From people I have talked to over the past few years, NKU and Thomas More don't want the games because it interferes with there soccer teams, and unlike the basketball tournament their is no money to be made off hosting the soccer tournament so they are unwilling to adjust their soccer programs schedule

 

You complain about Ryle, Highlands, and Dixie always getting to host, but if you read the KHSAA policy and requirements on host schools they are 3 of the 4 schools who can host. All the other schools are unable to host due to various reason. St Henry is eligible to host, but is only in the rotation for girls regions. My best guess is do to the smaller seating capacity. From a coach I know in Lexington, the Khsaa will be adding to the requirements for hosting including making the field requirements wider, which may even limited the pool of candidates to host smaller. Right now Ryle field is the closest we have in Northen Kentucky to some of the Lexington fields. they are smaller in width to Dunbar, but almost equal in size to Henry Clay and Lafayette

I believe once you to get final 8 of higher yes should be played on neutral field, but up to the round home field doesn't necessarily change anything. In a perfect world go with neutral, but as we know this isn't an area of concern for khsaa

Games can't be played at Thomas Moore they don't have lights.

If there are no fields that meet the requirements than what will they do? I'm sure there are a few regions that this could happen if they make it wider.

Ever play at Pendery Park? 'nuff said.

Boone is equally bad as is cooper. Just saying.

Pendery is smaller. Cooper's surface is worse than Pendry, but any grass field is going to get slickery when wet. Locations that play football on the same field will get progressively bad as the season wears on, and yes, Boone and Cooper's playing surface will be worse than Pendery.

 

However, the condition of the field is not my point. The fact that a home field advantage exists in H.S. soccer is my point. I used Pendery as an example of this.

 

It is my opinion that Bishop Brossart receives a definite advantage from playing at Pendery PArk. One factor is the size of the field. It is my judgment that it is smaller than other fields in NKY. I judge this by how far beyond the midfield line the goalie's punts go. They land much closer to the opponents goal than they do at Boone and most other fields we play on. Brossart is used to playing on this field and they know how to use it to their advantage. There is no intimation that Brossart is doing something underhanded here. Just an acknowledgement that familiarity with a field and being comfortable playing there is home field advantage. This happens for every team playing at home. It has nothing to do with the size of the cheering section. It has everything to do with familiarity with the field--its dimension, surface, slope, where the bad spots are, etc. and the comfort level of the players there.

 

Pendery is the most unique setting among the pitches in NKY and so I think it provides a definite home field advantage.

The Brossart/Pendery "home field advantage" is the most over-hyped misnomer on the soccer board.

 

As previously stated in another thread, Pendery is regulation size (110x80). Brossart has only played 3 games there all season; they don't even practice there. 2 of the 3 opponents were Boone and St Henry, both whom play on natural surfaces. Zero advantage.

^ I beg to differ. I've been going down there for 10 years. Size of the field is only one factor. Familiarity is the most important one. advantage Brossart.

I understand what your saying but in brossarts case that's not true it isn't the same field every year.

This years field is not in the same spot as last year or even the year before it get switched from side to side and occasionally rotated. Unlike a regular football / soccer field where if there are bumps or holes they will be there for years. Plus pendry is the community park that probably see's just as much use as a high school field does .

Why can't Town and Country be used? Yes, I know they have soccer going on too but if it is scheduled in advance. There is also College of Mt. St. Joe, that is a nice field too.

I like MSJ but would not be in favor of playing a KY Regional in another state.

Not sure they are going to go wider on the requirement considering when they put in the requirement last year it was 65 yards wide and they changed it to 60 this year.

In any case... whether a college or another facility not owned by a high school you have to pay to rent it out. Rental for 3-4 days is a nice chunk of change that eats into the profit for hosting.

This year was a different field. At least the previous 2 years it was the same field. So Brossart gains no advantage from playing on a field they use more than any other team in NKY? I can see we won't come to an agreement on this. :banghead:

Town & Country probably would cost a chunk of change to move leagues and practices. That and you can't see at night due to half the lights being gone.
