Nothing for Region 9.......anyone know who hosts it this year?

With the field requirements and the fact that Ryle hosted two years ago and highlands last year I'm going to guess St Henry. Not sure there any other fields that fill the requirements for size and lights.

Dixie is host this year. Was told there is a three year rotation in place with Ryle, Highlands and Dixie for the next six more years.

If there is such an agreement then why doesn't the 9th region have an approved plan out on the KHSAA website?

I hope this is correct. Given the typical weather in NKY in mid to late October, IMO only makes sense to play ALL post season games on turf fields. And nothing wrong with rewarding the schools that have found a way to finance the development of their fields. For the schools that have not done so, get it done.

Don't buy into the argument "everyone should have a turn". This is similar to the "everyone should receive a trophy" argument, no you shouldn't. Way to much is "given" today, what ever happened to having to "earn" it?

I think the regional tournament should be held at NKU due to the fact it is the same size as the fields that will be played on for state finals. Don't get me wrong the for mentioned stadiums are very nice but are a little smaller than regulation

I believe that once teams get to the state tournament, all of the matches are scheduled to be played on turf. Because of this, I think it is beneficial for teams to play on turf leading up to this round.

Problem would be getting a school to pay for them and colleges are still having games then.

So, if other sports can hold Regionals at these sites, why couldn't they work something out for soccer?

I agree. Home field advantage should not be "given" to Ryle, Highlands, and Dixie. They should earn it by play on the field. If it is not earned by play on the field, then it should be by rotation that does not give any school more opportunity for home field advantage than the others.

 

Maybe what could be worked out is to have the contests on turf fields at a location where neither team is the home team. It would mean that location for a particular contest is not known until both opponents have been determined from a qualifying round. Surely that could be done. Three turf fields that meet regulations have already been named.

 

BTW, didn't we hash this out last year? If so, this is hash, rehash, and succotash.

I don't buy into the "home field advantage" for local HS soccer matches. This is not the Champions League, EPL, NFL etc where the visiting team must travel long distances, many times across multiple time zones, and the stadium is filled with 90% local supporters. Not even talking HS BB where the home team does have an advantage by practicing in the gym, being used to the lighting, the backdrop behind the baskets, etc. We're talking a local HS soccer tournament where for the local districts and Region 9 teams may have to travel 20-30 minutes tops, and in some cases some players and their families actually live closer to the away venue then they live to their home venue. And the away team has the exact same opportunity (no extra time or cost) to have the same amount of supporters at the game.

 

I do support all 9th Region games be played at NKU or TMC. It works terrific for the 9th Region girls and boys BB tournament, held at NKU, during NKU's BB season by the way.

The round of 16 is played at one of the teams home field. It's all about the money. I believe BB hosted a round of 16 at NKU anf if you read any of the basketball threads about playing at NKU it's not always a win for the schools. Playing at school you can feel the energy and makes for much better atmosphere. Plus no guarantees the host team makes the final and then the attendance usually drops off signifcantly.

I've been the to the last 3-4 Region 9 boys BB finals at NKU, very large crowds.

Doesn't matters who the host team is or if the host team makes the finals, the final attracts a large crowd. Some of the schools have complained about the tournament being held at NKU, most complaints I've read come from the loosing teams, are they making excuses? Some fans complain about the parking, traffic, legit complaints, not a perfect world.

The home field advantage that happens doesn't have to do with the crowd but the difference in fields. Take St. Henry for example, they play on grass all year for home games, wouldn't it behoove them to host on grass?

I just think that playing on a field like NKU would prepare nky region champs a little better for state.
