Stepover
I saw this thread on the girls side so I thought we could give it a try. Last year graduated some of the best soccer players NKY has ever seen IMO. Who are the players to watch out for this year.

Sir!
Just nitpicking...but Bryce Day is CCH not H Yup... someone absconded with the "CC" I typed before the "H"... but it's OK... I think everyone in NKY knows who Bryce plays for. I can't edit it any longer, but if it's terribly annoying maybe an admin can fix it?

I'd have to see some of these guys play a bit more to say one way or another. Ben Darpel, defender from CCH, should be on this list. I'd be hesitant to put positions on the other two from CCH as they may not play where you have them listed this year. I believe Darpel is the best pure defender in N. Ky. this year. Muck played pretty well last night as did Seay from Scott. I also think Cam Hoover from NCC is one of better defenders in the area.

As for positions, I'm sure you are right. It's customary in HS soccer to move players out of the position they are most suited naturally, to play them where the coach (or player in some instances) thinks they'll have the most "impact" - often moving midfielders up top and defenders into the midfield or up top. I'd prefer to see kids playing their natural positions and being given options that get them into offense on set pieces or in the run of play when there's opportunity. I'm not identifying any particular team here (honestly) but we frequently see teams who have "best defender in NKY" on their team and yet play them elsewhere so they can have more impact. Maybe right, maybe wrong. I'd just rather see them playing where they are "best" unless the team has no suitable options where they are being moved. groinpull
I would agree, players are sometimes put in positions to help the team vs their natural position. I really don't know but given the emergence on CCH of some good defenders, I would think Day/Wessels will be in the central midfield w/ Day as the offensive center and Wessels as the holding/defensive mid but it's possible one of them is given a look up top as well. Those midfield spots are really their natural positions on the field. I can also see CCH going w/ the 5 midfielder look similar to what Scott did last night given the wealth of talent and speed they have in that position. There is no true striker on CCH to be honest. I'm not sure there is one of a high level in N. Ky this year.

As a freshman be finished with around 27 goals. Give him a ball anywhere near the 18 and he can finish. He's got a heck of a shot and can body almost anyone off the ball. Not to mention, he has great pace as well. He's got two center mids to feed him the ball (Leffler and Martin) who are both talented, but the rest of the team struggles. Nkysoccer
I'm not sure why there's been so much talk about Walton on here as they're a pretty small school in this area. However I did watch them at soccerama and it appeared they had some talent from a few of their players in the midfield and attack (not sure on the names). Their defense struggled against Holy cross and they relied heavily on their keeper. They can be a threat in the future if they can fix their defense, but still won't be able to challenge the big schools like cov cath.

I would love to have more posters from WV, Cov Latin, Villa Madonna, etc! Talk them up! And welcome to BGP, @Nkysoccer!

Oldtimebaseball84
...but against who? Just throwing out numbers has always been my pet peave.....you must always look at the opponent levels if you are using numbers to compare......
Yellow Card
Further to OTB's point, I believe there is a boy at Carroll Co that has netted close to 70 goals the past 2 seasons, just going by the numbers would probably garner him a spot on the All-State team. Zakpotat
Very true. I was just trying to make the point that if you put him on a team that is playing big time schools and give him players that can work as a team he could be a first team all state player.
