby handicapping (ask him about the post-Derby pick-6 winner); throw in an occasional restaurant review (ask him how the Miamians pronounce "Italian" .. comical), as well as where to get the best Belgian waffles; throw in occasional updates on the Mustang baseball/softball/track teams. One-stop shop. A rolling stone gathers no moss .... :up:

As pb98 previously mentioned, she had 17 points, and two HUGE 4th quarter 3-point baskets. If my memory serves me correctly, she made several clutch 4th quarter FTs as well, and had the ball in her hands a lion's share of the time. She showed tremendous poise for a player her age. I was impressed. As stated, Cummins gets the publicity (and all of it well deserved), but the Lady Bears don't win that game without Ruf's contributions. A solid effort, considering the stage.

First bold...then leave it alone. It worked as intended. Second bold...you're right. It's extremely difficult, and extremely exclusive. I'm ok with that. I love the Sweet 16. However, the All A allows a subset of schools the opportunity to experience a statewide tournament .. feted upon like the KHSAA tourney, with hotel stays and post-game press conferences, etc .. that in all likelihood, is their only opportunity. Sure .. there are teams that experience both the All A and the state tournament .. but the number who DON'T, that only experience the All A, far exceeds the number that do. You need to look at the All A tournament in its totality, not the few who win it. It's still a fantastic EXPERIENCE that most will not enjoy at the KHSAA tournament (and no .. I'm not about the "everybody gets a medal" mentality .. please don't go there!). Obviously, the idea is to WIN the tournament, but the 15 participants who DON'T win (in either tournament) will tell you a lifetime of stories about being there, whether a first-round exit or a championship game loss.

I guess it's how you look at it. You see 11 spots (actually 13) filled by four different teams, I see 7 spots filled by seven different schools, including 3 All-A State Champions (Holy Cross, Glasgow, Walton-Verona). Try to tell those schools it's not a special tournament/event. Girls athletics is a little different than boys, in that a few consecutive dominant classes can establish quite a run (NCC comes to mind). And as stated previously, many of the schools who succeed regularly in the All A make that tournament a priority. It's not an accident they are successful in that tournament. No doubt the event has expanded beyond it's initial implementation ... change and evolution can be good. However, I personally witnessed two, truly small schools in the 10th this year (Augusta on the boys side, Bracken Co on the girls side) experience a All A Regional championship, and those kids will tell stories for years to come about that journey. Did both have a chance to win the end-of-season regional? Sure, but it would have been exceptional .. movie worthy. In the 10th, when you're regularly competing against the Masons/Campbells/Montgomerys/Clarks/Harrisons/Scotts, it's extremely difficult to get to Rupp/Diddle.

Jeff Paulin, keeper, Bishop Brossart High School, signed a letter of intent yesterday to play for Thomas More College, DIII. I have no details other than that.

Here's an interesting observation: the only people gnashing their teeth over the All A, are those who don't participate. In the last 2+ years of this constant drivel, I've yet to hear someone from Dayton/SilverGrove/Calvary/Latin/Villa/NameYourSchoolThatDoesn'tHaveAChanceToWin complain that the tournament is "not fair". It's comical. As one wise sage once said, "there's golf to played and tennis to be served". LET...IT...GO.

I only saw the Lady Bears play one game this season, and that was the All A Regional Final. It was a team effort, and Cummins is the real deal, but Kinley Ruf won that game for the Bears.

Totally agree. I'm sure the coaching staff at CovCath will not allow the team to look past the Camels, despite the general consensus of fans (I heard several fans leaving BOKC last night saying "who do we play after Campbell Co?"). Campbell will be a very difficult hurdle. That said, if the Colonels get by Campbell, a deep run could be in store. Confidence and experience are two understated qualities.

That is ridiculously nice! At first blush, I'm surprised there isn't recognition on the walls of the multitude of State Championships, similar to what UK did in the Craft Center: Perhaps it was a concession to the community that this was not a football-only facility, but imagine how cool that would look.

I've said it over and over .. killing time to get the last shot, especially with young players, is the dumbest move. The number of ill-advised, bad shots that results makes me cringe. Happens .. all .. the .. time. Run your offense, and shoot the first good shot you get. Worry about the other guy getting a last second shot later (because in all likelihood, he's going to take an ill-advised, bad shot).

I witnessed the 37th District Final debacle. If Scott pulls off the upset tonight, it will be the greatest story since Lazurus. justsayin

Maybe the hoops gods thought the call was suspect as well. As they say, "ball don't lie". Tough pill for Mr. Price to swallow. I believe if a FT is short, nerves got the best of you. If you miss long, you just missed it. That last one looked good...just got too much back iron. Keep your head up..."Man in the Arena".

I wasn't at the game, but congratulations to all of you posters .. 60 comments in, and not one about the refs!! Congrats to the Dawgs, and Congrats to the NCC seniors on a fabulous career.

This thread is comical, and further proves why those with thin skin and who wear their feelings on their sleeves are generally advised to stay out of message boards where OPINIONS are stated (like mine ... see what I did there?! :sneaky:). High school fast-pitch softball (and baseball, for that matter), is largely about the quality of pitching. If you have a stud in the circle, you can effectively put 7 folding chairs in the field and be a winning team. Probably why Ms. Smith was listed first. I don't think LB was discounting any player, nor ranking which players will compete collegiately. Best of luck to all teams and their players (especially the seniors). It's over in the blink of the eye.

It's about the name on the front of the jersey. That said, I'd love to see Wilson (healthy) against Henry at some point in the Fieldhouse. Could be epic.

I paid $5 to get in. At halftime, I asked for a rebate. They said I had to PAY $3 to leave early. I'm $8 poorer. Campbell was that good tonight.
