The Brossart/Pendery "home field advantage" is the most over-hyped misnomer on the soccer board. As previously stated in another thread, Pendery is regulation size (110x80). Brossart has only played 3 games there all season; they don't even practice there. 2 of the 3 opponents were Boone and St Henry, both whom play on natural surfaces. Zero advantage.

I have an idea...let's wait until the season is over to have this discussion. Justsayin...

About 12th minute, a cross in the box resulted in a point blank shot by BB, that was bobbled by the Cru keeper, and walked in by the Mustang attacker (Rolf). About 4 minutes later, the Cru got the ball all the way to the end line (btw .. Cru are fast up top), then a hard shot across the box ricocheted off a defender for an own goal, and the match was even 1-1. In the 40th minute, a ball was played deep in the Cru box, headed over the bar by the Stangs. Unfortunately for St. Henry, their keeper Johnson was injured on the play (thigh/knee injury .. hard to tell), and he never returned to the match. By all accounts, injured by his own defender (hard to tell; many players in the box, but I heard fans from both teams feel he was hit by a teammate). All square 1-1 at half. About 20 minutes in to the second half, a beautiful header (Geiman) off a free kick gave BB the 2-1 lead. A short while later, a similar play resulted in another header (Rolf), and it looked like the match was over. With approximately 5 minutes remaining, the Cru dented the net to get within 1 (I missed who scored), and the match was back on. As the Cru battled to get the equalizer, pressing forward, the Mustangs (Geiman) got behind the defense and beat the keeper in a 1v1, for the 4-2 final. Were there breakdowns on defense? Probably, but I give the Cru the benefit of the doubt. Norris was missing for a substantial part of the game with an injury, and they were without the services of their keeper the entire second half. Schafefer filled in admirably, but wasn't able to withstand the second half attack. The Cru had their chances ... either just wide, right at the keeper, or nice saves by the keeper. Hildreth had a nice game between the pipes for BB, back from missing several games with an injury. As mentioned, the Cru are fast up top. However, BB is big, strong and fast up top, and were able to get the finishes that St. Henry couldn't. Very even teams .. could have gone either way. Best of luck to BB at Frankfort and in the 10th, and best of luck to the Cru in the 9th. I hope Johnson and Norris are ok. Pitch was not a factor; sun was equally in each keeper's eyes for a half (each gave up 1 goal in the sun; other 4 goals were at other end).

I thought you were referring to playing surface/conditions. In that case, they are virtually the same. I believe the game is at Pendery. As to the condition of Pendery, it's what you'd expect .. some spots are not great, but I've seen it a lot worse.

Where was the game played? If the game was at Ryle (turf), what if anything, did either team learn, considering the District will be played on a natural surface (assuming the District is at Cooper/Boone/Conner)? What is the status of Cooper's regular #1 keeper? I know he missed some early season contests due to concussion. Is he back? If not, what is the status? THANKS! Great game report.

Day is a great player..no question. But all we've heard about is how deep CCH is. So if they lose, it's because Day wasn't there? Doesn't hold water with me. MoCo is really good, but I expect no worse than a draw for the Colonels, with or without Day.

Interesting..some previous game reports have indicated the Colonels have had some serious breakdowns on defense. It sounds like the back four have settled in nicely. Congrats on a nice win!

Several current Mustangs played club ball with Moses, and are well aware of his talents. They have tremendous respect for his skills. I'm sure he will be a focus of their efforts.

Mustang .. PLEASE keep on doing what you do!!! As mentioned, it is greatly appreciated! Futbol is an acquired taste. Keep surrounding yourself with great minds like Braun and Goller, and you'll be up and running in no time. Taking baby steps at first is fine!

Mustang is admittedly a below-level rookie when it comes to the ins and outs of futbol. He makes no bones about his lack of knowledge of the game, but everyone GREATLY appreciates his efforts to extol the efforts of the students and promote BBHS. We LOVE having him at the pitch! To explain your question, the stadium clock ran down from 40:00, so in essence, the first goal was a 19th minute goal, and the one you reference, was a 40th minute goal, 00:20 before half. The Miller goal was assisted by a beautiful through-ball by Rolf .. an outstanding service.

Yes, I saw the same things. Don't agree nor disagree with your assessment of calls/no calls. Invariably, every call is questionable. I was simply affirming your assessment that Brossart was the better team tonight. No more, no less.

You've piqued my interest .. who is the former KHA kid playing for the Columbus Crew DA. A quick Google search came up empty. I love to hear success stories, and I love watching Yaya.

Third goal was off a throw-in from #33 Schultz.

I was surprised how easily the first two goals occurred. The first goal was inexcusable; the second was simply a breakaway that left the keeper on an island. Often, in futbol, if you get down that early, it's 'katy bar the door'. A key play happened mid-first half. Off of a Cooper free kick 35-yards out, BBHS keeper committed to a ball that he could not get to in the crowd, leaving the goal exposed. Snow had a wonderful header attempt just go wide. If Jags score there, possibly a different game. On a different note, the field was in good shape. I know it's early, and things will rapidly deteriorate after the first heavy rain. However, what struck me as odd was the size ... extremely small. End lines were mid football endzone (making it a 110 yard pitch), and touch line was only 3 feet wide of the football sideline. I could see the covered drains between the touchline and the track preventing the option of widening the pitch to a more acceptable width, but the narrow pitch was very noticeable. The third Brossart goal occurred on a simple throw-in that made it to the middle of the field for a header. Best of luck to both teams moving forward.
