Always disappointing to see how few soccer scholarships are out there for boys. Can not compete with football and Title IX so a lot of big schools do not even offer a soccer team. Even the SEC does not sponsor Men's soccer. I think they should just do away with Men's college soccer at Division 1 and expand the PDL for these kids.

Austin Langen from St. Henry has committed to play at Franklin College (IN)

Any word on Zane Ross?

Pretty sure he has been committed to Radford for some time now.

Jeff Paulin, keeper, Bishop Brossart High School, signed a letter of intent yesterday to play for Thomas More College, DIII.

I have no details other than that.

Additionally, there are large number of foreign students in comparison to female students. Combine that with the above and its why there is such difference between the number of male and female futballers signing. Also, this is about the only country where the universities sponsor sports. In Europe, futbal along with other sports is club only where they will associate themselves with a local school for youth only. So, many oversees players come here to get a good education and play. I've attended a recruiting camp in England a couple years back that had around 13 DI college coaches in attendance. I bring it up as just a couple of weeks ago a parent was asking me why so many girls around the area were playing in college while so few boys were.

Image if European universites all had basketball teams and had scholarships. yes, it's doubtful the ESPN 300 kids would go over there but a kid who may play DIII here could go over there on a full or partial ride and play at a top university. It's basically the same situation in reverse. The top players over there play for cllubs there and the less talented (it's subjective I know) or those not intended to play pro will jump at the chance to come over here and play. Pick 5 DI, DII and DII schools each and look at the rosters.

On why we may not see as many young men signing commitment letters:

There are 328 women's D1 soccer programs and only 204 men's D1 soccer programs.

In KY there are 7 women's D1 soccer schools and only 3 men's D1 soccer schools.

I've heard people say that women's soccer in our area (Club) is viewed outside the region as being somewhat stronger than our men's soccer. I have no idea.

NKU/UK/UC/Xavier/UC men's teams average 6 non-US players (full roster 23-29... average of 26)

Those same 5 schools average 10 players from KY and OH combined.

National champs UVa had one non-US player on their roster and one KY player on their roster (Fabrice Shema / Louisville / Waggener)... not bad for a KY kid.

There are about 420,000 boys playing high school soccer in the US. Across all college soccer divisions (NCAA D1, D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA, etc) there are less than 38,000 rosters spots (and that includes those filled with non-US players).

It is largely a numbers game. Congrats to those who are talented enough and put in the hard work to end up on the right side of the numbers!
