Bishop Brossart 26 Aiken (OH) 22

No details, saw it on facebook.

Aiken was very athletic, probably the fastest team Brossart will see all year. Mustangs did a great job of gang tackling and stepping up to make plays at crunch time. I thought they showed a lot of composure. Moore had a fantastic catch at the end to put them into position to nail down the win. Nice win!

Congratulations to Brossart.

The Brossart Mustangs improve to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2011 with a bullet dodging victory over the homestanding Aiken Falcons at Stargel Field in the west end of downtown Cincinnati.

Brossart opened a 13-0 lead early on a pair of Frank Cetrulo touchdowns, the first a 15 yard connection from Craig Pfefferman, and the second in the second quarter on a 3 yard touchdown completion culminating a 66 yard drive.

However, the Falcons scored 14 unanswered of their own, all in the final three minutes of the half, giving them a 14-13 lead at intermission.

Neither team could dent the scoring column again until only 52 seconds remained in the third period, when Logan Schoulthies plunged one yard to cap off a 66 yard drive and give the Stangs a tenuous 19-14 lead.

The Mustangs withstood a goal line assault at the 4 minute mark of the fourth quarter, but failed to clear the football in their offensive set, setting up a 40 yard punt return by Aiken for a go-ahead touchdown, putting them up 22-20.

Brossart responded with a major 46 yard pass completion to T.J. Moore setting up our final score, a 2yard Schoulthies run, giving the Stangs a 26-22 lead with 1:14 to go and Aiken out of time-outs.

The Falcons took possession at the Brossart 46 and then marched it right down the field setting up 1st and Goal under a minute. Three times the Mustangs defense held, with a Falcon TD called back for illegal procedeure. It all came down to the final play of the game from the 5 yard line. The pitch went right, with the ballcarrier turning the corner, but being stuffed at the two yard line as the game ended.

We'll take it and prepare for 2-0 Bellevue next Friday.

Good luck against Bellevue; should be a good game.

Should be interesting and another major challenge. We have never defeated the Black and Gold Tigers, and the game is being played at Bellevue. With that being said, both teams are 2-0 and we both defeated Dayton by comparable scores.

Bellevue Head Coach Woody McMillen is no stranger to the Brossart Mustangs, having founded and coached the first few years of Walton-Verona football. The Bearcats first ever varsity win came at the expense of the Mustangs in 2008, but the Mustangs did return the favor the following year in Walton in Jeff Barth's first year as head coach.

Highlight package of Aiken v. Bishop Brossart.

^^^Thanks, allows me to revisit what I thought I saw Friday night.

Facilities look awesome!

Very cool that CPS allows Aiken (and others?) to play at Taft HS.

Really a nice facility located in a tough part of town. Completely fenced in and well maintained. The pressbox and locker rooms were spotless and the windows were relatively clean.

Taft, Hughes, Walnut Hills, and Aiken (and perhps others) share the facility.
